Uh, that was kind of the first, uh, swing at kind of the I don't know why I'm calling it state of the district. Maybe we could workshop a better way to describe it. Um, but in addition to talking about um the budget forecast and kind of some long-term plans, I was able to talk to them about talking points relating to the um to the constitutional amendment that'll be on the ballot. Um, our next appointment with that, we'll talk more about that um on the a little farther down on the agenda, but our next appointment is tomorrow at noon. Lisa and Alicia are coming with me to talk to the Chamber of Commerce. Um, we had a great new staff orientation last week. Um about 20 people are joining our ranks and um they seem fired up and really excited. It was fun for my side to not be one of those people in there that was both leading it, planning it and doing [clears throat] it at the same time. >> Um and so uh really some great people. Um we're excited to have them engage with our um with our folks. We do have a couple of uh positions out there that we're advertising for and interviewing. So, um, it is our goal, of course, to be fully stocked with people to take care of the kids by the first day of school. So, um, I think those are the highlights I wanted to point out. >> Perfect. So, as with every year, July is really kind of a kind of a almost a boring month when it comes to the financials. Um, not a lot came in this this uh month from the state, which is normal. Um, and just looking at the expenditures, just making sure that nothing really large is standing out as far as coming through that we weren't expecting. Um, when you look at uh like the educational support, that one is where our supplies and uh materials come in, that's always a very front-loaded category. So, that one we expect to be a little bit tired this time of year. Got to get the stuff ready. So, when the kids walk in the door, the teachers have what they need to get them going. Um, the main expense in uh July was we had debt service. We had to pay. So, that's pretty much it. Then just so you guys know, I didn't make any graphs for July because seemed kind of silly to make a graph for one. >> I like graphs. Disappointed. That's cute. John, >> any questions for John? So, um the way we I I feel like we left it last time was just um you know, uh I shared some you asked me to share some additional details information that the uh the representatives from Homestead County Health had shared with Alicia and I. Um I did share that out for you all to consider and look through and then um so we're just bringing this back to the agenda to see um what if any steps you'd like to take further. So I don't know I'm looking at Alicia if you wanted to add something. I don't know. >> Yeah, I I think I made it clear how I feel. I think it would be great if we could send this letter to our county commissioners and maybe eventually our city council. But um obviously I'm interested in hearing how you all are feeling about it. I was wondering does Dodge County have this have the vaping the ban at all on flavor. >> I have not heard about anything happening in Dodge County. >> Okay. I can find out Thursday, but that >> I did talk to some young [clears throat] people about this just over the weekend. Makes me sound ancient, but [laughter] >> like, you know, like early 20s. Yeah. >> And they said, "Oh, yeah. That's a that's a no-brainer to get rid of flavored vapes." >> And they said, "People can go over to Kassen and go to Dodge County." That's what I was asking about Dodge County. >> But they said, "Yeah, they're absolutely 100% geared towards young kids." >> They said, "The marketing, the packaging, you know, all the flavors. That's for kids. That's not for adults." And then they told me about a whole bunch of other stuff that's out there too, like light up ones like that have lights around them, >> stickers on them. >> It seemed to make us older individuals like motion sick because >> Right. Right. Yeah. Right. >> According to there is no vaping flavored vaping man in Dodge County. if this is accurate. >> I think one of the other parts to highlight is there's not necessarily like a um like a due date for you to take action. Um I can't I can't recall if I saw when the when it was going to be on the county commissioner's agenda or when the whole >> I think they've already discussed it. I don't I haven't been keeping close tabs on where they're at. Um, and the letter, this isn't, we don't have to use this letter either. I just made a really rough draft just to give you all an idea of what I was thinking, but it could be amended, too. I guess my question would be, does anyone have questions about the letter in and of itself? like is there anything that stands out that you would like to see different or doesn't fit or >> I do have a question but that's about the purpose. The letter looks great and that's not not a good question at all in my opinion but so what's the goal like should we try to >> people can go to Rochester people like so it's it's more of locally we prohibit >> Yeah. Okay. >> The goal would be for a county and Mstead Countywide ban. So, we'd be asking the county commissioners to ban flavored baby products in all of Mstead County. >> And Rochester is also trying to accomplish something like this. And there's been a campaign around that for some time now. >> Yes. So, I don't know if there's um You mean with Rochester City Council? >> Yes. Yeah, >> probably. Probably. The organizations that approached us um are probably working widely in the Rochester area. >> Okay. Um and this hits both um quite a few senior citizen groups um like the Lions Club um and then there's a couple of church council groups and most of most of the people that are on those also go to this lunch. It's a pretty big affair. >> Anyway, that one is taking place on October 21st which is a Wednesday at noon. So, if