Superintendent Lennox presented the district's eight-goal operational plan, which the board approved without dissent. Three goals received priority status: expanding career pathway opportunities for high school students, developing a comprehensive district plan for outdoor learning classrooms and activities, and supporting the district's capital projects technology levy campaign. The plan also includes expanding the student information system, strengthening employee onboarding, completing contract negotiations, conducting an updated enrollment and facility study, and completing a district-wide energy audit. The board confirmed these goals had been extensively discussed at a recent retreat.

The district is preparing to welcome students on September 2nd after completing extensive summer improvements across all schools. Current enrollment stands at 11,445 students—317 more than the January projection of 11,128—driven largely by over 155 open enrollment applications. Most schools are running above projections, with Snail Lake reporting approximately 80 students over projection and Mounds View High School reporting about 50 students over. Only Valentine Hills is projected to start below capacity. Darren Johnson, Executive Director of School Management, clarified that being over projection helps inform staffing and finance decisions rather than indicating overcrowding.

Summer improvements included parking lot overlays, new flooring, painting, library remodels, geothermal installations, and LED lighting upgrades across the district. The district also reported strong summer programming, with over 550 elementary and 202 high school students attending summer school, and 4,636 enrollments in community education programs including enrichment, sports, and music classes. Fifty-seven new teachers attended orientation, and existing teachers participated in professional development and curriculum writing, developing new courses like High School Forensics and United Sound.

The board also acknowledged $4,522.25 in gifts to schools and programs, and $25,772.76 in donations to the Ralpher Food Shelf. Board members reminded the community to watch for students walking and taking buses as the school year begins after Labor Day.
