it it showed that the recording was paused and now it is oh here let me see maybe I have it recording now yeah say it looks like it's I I have the little recording icon so I apologize for the uh my lack of technical prowess here so um I think we were are recording um and yes so thanks very much for joining us for um uh an information session about our upcoming inclusive workplaces cohort um just a a quick agenda for our time today um and I and as I mentioned it I think that this will be less than the full hour um unless there are lots of questions but um we'll spend just a couple minutes um kind of sharing some uh program background uh we'll have a chance to meet the team from ADR Consulting uh we'll talk a little bit more about some of the um elements of the program itself uh what the application process looks like um and then um just kind of um share a little bit about um some of the feedback and impact we have um seen from previous cohorts and then just open it up to the group for questions so just a little bit about sort of the why um you know Ramsey County if you don't know is um the most racially and ethnically diverse County in Minnesota um we have um over 40% of uh the County's population who identifies as something other a race other than white um so and we really see that you know um that that will continue to um kind of trend that way here in um in Ramsey County um we know that about 22% of our residents um are living in a home language the English is not their first language um or that English is not is not spoken so um so that is um you know kind of a a little bit about um kind of the demographics of of kind of where we see um the population here and um just kind of looking back in um 1960 about 98% of the population of Minnesota identified as white um whereas across the state um about 18% um identify as something other than white at this point and uh Ramsey County we know is even um more so that way um and we know that by by 2038 um 30% of the population across the state of Minnesota uh will be nonwhite and um obviously significantly more than that um right here in Ramsey County so um over the next few years the majority of births will be U persons of color so um that's part of the reason um that Ramsey County um is really committed to um investing in initiatives like this one um we understand that you know if we're just looking at it from an economic perspective um that um economic Prosperity here in Ramsey County is really tied to our C cultural vitality and so investing in the people that live here um is really a CR critical part of our Economic Development um strategy so um despite the you know kind of what's happening in the political ecosystem right now um Ramsey County remains committed to U investing in its people um and so um you know we're we're really firmly um behind uh initiatives like this one so another reason that the county invest in this type of work is that we have we recognize that we have systems that aren't working for everybody so you know we kind of like to say that perception is reality and although there are many companies doing great work not everybody um is feeling that and so um you can see uh some information here um that was pulled out of a um a study done by the center for economic inclusion um a couple of years ago and really um what you're seeing here is that um the vast majority of Minnesota's black indigenous and Hispanic communities indicated that they believe um that their group experiences discrimination when applying for jobs so um the same was also true for more than 3ars of Minnesota's mung population and so um but only 38% of um Minnesota's white population believe that their group is facing racial discrimination when applying for jobs so um you know it's really important that um you know that the county uh invests in these types of initiatives to um to help make some change in this area so uh this inclusive workplaces cohort um is supported in a by a partnership as I mentioned between our Workforce Innovation board um and the City of St Paul so um the the workforce board is a 33 member board uh that kind of oversees policy and oversight of Workforce programs in Ramsey County so that's kind of how that collaboration between the the county and City comes together is through this Workforce board and essentially um their main mission is to meet the needs of employers and job Seekers here in our community um so the web is um you know doing that through investing in people and developing Partnerships as well as identifying Workforce needs and um so through this partnership with the city um they are really uh the web is really investing in um lots of different types of initiatives um like this one we're talking about today as well as things like job fairs and other um programs in the community to help kind of make that match between employers and job Seekers so you can see um a photo here uh that was of our Workforce board as I mentioned there are about 33 members so it's a pretty large group made up of um the majority of them are private sector um Business Leaders uh we have folks from um elected officials from education Community organizations Economic Development so kind of really brings a lot of um great minds together to kind of help set the stage and path for how we provide Workforce programs in Ramsey County so this as I mentioned is our fourth cohort uh the first cohort was launched back in 2021 and we have run a cohort um essentially every year since that time um the first one kind of straddled 2021 and 22 so that's why the the timing is just a little bit off there um but it really kind of started um with the foundation laid by Ramsey County's economic competitive competitiveness and inclusion plan which is harder to say than uh you might think so um which really this plan kind of outlined uh the County's plan for uh both economic and and Workforce Development um and advancing uh Workforce inclusion to ensure that we're really amplifying uh the diversity of our community um and and strengthening the economic competitiveness of of all of our residents as well as supporting the business community so um just kind