I am Rosa Glade [1:05] Arnold, director of orchestras here at [1:08] Irondale and I'm very excited for this [1:12] evening. Extra warm welcome to our new [1:15] ninth graders and their families joining [1:18] our Irondale community orchestra [1:20] community as well. Uh, it's a wonderful [1:23] group to be part of. I'm going to hand [1:27] this over to Abby who's going to share a [1:30] little bit about our music for tonight. [1:36] [applause] [1:44] RC orchestra will begin with Elgato, a [1:46] driving Latin inspired rhythmic work [1:49] with infectious melodies. Next, Allegro [1:53] from Concerto Groso composed by Baroque [1:56] composer George Frederick Handel. It is [1:59] a movement of pure sunshine. [2:01] We will conclude with a city of steel. [2:04] Picture superheroes watching over a dark [2:06] city in this passionate and dramatic [2:08] piece. [2:10] [applause] [2:38] >> [music] [2:43] [music] [2:50] >> Heat. Heat. [20:38] Chakovsky's serenade for strings was [20:40] written in the 1880s and we will be [20:42] playing the fourth movement. The second [20:45] piece, Incantations by American composer [20:47] Richard Meyer, is an energetic and [20:49] rhythmically driving original [20:51] composition that opens with two solo [20:53] violins and a solo viola through a [20:55] haunting lyrical lead. [21:00] [applause] [21:16] Glory. [21:47] >> [music] [21:55] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [22:11] I'm sure [music] [22:26] >> [music] [22:50] [music] [22:56] >> There we are. [music] [23:01] Heat. Heat. She will hang the night stars [36:50] which was inspired by an Oscar poem [36:52] called this. Here is a passage from that [36:55] poem nature. She will hang the night [36:58] stars so that I may walk abroad in the [37:01] darkness without stumbling and send word [37:03] the wind over my footprints so that none [37:06] may track me to my earth. She will [37:08] cleanse me in great waters and with bare [37:10] herbs make me whole. The second piece we [37:13] performed was impressario overture. It [37:15] was written by Mozart at the age of 30 [37:18] which was towards the end of his life. [37:20] Mozart died at the age of 35. Written in [37:23] 1786, it is the overture from his [37:25] comedic and light-hearted one opera. [37:31] [applause] [38:09] >> [music] [38:16] [music] [38:21] >> We are present. Heat. Heat. [50:39] Up. [51:28] Yeah, [51:44] heat. [51:53] Heat. [52:04] Heat. [52:23] Okay. Hi, I'm Andrew. Uh, I'm a viola [52:26] here in chamber and symphony. And [52:30] if you don't know this, so chamber is a [52:32] uh it's an audition non-conducted [52:35] ensemble that meets once a week before [52:37] school. It's before Wednesday. And as [52:38] you can see, we're going to have no [52:40] conductor here. So, it's all led by our [52:42] concert master and by everybody here. [52:44] And so, it's a really nice experience to [52:46] be able to rely on each other and [52:47] everything and to be able to have this [52:49] experience. Now, there was a tradition [52:51] set by a previous senior of telling a [52:53] joke before every chamber performance. [52:54] So, I'm going to continue that and we're [52:57] going to start by uh why was salmon [53:00] always off? [53:01] >> Why? [53:01] >> Why? [53:02] >> Why? [53:02] >> Because you can't tune a fish. [53:07] Tonight [applause] [53:15] is performing the fourth moment of [53:17] Benjamin Britain's simple symphony [53:19] crossing finale finale was composed in [53:22] 1933 based on music Britain composed [53:24] between the ages of 9 and 12 really [53:26] young this playful moment is a nod to [53:28] the innocent days gone by that was [53:30] dedicated to his viola teacher nice guy [53:32] I played viola but hope you enjoy [53:35] >> [applause] [53:38] [cheering] [53:41] [applause] [53:50] >> Thank you. [53:55] [music] [54:00] All [54:21] right. [54:26] >> [snorts] [54:36] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [54:53] [music] [54:58] Heat. [music] [55:05] [music] [55:12] Heat. [55:18] [music] [55:20] Heat. [61:49] Tonight's symphony will begin with Dona, [61:52] the fourth movement uh of the African [61:55] suite which was composed by the British [61:57] composer Cauldridge Taylor for solo [61:59] piano in 1898. It is a festive overture [62:02] to the African spirit and the love of [62:04] the various cultures and countries [62:06] within the continent filled with [62:08] swinging rhythms and repeat melodies. [62:10] Next will be the first movement from [62:12] American and Armenian composer Alan [62:15] Havanas. It is rich with long singing [62:18] melodic melodies that are played by the [62:21] viola section. It is an emotional piece [62:24] that conveys peace and inspiration. [62:28] Lastly, we will be joined by the winds, [62:30] brass and percussion and harpest form, [62:35] a tone formed by a tone poem by Camille [62:39] Sis. So when you have a bit of [73:46] yellow section as we do, it's this is [73:49] the perfect place for it. While I went [73:51] to grass Oh, yes. [73:55] [applause] [74:03] Sometimes people make jokes about [74:09] while our defensive breaths are getting [74:12] settled. I just want to say thank you [74:13] for being here. Thank you for your [74:15] support. As you can see in the program, [74:17] we have a lot to look forward to this [74:19] year with more concerts and festivals [74:22] and we'd love to see you all back.
