I am the dean of trade and tech at St. Paul College. I have the privilege of overseeing Tom and Tom. Um I have been at St. Paul College, this is my fourth academic year and I am so excited about this. So the partnership is not new to us. Tom Hilstead has actually been working with Tom Spain for many years and the homes are beautiful and I have to say when I saw the big packet of homes at the last open house it gave me the chills because I feel like this is the start of something big. >> So I'm really here to support. I'm here to visit. I'm here to be a resource. I'm here to be a cheerleader and I just can't wait to get started and work with all the wonderful people here. So, um, thank you so much for all the work on the contract and all the questions and, um, we're just thrilled to be here. So, I am I'm kind of the guide on the side to the talent. So, I will turn it over to them. >> All right. Thank you very much. >> Tom can go first. >> Good evening and uh, thank you for having us here and my name is Tom Lyscow and I'm the uh, instructor of the carpentry department at St. Paul College. Um, I'm excited to be here. Uh, background is been in building since, uh, um, I graduated from college. Uh, went into education for 10 years, went into the construction field for 23, and now happy to be back at St. Paul College and back into education. Uh, I really enjoy working with the students, giving them those aha moments and and like, wow, this is why that happens. Uh the exciting part about this is that we're training our students for realworld um hands-on activities. Now when these students graduate, they go into these car carpentry careers and uh and it gives them a leg up on any other future employee because or employee employee potential uh because they are well trained, right? They have experience. They've been in the field um and they've experienced all the parts of it, especially with the construction of a new home, which I'm super excited about. Uh and the challenge is going to be uh exciting as well. Uh we have deadlines. I've spoke to the students about those deadlines and and we're geared up and ready to go. Uh as VA mentioned, we have 21 students currently in class. Uh our classes run from 7:30 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon Monday through Thursday. So you'll have a uh you'll have a commitment of five to six hours, four days a week from uh 21 students and myself as an instructor on site. Uh we're really hoping to get this uh marketed really well so that uh St. Paul College is seeing it. Uh you know, I'm hoping that um you know, we can run a daily uh camera out of there that's either taking still images or live video feeding back to the St. Paul College, possibly even feeding back here to North St. Paul website. so people can join in every now and then. We also uh are working with Procore um which is a construction management program. Um we're hoping to get um North St. Paul logged on to Procore as well so that we're able to manage the program or manage the project through Procore where you can see what's coming in, what's going out. Financials can be part of that if you want them part of that. Um contractors are going to be able to see it. you know, uh, excavator will be able to see the schedule and the timeline. Uh, plumbers, electricians, everybody that's assigned to the job and has access to Procore will have um, a partnership or uh, uh, will be able to join that and be part of that schedule so we can make this fluid um, as fluid as we can through the construction. So, I'm excited about this partnership. Uh, I know I've worked with VA for we've worked with VA um, for a long time. um to establish this. And I'm glad this night is here. I'm super excited to uh to get started. Um if uh if we could, we'd be on site next Wednesday. So, um but uh we're excited. So, appreciate your time. So, um, this isn't, this project is not new to me. What is new is the new project boss I got to answer to. >> So, but I'm looking forward to this. Uh, we've had this is the city of North St. Paul's been supportive through the years. Ry's always been my Randy and Ron been my kind of point guys for approvals on things and I'm glad to be working with them again. So, it's always a great student project. students take pride in it when they when we get all done and to see them just they spend about an hour taking pictures afterwards. So that just tells you how proud they are of the project and I'm glad you're continuing this on for us. Thank you very much. This program is one of those programs that we were not we were bummed to hear that Tom Span was retiring. Um, it's great that we're back with this partnership. Um, please know that this is something that I mean this is a this is the heart of North St. Paul with these students and we we love to see the results afterwards. You're going to really enjoy working with Ron and Randy. They're a great group of men to work with. Um, I on behalf of myself, I can definitely have our support and anything that we can do to support you, uh, just let us know. So >> they look really great. >> Yeah, she's doing she's her firm or their firm is doing a phenomenal job and and great to work with. So we hope that we can establish that partnership for long term as well. Are they basically the same size inside the the sides of the side by sides then >> twin? Y >> are they inside >> similar similar square footage? Yeah. One side is uh roughly 2200 square foot and the other side is maybe 100 square foot larger. >> So they're they're relatively close. Yeah. This particular site uh with the as with the buildable area um was kind of complicated. So the the design of the structures are kind of unique. You know, you think about a twin home and when you talk twin home, it's this one looks like this one. >> Well, in this case, they don't look alike. They're very uh very different. >> Um which is, I think, a good selling point >> uh for potential clients in the future is that, you know, this one's not like that one, but uh but square footage is very similar. So, >> yeah. Yeah, they looked really really nice. The layout and how they were. Yeah, just definitely to have a little bit of variety between the two is is always nice, too. >> Perfect. Right. You guys have always been great and uh Tom Spain is uh speaks highly of you which says a lot. He he's been wonderful at his job and you've got the same kind of experience doing that contract work and we're just looking forward to a great relationship and moving forward with it. So really appreciate this and moving forward. So um there is one difference between it. A lot of things are the same when it comes to the contract. Um there is one thing new which um it's actually a good thing. Uh so but there's going to be a scholarship type program with this new contract that um so we are going to put up $500 per student in the class that will then go back and be put into the program to help the program out and the kids uh joining this program. So I think that's a nice healthy thing. So otherwise you're talking about the same kind of liabilities and tors and things like that. So yeah scholarship I'll be good. >> Yes. >> Awesome. All right.