of really again bringing sort of that Workforce and economic development um lens to together uh and looking at it from um from an equity and inclusion lens so um you know the other um kind of key components of this program are um you know the ability to accelerate employers um ability to advance inclusion in their organization and to support businesses in um kind of creating more inclusive and sustainable Workforce and um you know you can look at it from a number of different perspectives but um if we're strictly looking at it from an economic perspective um you know we see that it is also um you know done from uh from the perspective of improving um bottom line results as well and really um the the the primary um the primary focus is to really help support small to midsize employers um although we would um um certainly open open up opportunities to larger employers we recognize the fact that it's really the small to midsize employers who often times don't have um somebody in their organization who is kind of focusing on kind of these types of efforts and so um we really try to um develop it around the needs of smaller to midsize employers and we also really want to minimize the barriers we recognize that there is a commitment of time for people to attend in-person sessions um each month um so there is no cost to uh to participate other than um kind of your time and your willingness to really engage in the work so as I mentioned this is kind of a a partnership uh between the workforce board Ramsey County um and the City of St Paul is embedded in there as well um and our Learning Partner ADR Consulting so I am going to hand it over to Alisia to um share a little bit about ADR and to introduce her team thanks Becky I really appreciate it and just um you know thank you for Carrie and Lindsay for being here with us and for other folks who might end up watching this recording later um we're really excited to serve as a Learning Partner this is now our second year serving in that capacity for this cohort um and I just cannot emphasize enough how much of a treat and a pleasure it was working with last year's cohort and even um so many of the great ideas that we've taken from even that cohort's experience to really optimize and enhance this year's experience so should you all choose um and select um to apply and then of course to be accepted um you're really really in for a a really great and meaningful and impactful experience so um a bit about the firm first and then I'll share a bit more about my colleagues and myself um but we work for ADR Consulting Group and um there are many words on the screen but I think the most most important ones to call out is that we are a workplace culture organization meaning in fact that is our primary goal um is to help to optimize enhance um and increase the outcomes and experiences for our employees at work if you zoom down to that bottom sentence our mission statement reads as follows but we're on a mission to help businesses adopt people first business strategies that create workplaces where the humanity and dignity of all employees are not only centered but they're prioritized um and so the meat um and the potatoes that are also on the screen are really the how the methodology and how we do that so we do that through Learning and Development opportunities like teaching workshops like what we doing for this program we do that through our data um which we call people analytics we do that through Executive coaching and then are also um strategic planning services and so really the goal and idea here is if we leverage data and strategy those are the connective dots to really help us to enhance that employees experience that we're so deeply committed to caring caring about if we go on to the next slide um just a little bit about the folks who make up this team well this is our project team so we have um you know a bigger team than this but specifically in sering serving as learning Partners in this um particular cohort there are a lot of people that it takes to run a program like this and really create a smooth experience for our participants so I'll start and we'll probably just give some introductions naming our experience and how we're going or yeah how we're going to be participating in this cohort um and anything else maybe that makes sense there but my name is Alicia and I serve as the CEO that's one of the many roles but I'm also a lead strategist at ADR um and so for this cohort um there's a lot of communications that are required with Becky um to make sure the backend Logistics and the operations are running smoothly so there's a lot of care and attention that I'm making sure that those things are happening as well as being a connective voice back to our internal team to ensure that we are on track and pacing um for everything that it takes to deliver this program so that's a little bit about myself um my colleague Cho Fogerty couldn't be here today but Cho um actually serves as our head of Learning and Development and so the content for the sessions that we'll be sharing in this PowerPoint um are really carefully curated by our head of Learning and Development um in really intentional ways or we're looking at some of the intended outcomes from the county from the workforce Innovation board and then putting all that together to develop what we hope will be a really meaningful experience for our participants um so that you're not only learning but you're walking away with real applicable skills to utilize and leverage and Implement back at your places of work so lots of intentionality there I'm going to go ahead and then pass it on to my colleague Karina to introduce themselves hello thank you so much elisia I'm very excited um to be working with Ramy County again um I'm born and raised in South Minneapolis um so I really enjoy um being able to work with with folks who grew up in the same area as me um so my name's Karina I use sh pronouns um I've been an associate consultant with ADR for three years now oh wow which is so exciting um and yeah I've been a facilitator for about seven um seven years so very excited to uh be able to be