[0:00] Bring those feet a little closer and
[0:02] together there.
[0:09] Do not move. Stay in that nice low
[0:11] position. Okay. Hands are either out in
[0:14] front of us or on the back.
[0:16] >> So, we have the learn a speed skate
[0:18] program which is a great opportunity to
[0:19] learn the sport of speed skating. Very
[0:21] affordable. Um, it's our top level
[0:24] athletes that are with our club that are
[0:26] helping coach along with a few of our
[0:28] actual coaches. Keep crossing over.
[0:30] There you go.
[0:31] >> And then after you graduate, I'll learn
[0:32] the speed skate program. You can come
[0:34] join the Midway speed skating club. Um,
[0:36] which to date has produced 21 Olympians.
[0:39] So, we've had a lot of success, a lot of
[0:41] history with the club. [music] Um, and
[0:43] it's a great family sport to be a part
[0:44] of.
[0:45] >> Okay, we're nice and low. And then we
[0:47] can stand up.
[0:49] Okay. And we're going to do that for two
[0:50] more straightaways. This is our third
[0:52] year of doing the learn to skate
[0:53] program. And we always have fun. We love
[0:56] that it gets us outside in the winter,
[0:58] but we also get to go fast [music] and
[1:00] it's kind of like an off-brand sport in
[1:02] our in our lives. Like it's not a lot of
[1:04] people do it, which is makes it
[1:06] especially fun. And like I get to keep
[1:09] learning. They get to learn something
[1:10] new. And the coaches are awesome. Like
[1:12] everyone's really nice.
[1:13] >> Go.
[1:14] >> I just want my kids to just go learn how
[1:16] to skate, enjoy it, have the mentality
[1:19] of putting in the hard work and the
[1:22] camaraderie that comes with the sport.
[1:24] Um, that's what I really want to see. If
[1:26] they want to do more, they want to take
[1:28] that to advanced levels, that's great.
[1:30] Learn how to go fast, um, and enjoy
[1:33] being out there. It's a very hard sport.
[1:35] It's not a natural position to be in to
[1:36] go fast in speed skating, and it really
[1:39] the hard work pays off. And you see the
[1:41] kids that do put in a lot of time, a lot
[1:42] of effort are the ones that usually are
[1:44] the most successful. The learn to speed
[1:45] skate program, you can jump on the uh,
[1:48] parks and wreck department websites here
[1:49] in Roseville or skatethe.com is also
[1:52] another website that goes through the
[1:53] parks and wreck. You can learn about the
[1:54] learn to speedkate program or any learn
[1:56] to skate program on there or the midway
[1:57] speedkating club's website which is
[1:59] midway speedkate.org. Um you can check
[2:01] that out and it has all the information
[2:02] you'll need also with learn to speedkate
[2:05] and the midway speed skating club. But
[2:06] it's been a great opportunity to help
[2:08] grow the sport and get athletes to their
[2:11] eventual goals in a sport of speed
[2:12] skating.
[2:13] >> I love giving back to the speed skating
[2:16] community cuz this is where I started in
[2:17] speed skating. I hope that they just
[2:21] enjoy the sport and that they keep going
[2:23] and maybe join the Midway Club speed
[2:25] skating club.
