[0:08] >> MBI sits a top of the suburban East [0:10] Conference with an eightgame winning [0:12] streak. I [0:13] >> feel like we haven't really talked too [0:14] much about it. We just want to take it [0:16] game by game, especially like not get [0:20] too high with how we're going because [0:22] it's still so early. [0:25] MVI has been putting in the work since [0:27] last year to build a strong team [0:30] chemistry. [0:31] >> We're scoring in bunches which is [0:33] helping. We've gotten good goalending [0:35] out of Kayla. The girls are playing [0:37] really hard and practices have been [0:39] good. [0:41] I feel like we worked a lot more like [0:43] just on the mental game and building [0:45] like connections between the girls. And [0:47] then our like biggest thing all summer [0:49] and through like last year was passing. [0:51] And I think that's translated a lot. Our [0:54] passing has been a lot better this year. [0:56] >> Another key factor in NBI success though [0:59] >> is captain Sarah Johnson. [1:00] >> Has room tries to dig DEEP PAST ONE [1:02] DEFENDER AND SCORES [1:04] >> who has racked up 18 goals and 13 [1:07] assists in just nine games. She says her [1:09] understanding of the game continues to [1:11] grow. [1:12] >> My hockey IQ is a lot better and I'm [1:14] learning to read the ice and like [1:16] predict the play and like know where to [1:18] move the puck before I get it. And I [1:20] think that really helps with like I do [1:21] get a lot of pressure on me. So, I think [1:23] that really helps me to just know where [1:26] to go before I get the puck. [1:27] >> Johnson also enjoys the freedom of the [1:30] game. [1:30] >> Just being able to be creative and work [1:32] with my teammates and then like the [1:34] satisfaction of scoring and everything [1:36] coming together is what I love most. [1:39] >> Coach Sammy Miller is impressed with the [1:41] strides she's made in her game. But now [1:43] she's adapted to some of the physical [1:47] pressure she gets from other teams and [1:50] it's been a lot more dominant than I [1:54] even expected. [1:55] >> Mounds Irondale is committed to building [1:57] on this momentum and keep this team's [2:00] energy high throughout the rest of the [2:02] season. take it game by game and you [2:04] know obviously it'd be nice to keep [2:06] getting points and stuff and just but [2:08] overall as a team I I mean keep winning [2:10] and hopefully finish in like a top four [2:13] seed for sections would be ideal.