working Thana and I'll pass it over to Taylor as well and we can move on to the next slide Becky yes hello everyone my name is Taylor Thomas my pronounce is she her hers and I've been an associate consultant with ADR for a little over a year now and I'm really excited to bring my facilitation experience to this cohort to support its inclusive leadership development that is an area that I get really excited about and I'm really looking forward to guiding you all through this learning process ultimately so I will pause there and if Alisia you'd like to give some context for hi's role that'd be wonderful yeah I'd love to thank you Taylor um and so lastly for our project team for this particular um cohort that you can expect to hear from is hi mberg Brower hi serves as our project manager and so a project manager on our team is really going to be your main point of contact aside from the facilitators and so um Taylor and Ena will be our on-site facilitators so again we're going to talk through the logistics of this program but exciting um being able to see and connect each other with each other in real life um for our monthly sessions that'll be coming up starting in the spring um you'll get the treat of being led and guided by Karina and Taylor um the other person that you'll have a lot of touch points with again should you op to apply and be accepted would be hie so hi is really we call her the glue that keeps this all together hi is sending weekly update emails Al is the one who sends registration emails um reminders to fill out evaluations as we have them come up at hi really is the source of the um you know whatever questions or you know things that you need help with or guidance on H is a really wonderful resource and point of contact so um just highly highly highly our whole entire team but because how's the last person get to emphasize um the great level of value that um makes all of this run smoothly so um that's the ADR team and if you'd like Becky we can move on and then get into the cohort details I will um lead it up and then Karina um and Taylor if you want to add please do so um let's talk about what to expect right because when we hear the words cohort we hear sessions and attendance you might want to know well what's going to be asked of me so happy you asked um so essentially what you can expect is that we're going to be working to create a learning environment um that Fosters as a forum right for discussion and sharing of ideas while encouraging accountability through Brave spaces safe spaces yeah but Brave spaces um for confidentiality let's really talk about what that means essentially what we're saying here is that you can anticipate that when you show up to these sessions with us for this inclusive workplaces cohort we won't be lecturing at you right do not expect to come for 2 hours of just some facilitators talking me taking notes and then I'm going to go home right there are a lot of things happening here our team is well equipped well experienced in facilitation right and guiding a group through given concept Concepts and what's really important to us is that we're not only introducing a topic but giving you your own time for reflection giving you time to speak and connect with other people in the room who are in the same area might be going through the same different things right and have a sharing of ideas right so all of those things are happening in one space so one myth to dispel is you're not coming here just for lectures um and I hope that's also exciting for you I hope that's an exciting um tipit that when you come here it really is an opportunity to learn to grow to dialogue and think about how we can take these tools and leverage them within our own businesses right um moving along the cohort itself we will be having six 2hour sessions and so those six sessions will happen from May to October so that is all six of those months back to back they're going to be on Tuesday afternoons from 3:00 to 5: Central p.m. and so what I would encourage you to do is ensure you look at the Ramsey County site um to make you get those dates locked in and that you're referencing them on your calendar because it is an ask that once you are um signed up and ready to go right once you've applied and been accepted that you're able to commit to all six now we understand things might happen life happens those sorts of things uh we live in a cold weather place right roads are closed all these sorts of things could come up but we really want to ask that you're really diligent and intentional um because that's how we feel like you get the most out of this opportunity by attending all six um and those sessions at this point they're expected to be at Wilder foundation so we're still working on confirming but if you need to plug that into your calendar or your map and see how far away that is for you anticipate that will be at Wilder Foundation um and then there is going to be a graduation or recognition lunch that happens in December and we already have that location at the minnona humanity Center in St Paul um so that's kind of generally speaking um I want to go back to um Karina Taylor or even Becky did I miss anything or anything you'd like to add please feel free oh go ahead Oh no you're good Becky I was just saying I think you covered it yeah I I think you covered it as well I just wanted to chime in and say that um you know we've we've refined uh the cohort a bit um for 2025 really based on feedback that we heard from previous cohorts um we recognize the fact that it is a large commitment of time but when folks get together in person in these cohort sessions like they just didn't want to stop talking right it's like they didn't want to stop learning and cheering and all the things that are happening in this in the room and so um in past we it was one and a half hours and it was over a longer um number of months but I think that um you know we really have heard from folks that um that these two-hour sessions um are is kind of we're hoping that that is the sweet spot for a Time and um you know just the the the feedback is that the time goes just too fast so