I am applying to serve on the Planning Commission as my
first choice, and the Public Works, Environment, and
Transportation Commission as a closely aligned second
choice, because I want to be more actively involved in
shaping the future of the city I call home.
I’m drawn to the Planning Commission because it sits at the
intersection of long-term vision, land use, housing, and
community well-being. Roseville is a strong city in part
because of its location between St. Paul and Minneapolis,
its steady growth, and its consistently increasing property
values. I’m interested in contributing to planning decisions
that support continued improvement and economic vitality
while maintaining a city that remains livable and welcoming
Page 4 of 21
for residents over time. I care about thoughtful growth that
balances development, environmental responsibility, and
quality of life, and I bring a systems-oriented perspective
that considers long-term impacts, tradeoffs, and how
individual decisions fit into the broader whole.
While I do not have direct city planning experience, I bring a
strong background in planning, project management, and
systems design, including experience building frameworks
and long-term plans from the ground up. I approach
complex decisions with a systems mindset, considering
tradeoffs, sequencing, and long-term impacts, and I value
learning from city staff and subject-matter experts to apply
those skills effectively in a municipal context.
Please describe any
activities, specific
skills or experiences
you have that you feel
would be beneficial to
serving on the

commission(s) for
which you are

I bring a combination of planning, collaboration, and
advisory experience that would support effective service on
an advisory commission. I hold a certificate in project
management and have extensive experience building
systems, frameworks, and long-term plans from the ground
up, which has strengthened my ability to prepare
thoroughly, evaluate complex information, and think through
sequencing and tradeoffs.
I have also served on a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
committee in a prior role, where I worked collaboratively to
review policies and practices, listen to differing
perspectives, and contribute constructively in an advisory
capacity. That experience reinforced the importance of
thoughtful dialogue, shared accountability, and grounding
recommendations in both data and lived experience.
Professionally, I’ve worked on teams ranging from small
startup environments to large, international organizations,
including Meta. As a result, I’m comfortable navigating
ambiguity at different levels of scale, working within
structured processes, and adapting my communication and
problem-solving approach to the context. I thrive on
collaborative teams of any size and take seriously the
responsibility of contributing prepared, respectful, and
community-minded input.
How do you see your
lived experiences

I bring an active, responsibility-driven approach to equity
and inclusion. I’m aware that as a white woman, I have not
experienced systemic barriers related to race, and I don’t
view that as a reason to disengage. I believe equity work
requires people to get involved where they can make a
difference, rather than waiting to be directly affected.

City's equity and
inclusion initiatives?
My personal motto is “get in where you fit in.” For me that
means taking action, whether through volunteering, serving
in organizations I believe in, supporting neighbors in
practical ways, or contributing time and effort to systems
that shape community life. I see equity not as an abstract
concept, but as something built through consistent,
everyday decisions that consider who benefits, who bears
the burden, and who may be unintentionally left out.
I believe strong communities are built through mutual
responsibility: people showing up for one another and taking
care of the places they live. My interest in serving on a city
commission is a way to put that belief into action locally, by
contributing time, judgment, and follow-through to help
ensure Roseville continues to be a city where people can
thrive.

As a parent, AVID tutor, active community member, and a
person who has worked and lived in diverse settings, I have
learned that diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential to
improving the world we all live in. Diversity in backgrounds
provides people with more broad and collaborative learning
opportunities, and certainly provides a greater basis for
critical thinking and understanding of others, as well as for
taking action that promotes equitable life opportunities for
all.

students, as an AVID tutor in Roseville and Rosemount
schools, and in my career with co-workers from many parts
of the world and from many ethnic and religious
backgrounds. My career provided me opportunities to work
and live in Europe as well as various areas in eastern,
central, and western United States. I have also traveled to
Japan and China, and formed relationships and worked with
people from many parts of the world. All of this has been a
gift that has helped me improve my communication and
listening skills, and gain better understanding about the
value of our collective diversity in pursuing collaborative
opportunities.
How do you see your

City's equity and

I hope to bring my abilities to listen, integrate perspectives,
and develop action oriented plans – learned from a career
managing and leading complex and broad projects – to the
commission's work to recognize needs in our community
and to the formation of initiatives that will properly respond
to those needs.

