The event aims for broad inclusivity under the theme 'one nation, many stories,' celebrating America's 250th birthday by honoring veterans and first responders. America 250 Family-Friendly Bike Ride and We Bike Rochester's Role
Mayor Norton announced the America 250 family-friendly bike decorating event and parade scheduled for Saturday, June 27th, at 10:30 AM, starting at the Edison building. This initiative is sponsored by the Mayor's office, Bike MN, and We Bike Rochester. Aaron Meade, We Bike Rochester's Board Chair, elaborated on their organization's mission to advocate for safe and fun human-scale transportation, including walking, biking, and rolling. The discussion highlighted safety recommendations for participants, such as bringing water and helmets (with some available for children), and encouraged utilizing Rochester's extensive bike trail system to access Soldiers Field Park. The broader theme of building a safe and fun community for all ages was emphasized.

Um we are going to talk about something that is a tradition here in Rochester, which is Rochester Fest. Um it's an annual community uh celebration that we do in June each year, and we're going to hear a little bit about that and America's the America 250 family-friendly bike ride, um which is something the mayor's office is offering this year uh at Rochester Fest.
Uh Rochester Fest been around for 43 years, started by a mayor way back 43 years ago. It's uh happened every single year. A lot of tradition, a lot of people come look forward to it every year. Uh this year it is the uh fourth week of June, June 23rd to the 27th.
With the 250th birthday of America, we want to honor the veterans and the first responders.
And then I thought this uh our theme is one nation, many stories. So, Rochester Fest is not just about you and me. It's about all nationalities, all people, all ages, all disabilities, all all that everything. Come on down. We have fun things for for everybody that's going to be there. And let's celebrate our 250th anniversary of America as a Rochester family.
But I you know, this year on Saturday, June 27th, um the mayor's sponsoring with our partners at Bike MN and We Bike uh Rochester uh a a bike decorating event and a bike parade in support of America's 250th.
So, first um [clears throat] We Bike Rochester, you know, we're not just about bikes. Um we really support and advocate for uh safe and fun uh mode of transportation at a human scale, whether you're walking, biking, or rolling.
I think one of the things, you know, getting into, not just the fun but the advocacy side of this, is um some of the people who are most affected by um our streets that are public space being so um owned and taken over by cars, is children. Um and so to have them be able to play and celebrate and be in the streets, I think is a powerful image to how we can make transportation and independence for children um throughout the city.
I say 8 months to 80 years. Let's build a community that's safe and fun for everyone.
