Review and Approval of School Handbooks
Moved by Ms. Cook [8:14] · Seconded by Mr. Welch [8:14]
The principals collaborated to update the handbooks for Bonner Bear, Kate Miller School, and High School, ensuring consistency and incorporating new information like Chromebook details. Updates also clarified 'Tiger score' and eligibility for activities and athletics. The preschool and Tiger Time Tiger Tots handbooks are being redesigned to bridge the two programs and will be presented for approval at a later July or August meeting.
Food Service Vendor Contract Approval
Moved by Mr. Lauman [10:04] · Seconded by Mr. Buck [10:04]
A committee reviewed bids from Done Right Foods, Taher, and Lunchtime Solutions after an RFP process. Bids were evaluated on price (35 points for lowest) and non-price criteria (plans, menu, support, nutrition, training, experience, references, staff). Taher scored highest with 95 points compared to Done Right Foods (87) and Lunchtime Solutions (89). The Minnesota Department of Education approved the request to award the bid to Taher. The district's food service fund balance is healthy despite a potential price increase.
Clear Lake Public School Language Parent Access Plan Approval
Moved by Ms. Keefer [10:43] · Seconded by Mr. Wells [10:43]
This plan is a new requirement from state legislation, needing to be in place by July 1st. Clear Lake staff, particularly Claire, developed the majority of the plan to ensure compliance with the new statute. Once approved, the district will communicate the access plan to its families and the wider community.
ZED Long-Term Facility Maintenance Plan and Lease Levy Approval
Moved by Mr. Welch [15:58] · Seconded by Ms. Cook [16:03]
ZED, unable to levy property taxes for maintenance like school districts, proposed a lease levy to establish an LTM fund for its building. The annual contribution from each district is based on a formula considering utilization (number of students sent to ZED), resident enrollment, and overall enrollment. Stewartville's contribution would be $7,400 per year, helping ZED accumulate a $36,000 balance across all districts to manage repairs and facility maintenance proactively, avoiding the need for frequent individual district approvals.
Notable Quotes (10)
So this was completed by the principals in consultation with each other. Um you'll see very similar kinds of things across all the handbooks for um Bonner Bear, Kate Miller School, and High School.
What they're doing right now is Kenzie Zogg and um Nasha Baldis are working on those handbooks. Um in the past Tiger Time Tiger Tots and preschool necessarily weren't bridged in their handbook, and what they're looking to do now is to bridge them because we have such a tremendous amount of crossover between the two programs, between Tots and preschool.
Done Right Foods did have the lowest bid in regard to the price. Then we considered all of the non-price criteria.
We submitted all of the data and the review to Minnesota Department of Egg Food Ser- Food and Nutrition Services, and they did approve our request to have Taher get the bid based on the criteria that we had used to evaluate.
I think we were under a million, but our food service, as you're well aware, we have a fund balance that's really, really healthy. And the participation is so strong, so we didn't have any concerns about their proposal.
So, this is new legislation that's required. We have to have it in place by July 1st. It was during this legislative session that they passed the statute.
Um we will, once you have this approved tonight, we will be in compliance with the statute and we will make sure that we communicate what our access plan access plan is to our families and our community.
Part of it is utilization, which means the number of children that we send to ZED. Part of it is the our resident enrollment. And the last part of it is our overall enrollment, which includes open enrollment.
The alternative to this would be that when maintenance issues arise, they would have to come to the districts every single time.
They they'd have to get eight people or whatever voting yes and for everything they do.