really really um we're really grateful to ADR for um facilitating these great sessions that are really wanting to bring people together and um to stay for the for the entire time um Alicia also mentioned um the commitment to really having um your presence there for every session uh we do ask that each organization we'll kind of get into a little bit more detail on that here in an upcoming slide but we really ask for each organization to really commit to individuals uh we would really hope that both individuals can come to each session however you know as lisia mentioned we recognize that life happens and things do happen so ensuring that at least one of you is at each session I think is really how um you can kind of fill in the Gap if you do have a a life happens type of moment during the during the course of the of the six months Karina maybe anything you'd add from um Karina was one of our facilitators in person um last year and just wondering anything else that might be helpful for folks as they think about like what this commitment might look like or what that experience might look like yeah I think um it's definitely like a commitment to um sort of coming do something after work uh you know you've been working all day you're like okay I'll I'll go to this meeting but we really really work to make it like an energizing and fun learning environment so it's definitely something that I think I would see you know participants come in they're dragging a little bit you know totally understandable me too I'm working and I'm getting my PhD like I I come in there and I'm like oh I'm tired but then once we kind of get together and the Energy starts flowing and the snack start blowing it's really really um a fun space to be in and I always felt like it was a great way to spend um you know sort of the beginning of the week um together so definitely worth um the time commitment I think and it's gonna it goes by so fast that is always the feedback that we got it's like oh we want more time we want more time we would always have people stay after a little bit and chat with us so it's definitely um like a fun and um energetic space to be in thanks Karina Becky we can go ahead and move to the next slide yeah Lindsay did you have a question at this point I wasn't sure you I'm curious if there is a set number of people or organizations that you hoping participate in the cohort or average cohort size type thing yeah so um there is a slide that talks about that here coming up in the application process but essentially we cap it at 20 organ ganization so it would really be about 40 individuals um to be very honest with you we have not had a cohort a full cohort um so um you know it probably would be some number less than that but that's that is the max it would probably be would be about 40 and so I'll start here with just talking a little bit more about some of those dates and what you can anticipate in the sessions right um so a couple of things are happening here one um today is the info session and so that's um already the first thing knocked off of our schedule for this year and the second would be for the folks who have applied and are selected they can anticipate that we're going to be having an orientation so this is definitely going to be the slide where you might want to take a picture or like I said refer back to the Ramsey County website because again we're going to be asking for your participation at these junctures and so these Tuesdays offered on the screen are I believe every 3D um every third Tuesday of the month between May and October um you will notice that for these sessions there is a break where there is nothing listed for November that is on purpose because in November we're going to give you time for something that we'll be talking about throughout the entirety of the program so one of those new enhancements that we listed was that this year's cohort is going to be participating in what we're calling a Capstone project and essentially the Capstone project is not a scary thing it's not for a grade but it's actually to be more helpful what we heard from our participants and previous cohorts was gosh the learning was so great I really appreciated everything that we talked through but I really needed some more tangible assets to take back to my my place of business I really needed something more practical that I can really leverage in real time at work and so we get that right and so what we've um what we've done for this year is we have launched a a Capstone project so that Capstone project is going to enable our participants to take one question maybe one challenge one barrier one concern or one area that they could use further support on and one area of their business and we want to really relate that back to people people management workplace culture something around inclusion because that's really still on topic um for the nature of the program and what we're going to do is actually work together with you to help you kind of T um work through um whatever that barrier issue concern question or just area of opportunity if you want to identify it in that way and so the really cool thing is each one of the topics is going to give you an opportunity to correspond that content right back to the project with which you're working on so as we go through these sessions we'll probably be introducing the Capstone project further in session one but by session two we're really at that point going to need you to have a pretty good idea of the project that you want to focus in on and so that way at the subsequent sessions we can really take each one of those topics so looking at creating a safe space for dialogue and conflict as an example we might have some data points about the nature of conflict and how that might deter plans around on and inclusive workplace and what to do about it with an implementable step tool to offer you but then we might have some opportunity for reflective questions to go right into how that might impact even your your organization and make some corresponding opportunities for dialogue and reflection to your Cap's own project all of this is going to