I grew up in 4-H which stresses the importance of service to
one's community. For a little over two decades I worked on
a paid-on-call basis for the Falcon Heights Fire Department
- and am very thankful for that opportunity. I am looking for
a new way to serve.
I am a good match for this commission, in part, because of
my unique perspective. You see, I am a white guy who
usually passes as straight, and have experienced life
through that lens. However, I'm also gay, and sometimes
am unintentionally exposed to people's real feelings when
they think they are around "safe" people, feelings that are
not very inclusive. Of course, I've also very intentionally
been made to feel not included or, actually not been
included. I don't want anyone else to experience that
feeling.
I strongly believe that we are to make the world a better
place for all and this is one way I can help make that
happen, by serving on this commission.
Please describe any

or experiences you

which you are applying.
Working as an Emergency Manager, I have had the
opportunity to work in higher education, government,
healthcare, and for a Fortune 5 company. In those various
settings, I've had to adapt my approach and communication
style to fit my audience, be it mechanics or surgeons,
professors or boiler plant operators.
I also volunteer as a Peer-To-Peer Support person for
firefighters with mental health challenges, another group
that provides free vet care to the pets of the unhomed, and
a tutor for mostly blue-collar students needing help passing
a Civil Service Exam, focusing on the sciences and math.
These experiences have taught me the necessity of
listening, really hearing, what people are saying. Being able
to shut my mouth and hear affords me an opportunity to
accurately grasp their message and then respond according
to THAT need, not one I think is best.
I currently work for the City of Brooklyn Park, which has
helped me better understand the role of city employees and
the City Council. Back in 2016-2017 I served on the Falcon
## Heights Policing Inclusion Task Force. I believe that my
current work, which involves Directors and Council
members, plus my time with a task force dealing with a
highly contentious issue, will greatly aid me in
understanding my role as a commissioner, how to bring
people with strong and contrary opinions together on an
outcome, and exhibit, through my behavior and words,
respectful and productive behavior that serves as an
example for others.
How do you see your
lived experiences
contributing to the
City's equity and
inclusion initiatives?
Growing up I was in the Mounds View School District. My
family was on food stamps and yet we lived, literally, across
the train tracks from North Oaks. The differences in family
finances was clear. I remember one day while in line for
school lunch, when a lunch lady told me in front of my
friends that she knew I got free lunches. I was incredibly
humiliated and made to feel "less than". That is a feeling
that we can prevent others from feeling.
I also know that when I see a rainbow sticker on an entry
door, or staff with a rainbow pin or lanyard, or wording in city
documents that uses words like "partner" instead of
Page 10 of 21
husband or wife, that I feel seen. I really feel as though the
people I'm about to work with acknowledge that I exist. How
simple is that? Exist! They might not be gay, maybe they
don't know much about gay culture, but at least they know
that gay people exist (and are welcome). It is such a simple
thing, really, to acknowledge someone. It is like looking in
the eye of someone begging for food or money even if you
have nothing to say, but to look at them and nod, lets them
know someone sees them.
There are many ways we can be inclusive if we try. If we are
willing to ask questions that make us uncomfortable, if we
are able to hear people when they answer us, and if we
care enough to improve this world for others, we can do
this. It means so much to me when others do it - I hope to
have the chance to help our whole city do it for others.

Equity and inclusion efforts by government bodies and
employers are under scrutiny by the federal government. I
believe in the importance of equity and inclusion, and want

successfully implement their equity and inclusion initiatives.
My work history along with my professional and personal

nation. I have spoken to national conferences and written
extensively about my field. I was the long-time president of
an association of business representatives who were
committed to finding ways to fulfill their EEO, AA, and
diversity responsibilities. I continue to work in this field, and
have extensive knowledge about what is occurring at the
federal and state levels of government in regard to EEO,
AA, and diversity issues. While I would bring a commitment
to diversity and inclusion to the commission, I would also
bring a unique understanding of the legal and practical
issues that cities and businesses face. I also have the
following attributes which might be beneficial to the advisory
commission:
- Six years of experience on a school board, including three
years as school board president.
- Extensive experience as a volunteer developing and
leading non-profit organizations.
- Leadership experience for a local human resources
association where we piloted various diversity and inclusion
programs both for board members and for association
membership.

My role as a consultant has required me to understand the
needs and interests of people and organizations that have
equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and
diversity initiatives. I have been actively involved in helping
organizations find solutions to complicated issues. In my
consulting work, I have been a strong advocate for
understanding the needs and interests of all employees and
applicants, and for finding ways to ensure organizations
recognize the strengths and potential contributions of a
diverse workforce. As leader of a local human resources
association, I was instrumental in founding various diversity
and inclusion initiatives. In my home life, my wife and I
taught our children to respect other people including the
culture and history of other people. We are proud that our
daughter is currently responsible for overseeing DEI
initiatives for her employer.