um if one [snorts] or more of you, but less than four of you would want to come along, um that'd be awesome. Uh >> it's at the community ed center. >> And one nice ancillary benefit is they do feed you lunch, too. So anyway, um so we we don't have to decide today who's available, but if um if you would be available for any of these things that I mentioned, just you can just email me directly and then I'll just say the first, you know, three of you if there's if it's really popular to go to one or the other, but um we'll go from there. >> You share the link to this. >> Yes. And then if you will remember from last year, the one that required a little bit of planning on our part was the Calmar Township one because that happens basically at the same time is this meeting uh the third Monday of the month. Um and so um obviously we start at 6 and so depending on the agenda items and the flow of it, there's a chance I could get there. Um but um I'd love I'd love to have a presence at their township meeting. Um and so that would that would undoubtedly mean that one of you would or two of you would scoot out of here at, you know, 6:30, 6:45 to be able to make it to the township hall in time. >> And you're thinking October for that one, too. >> That could be October. Um September, I mean, there's a whole another month until then, so September would also work as well. Um it's been part of that schedule C which includes also the stipens for coaches and whatnot. And then as uh Mr. Rollinsson has been trying to develop more efficient systems and um more responsive systems as well. He um he and I started talking to the union about um about the wisdom of having these event these event stipens and pays in the teacher master agreement. And the big reason um that we talked through and that the union ended up agreeing with um about taking it out is that in the event that we had to change those um we wouldn't have to wait for we we don't want to potentially have to wait for the next negotiating cycle to change the contract that we could um we could just manage that ourselves as the district. It's really important for me that you know that the any rate changes the school board, you all would still need to approve them before they effect. So, this isn't just Nate and Chad would decide to start charge or paying out less or paying out more. Um, but that those plans would be carefully constructed, managed, and a recommendation would be given to you to approve before those would take effect. Um I do know um Chad is sensitive to one or two of these event worker things and that is that we've it appears we've fallen pretty far behind. Um I think it was the >> track starter >> track starter. Thank you. Was the track starter position that we've fallen very far behind the rest and it it makes it that is a very specialized position. It's very hard to find people that know how to do that and track meets have millions of people that show up to them and you need the starter to make it go. So anyway, that was that was just one example highlighting kind of what I what I'm talking about here. So um we did work with the union to just agree that this would in its entirety would be removed from the contract for this for the period of thisou and then um we anticipate talking through some a more permanent arrangement when it comes time to negotiate the the master agreement again. So the projected demand for water will double by about 2045. So uh Byron will need a third well in 5 to 10 years. Um and so they're doing I don't know if anybody is aware but right now they're you're watering on the odd and even days. you know, if your if your uh house number is even, then you water on the even days. The repairs are complete and expected to extend the life of the pool for seven to 10 more years starting next year. >> So it looks nice, but it's it's fully um filled, but they it's just to cure it to cure the cement and everything. So it can't be used yet this year. Uh, city council voted to strengthen the current city ordinance concerning ebike safety and the full ordinance is on the city website. The new pickle ball courts are being used and there's sand volleyball down at the red park or valley view. And then the soccer fields are now called North Valley Recreational Park. >> So people are going to say, "Where's that?" And then you say, "Scc fields." >> Right. Right. So, um the for August 25th, that's the first day that we'll have staff back. Um we'll all be up at the um the auditorium. I was about to call it the pack. Some people call it the pack. Some people call it the auditorium. Whatever. Um and I believe my staff welcome starts at 8:00. Ann doesn't know, neither do I. But yeah, it's like 8 8:30. Um I think it's 8. >> Okay. Um anyway, it'll be uh pretty quick and to the point, but um [clears throat] if any of you are able to make it, you'd be surprised how much it means to the staff to see you there on days like that. So, it doesn't have to be long. You don't have to stick around all day unless you really really want to. Um but just being there when they come in and thanking them for and you know, wishing them a great school year and welcome them back. Um they the staff will would talk about and appreciate that. So, Anyway, and then I also added the um the back to school night for the high school and the middle school because I know a couple of you have kids in that age. Um and so but again that those are good opportunities not only to walk the halls with your kids but also to to welcome the staff back and thank them for thank you for their work. And then on the 27th we have um that same sort of thing but that's it's the elementary school's turn the party of playground. Um, so anyway, I um, like I said, I just wanted to put those on there so that you could be there um, in your schoolboard capacity. You obviously can be there as parents, but >> Great. >> Thank you.