lead up to a project that you'll actually be sharing back out at at the end of the program so we're still working through what that share out opportunity will look like because we want to be sensitive to your time um and I know that the recognition event is listed for December and you see it's 90 minutes it is a quick 90 minutes it goes by really fast and there's a a pretty full agenda there so TBD on what that share out opportunity would look like but I hope um to share that it is um something that we're actually hoping would find you would find beneficial as an add-on um this is what makes this opportunity such a treasured gift um that Ramsay is offering this as a resource because to be honest this is the work that our clients are literally paying for um right to help troubleshoot and work through and and the county is really providing this as a service to those who participate in the cohort so we're really excited for you to take on that opportunity um and so working with our facilitators and our team to help identify that area that you want to work through and then um kind of seeing the growth Journey um for all of the particip ANS having the opportunity to dialogue and connect with other businesses and see what those um organizations are dealing with and what they've selected and even learn from each other as well so that's just one thing to bring up um and bring aware um to your just to you about what you can expect Beyond The Sessions the titles um but is that Capstone project I want to pause there are there any questions um just about that Capstone okay um ta Taylor or Becky or Karina anything else about the sessions I know their titles were there but anything else you wanted to add or that would might be helpful I think something I'll add is that throughout the process of moving through each of these workshops you'll kind of observe that they build off of each other and there might be ideas or concepts from a previous Workshop that we go through that come up again later on because ultimately these strategies and practices are cyclical in a way where you can move through them at any time together so that is the idea with each of these workshops that they'll connect to one another yeah and I guess the only thing else I would have to add is just that um I think that um you know we have worked with a few cohorts now and really again you know we really value the feedback and input from the cohorts and so um you know part of the the refinement that we've made for this year um is really to kind of dial in on the topics and the sessions that the cohort participants themselves found to be the most valuable so um you know what you're seeing here is just a title but really behind that is um you know a lot of content that's based on um feedback that we've gotten um that you know that we're hearing from folks that that really are are helping to support the work that they're doing within their own organization so just in interest of time I'm just going to um there's just a couple more slides and the next ones are are are really pretty quick here um and then we can open it up for any final questions um but just um just in terms of the eligibility um you have to have presence in Ramsey County we've talked about the fact that um you know we're asking you to kind of designate two um leaders within your organization folks who have some decision making Authority or have um the ability to connect with the decision makers within your organization to be those folks who are participating um really commit to being at all the sessions um H having um a willingness to have your um participation shared out by the the workforce for in the county we we do some social media um features on the cohort participants so we really want to to lift up the work that you're doing and the work of your organization as being part of this um part of this program um Alisia already talked um in more detail about that Capstone goal project and that's something that we're really excited about adding to um the the cohort experience for this year um and then really just also um you know the question came up about how many organizations so really U we're looking at up to 20 organizations and we do give preference to that small um to midsize employer because we we recognize again that those are the organizations who often don't have the internal capacity to do some of this work um on their own um and then the application process um again um you can see the website here where you can find more information but um we're looking to close applications by Friday February 21st so you've got a couple of weeks to look at that the application process itself is is pretty simple there's just a few questions um just to give us a little bit more um Insight uh into kind of um you know where your organization is at in terms of um its work in this space uh obviously if you know if you have if your organization has has has really done no work in that space it does not preclude you at all from um being selected um but just as really more of an understanding of kind of where uh where your organization is at in kind of this inclusion space so um so we we're planning to make those Selections in March and uh notify you before the end of the month as to whether or not you are selected um and then again attending that orientation um session on April 8th will be that kind of that first time that we bring the cohort together to um to get to know each other so um I do see that our new Workforce Solutions director krice O'Neal has jumped on so katrice I just want to give you an opportunity to uh introduce yourself uh here to the group thanks Becky I didn't know that I was gonna speak I apologize I'm coming from another meeting so I apologize for jumping in here at the end of um this meeting but it's great to meet you all I Am brand new in my role so I am learning a lot alongside all of you around um the inclusive workplace cohort and a lot of the work we do as Becky mentioned um I am the new as of almost a month um Workforce Solutions director for Ramsey County and executive director of our Workforce Innovation board um really excited to have