## The City's commissions

council. Please describe
why you want to serve
on the commission(s)
you listed.
I want to serve as Diversity and Inclusion Commissioner, as I
believe equitable representation and inclusive policy-making are
essential to a city that truly serves all of its residents. As a mixed-
race woman, of Irish, Hispanic, and Native heritage, I have
experienced both the strengths and the gaps in systems that are
not always designed with diverse lived experiences in mind.
Those experiences have shaped my commitment to ensuring that
city policies, programs, and services are developed through a
lens of equity, cultural awareness, and belonging.
The Diversity and Inclusion Commission plays a critical role in
advising City Council on how decisions affect communities across
race, ethnicity, gender, ability, age, income, and immigration
status. I am motivated to serve because I want to help bridge the
gap between community voices and city leadership—especially
voices that are too often unheard or underrepresented. I am
particularly interested in supporting initiatives that promote
equitable access to city resources, inclusive community
engagement, and data-informed strategies that address
disparities.
As a project manager, I bring a collaborative mindset, strong
listening skills, and a commitment to respectful dialogue. I value
working across differences and believe that community progress
happens when we pair lived experience with thoughtful policy
review and accountability. Serving on this commission would
enable me to contribute my perspective, learn from others, and
help the City of Roseville make decisions that are not only
inclusive in intention but also equitable in impact.
Please describe any
activities, specific skills
or experiences you have
that you feel would be
beneficial to serving on
the advisory
commission(s) for which
you are applying.
I bring a combination of professional expertise, community
involvement, and lived experience that would be highly beneficial
to serving on the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission.
Professionally, my background in project management has
strengthened my ability to organize complex initiatives, track
goals, evaluate outcomes, and collaborate across stakeholders—
skills that are essential for reviewing policies and advancing
equity-focused recommendations. My experience in medical
compliance has given me a strong foundation in regulatory
review, ethical decision-making, confidentiality, and
accountability, all of which translate well to advising on city
practices and ensuring they align with inclusive standards.
Additionally, my work in public education has reinforced the
importance of clear communication, accessibility, and community-
centered engagement when sharing information or gathering
public input.
Beyond my professional background, I volunteer with Ramsey
County's Roseville library, supporting an institution that serves as
a vital, inclusive community space for residents of all ages,
cultures, and backgrounds. This experience deepened my
appreciation for equitable access to public resources and the role
libraries play in lifelong learning and civic connection. I have also
volunteered with the Minnesota Brewers Guild, where I worked
alongside diverse groups of people and supported community-
focused events, further strengthening my ability to collaborate
across industries and perspectives.
As a mixed-race woman, I bring a lived understanding of how
identity, culture, and representation shape people’s interactions
with public systems. I am a thoughtful listener, detail-oriented,
and committed to using both data and lived experience to inform
recommendations. I believe these skills and experiences would
enable me to make meaningful contributions to the commission’s
work and support the City of Roseville in developing policies and
practices that are inclusive, transparent, and equitable for all
residents.
How do you see your
lived experiences
Having lived in Roseville for more than 30 years, my connection
to this community is both personal and deeply rooted. I grew up
Page 19 of 21

here, attended school here, and have remained active in the
community into adulthood. This long-term perspective allows me
to see how Roseville has evolved, where progress has been
made, and where gaps in equity and inclusion still exist. I have
experienced Roseville from multiple vantage points—both as
someone who feels a strong sense of belonging and as someone
who has, at times, navigated systems and spaces that were not
fully inclusive.
My lived experience gives me insight into how policies, programs,
and community engagement efforts impact residents differently
depending on race, culture, age, and access to resources. I
understand the importance of creating spaces where all residents
feel seen, heard, and valued, not just in intention but in everyday
practice. Having grown up alongside Roseville’s changing
demographics, I am especially motivated to ensure that city
initiatives reflect and serve the diversity of families and individuals
who now call Roseville home.
I also bring the perspective of someone who is invested in
Roseville’s future. This is not a temporary role for me—it is about
contributing to a city that I have grown up in and hope future
generations will experience as welcoming, inclusive, and
equitable. I see my lived experiences as a bridge between history
and progress, helping the City shape equity and inclusion
initiatives that are informed by community trust, cultural
awareness, and a genuine understanding of residents’ needs.
