The Wayzata City Council approved a contract with MGT Impact Solutions LLC for executive recruitment services to find a permanent city manager during their Oct. 7 meeting. The council authorized Mayor and Interim City Manager Aurora Joerger to execute a professional services agreement with the firm for $26,500.

The recruitment process will take approximately 90 to 120 days and includes position assessment, candidate evaluation, and interview coordination. Council Member Jeff Sorenson and Mayor worked with staff since July to evaluate five firms, narrowing the field to three finalists before four council members interviewed the candidates in September.

Council Member Dan Pleish voted against the proposal, citing loyalty to internal candidates and budget concerns. "We have a very well-oiled machine here in the city," Pleish said, adding that staff has provided exemplary service. However, the majority supported the external search process.

The meeting also featured the swearing-in of new council member Dan Cook, who returned to office after a five-year break, and three new firefighters: James Botham, Mickey Leas, and Cooper Rasmus. Fire Chief Kevin Clafrick noted the department now has 27 of its authorized 30 firefighters.

The council recognized Youngsteads automotive service for exceptional customer service and acknowledged outgoing Interim City Manager Mike Kelly's service during the three-month transition period. Kelly, a 36-year city employee, will return to his previous role as the permanent city manager search proceeds.