you all a part of this cohort and um again I look forward to um learning all that you will learn as a part of this experience and just continuing to advance our Workforce ecosystem here in our region so I appreciate um the opportunity to briefly introduce myself and say hello yeah thank you krice I really appreciate it so um just we're just kind of wrapping up here before we kind of just open up to other questions um just wanted to share um just a few few of the quotes we've had from um pre previous cohort participants um as I hope that you have um learned uh through the information we've shared already is that we really do value um the input and the feedback we get from uh folks who are have gone through and are going through the cohort so um we have had you know more than 40 organizations participate um and they actually represent within their organizations over 7,000 employees who are working here in Ramsey County so um it's um you know we we recognize the reach that it has and that's part of the reason that Ramsey County is um so firmly um supportive of this uh this work and these types of initiatives so just also wanted to share a couple of of photos from some of these previous cohorts um as Alisa mentioned we do a recognition uh session or lunch at the and of the cohort experience and um you know it's just a really great opportunity for our Workforce board to hear firsthand from um the participants of the cohort you know kind of what what this experience has meant to them and we have just heard some really really fabulous um you know sharing and um stories that folks have have talked about and how um this program has made a really significant impact um on them personally and as well as within their organization so yeah so with that I can just go ahead and stop sharing and um again just open it up to anybody who uh might have some questions or um final thoughts um before we wrap up and thank you Alisia for putting the the link um to the web page in the chat appreciate that yes so on that I have two questions is it really just the form that's at the bottom of that in the website I okay thank you for making it accessible and um yes um my other question is with I hate to ask but I'm gonna ask with the new Administration is there any fear that you would be canceling this cohort or that you wouldn't have enough participants in order for it to move forward so the executive order um around Dei initiatives really focuses specifically around programs that are funded with federal dollars um I think that the county is um really committed to this work and to this cohort and um so we are not fearful of of of that impacting the executive order impacting the um the cohort uh there are other funding um sources that the county has to continue moving forward with it for for this at least for 2025 so yeah yeah well yay Kudos Ramsey County and I know that's aun question to be asked so I appreciate your transparency and what at least we know at this point in time yeah absolutely I mean it's a very valid legitimate question there's a lot of um fear and there's a lot of uncertainty for folks but I I can say with um absolute and certainty that uh Ramsey County is you know firmly committed to in these types of Investments and um we'll certainly do everything that you know we can as a county to continue to move these types of initiatives forward so we talked at the beginning about the why and that hasn't changed and that's not going to change and so I don't think the County's commitment to this work is going to change either fabulous thank you yeah any other questions or I don't know Lisa if you have any final thoughts or no I'm just happy Lindsay asked the question because I I find it's on everyone's mind um so while it might be uncomfortable and while there might be uncertainty and we can't predict the future we can go off of what we know right now and I do just think one of the opportunities that I'm choosing to see it as an opportunity um is that right now we are also pulling on skill sets around agility creativity flexibility right um because we're talking about committed to something that isn't controversial um so demonstrating a care about people and and connecting through lines to our business operations to prioritizing the needs of our people our Workforce um that doesn't feel political to me that doesn't feel controversial to me um and there's lots of research that suggests that's a good business move and so I think um you know an opportunity as I was starting with is in this cohort um in real time we might be getting some good practice um with that flexibility and Agility at the same time even um us as a consulting firm that's that's something that we're constantly flexing on this end so happy to share tidb tidbits nuggets um and wisdom in that regard as well so if you're looking for Community as you work to go through this current year this also might be a good reason to tell a friend or two to join too yeah and I think as a county we really recognize the need I mean even you know amidst sort of the chaos and fear and confusion of all the things swirling last week we know we hosted this event that that I know Lindsay you were at and Carri your organization was at you know we still had 150 people which essentially we had to close registration for that event uh we had 150 people who were still committed to coming together to to learn and share um and you know this this cohort is is just another extension of the work that the county is doing to make sure that those conversations are continuing to happen so with that can I just really quick add I will reinforce what's already been said that as the Newbie kind of jumping into the county one thing that I really appreciate and have learned is that diversity equity and inclusion is not viewed as a term it is embedded in all of the work that we do and therefore coming in like my priority is to ensure that we can continue to do this work so we don't stop doing what we do until we are abruptly told to stop so um outside of that we fully are committed to all things to keep going at the very least we Chang some words which you know that's
