I got into running when I was probably 11 or 12. Our um elementary school does a little half mile like cross country race around the school and so in gym class we would practice for that and I kind of found out that I liked running and that I was good at it. So then I um you know enjoyed doing that with the school and then I started running on my own. Won state four times. I won junior year and senior year in cross country. And then junior year I also won uh the 1600 and 3200. And then I was also um the regional champion um between eight different states my junior year. I got third my senior year and then I was 10th at NXN which is like the national meet for cross country my senior year. Needed to get some work in the summer and um heard about parks and wreck and the different things they had and you know I I was a runner. I did track. I thought I had a little bit of expertise and so I wanted to just help out some kids, learn about track, see if, you know, maybe they would be interested and and do it in high school and and have a good fun career with it. You know, at Parks and Recck, we would throw games in there and stuff to just keep it fun and keep them running around and being active, you know, fun. So maybe when they're older, you know, they can take it a little bit more seriously. On the topic of like the Rose Parade, you know, when I was younger, I would always go to the Rose Parade with my family and family, friends, and stuff. And so that was always a good memory. and um just being out in the parks and hanging out with friends from school and stuff. I you know went to this parade when I was younger and kind of sat on the side and and enjoyed it as a little kid and so now it's kind of cool to have come full circle and I've grown up and now you know I'm in the parade. Roseville was really uh was really an amazing place and I think the values that I share today with my children or with my players or whatever. Um it really all started there from the values that my parents gave us uh uh me and my brothers um and just everything that we learned growing up um in that place. And I wish it's something that everybody could experience. We would spend a lot of time at Central Park, whether it was riding our bikes, uh we would go fishing there in Bennett Lake all the time, playing in the neighborhood, um going to the state fair, you know, we lived close to the state fair, so we were at the state fair all the time. I worked at the state fair, um in in in different jobs, so I mean, all those things were were awesome. Going to play when I was even younger, going to play hockey, going to the lakes, uh um you name it. Again, I just think it kind of had the best of uh the best of everything. one of the places we used to go and uh to Brim Hall Elementary School and they had this outdoor uh playground with eight foot hoop on it so we could all dunk, right? So that really kind of gave us a we could play um we could all dunk and and you know everybody wanted to be Michael Jordan back then like I did. Um and that's really kind of what started my love of of basketball was you know playing in in Brimhall, playing in the driveway and then eventually obviously picking it up and obviously it's become uh it's become my life now. It just had such a great mix of um family values, activities, parks, lakes, uh um all those things. And just kind of as our, you know, my life grew and our family's life grew, uh it's just really cool to be a part of a community like that. And uh it really was like like like utopia, you know, and and uh um bluecollar uh um very family oriented and and uh um it's a great place to to have been from cuz I remember going to to this parade. Um my nieces and nephews still go, my parents will go or whatever. So I just think it's important to remember where you where you came from and to celebrate that. Um and and that's kind of what we're doing here. And so again, none of this has really hit, you know, for me like full circle, but I think it's important to do those things and and I'm looking forward to it.
