The Wayzata City Council awarded contracts for a comprehensive Clappage Park improvement project that will close the park to the public for most of the construction period from June through fall, according to city updates released in May.

Construction will commence in early June following the council's May 6 contract approval. The project includes a complete park reconstruction with a new playground relocated from the hillside to the base of the hill, accessibility improvements, enhanced sidewalks and a walking loop around the park. The warming house will be expanded, and improvements to grading and drainage are designed to extend ice skating season duration.

The city has prioritized community engagement through multiple recent meetings, including four sessions in the past month. Two meetings focused on a potential food and beverage sales tax, with separate sessions for businesses and residents. City leadership also held the first neighborhood meeting in the downtown central core, drawing approximately 50 attendees, with the next session planned for fall in the Margaret Circle neighborhood.

Safety concerns on County Road 101 were addressed in a collaborative meeting with residents from Hollybrook, Pondridge, Waycliffe, Harmony Circle and Shady Way neighborhoods. The session included partnership with Plymouth, Three Rivers Parks District, Minnesota DOT and Hennepin County. County officials will provide updates on safety measures in the coming weeks.

The city is conducting dock bumper trials through June after last year's bumpers failed to function properly. Memorial Day events will be held at Heritage Park in partnership with the American Legion, while Arbor Day celebrations are scheduled for May 31 at Depot Park, featuring educational programming and tree planting by Arbor Hill Tree Farm.
