Special Event Permit for Rotary Club and Resolution Accepting Donations from Rotary Club (Items H and I)
Dissent: One council member abstained due to a declared conflict of interest, but there were no votes against the motion.
Moved by Council Member [0:06:21] · Seconded by Council Member Cole [0:06:26]
A council member pulled both items due to a potential conflict of interest and announced an abstention. Another council member questioned the city's new practice of charging event fees for public events, highlighting a change from past years and expressing concern about the impact on various community groups, including churches and events at Veterans Park. Staff confirmed that previous fee waivers were not in line with current permit language, and council discussed reevaluating the policy for more exceptions.
Notable Quotes (4)
I pulled both items because I have potential conflict of interest and I choose to abstain from voting on both those items.
I'm of the understanding that the city has interpreted the rule different from a public event where in past years we haven't charged the event fees and so this is kind of a a new thing that we're doing... I just wanted to pause and say this is a change from the way that we've operated in the past...
previous practices... it was allowed to uh let that slide but it wasn't Don properly for the wording that we had if we did want to change that then yeah we we could bring that back to council um with exceptions more exceptions.
can I propose that we reevaluate that... I'd like to reevaluate the charging of those.
