American Indian Education Transmittal Resolution of Committee Roster

Motion Carries (Unanimous)

Moved by Director Johnson [01:07:00] · Seconded by Director Chu [01:07:05]

The American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (APAC) presented a resolution of concurrence, acknowledging district progress but also offering key recommendations. These included increased professional development for all staff on American Indian education, a request for an additional 1.0 FTE liaison position to adequately serve 11 buildings, concrete plans for staff coverage during leaves (citing a recent lack of a substitute during maternity leave), and improved collaboration between building staff and American Indian Ed staff, especially for sensitive student meetings like IEPs or disciplinary actions. Speakers underscored the importance of cultural connection, representation, and advocacy for Native American students.

Notable Quotes (3)

To improve the outcomes for our children and make greater strides toward meeting our District's aiaa goals we make the following recommendations first we think that increased professional development for all staff around American Indian education can help move the district in the right direction.

Staffing is still a concern for APAC we believe that one coordinator and one liaison is not sufficient Staffing for an American Indian Ed program that spans 11 buildings.

Being able to connect with those other students even for that half hour once or twice a month is really important I know to my children and me as a parent so not having a sub was is really disappointing and I'm not sure the process it takes but I would love if we could figure out how that could be an option so our students are not missing programming the rest of the school year because it's only the end of middle of February.
