Wondering about a development coming to your neighborhood? Want to improve safety on your street? Maybe your local park could use some TLC. Connecting with your local district council could be a great place to start. I would say that being involved in the district council has really just helped make me much more informed about the things that affect my community. Right. So, we have speakers from the city, from the county. Learning how all the different pieces come together to make a neighborhood, to build a park, has just been really an incredible opportunity uh to learn and to grow and to meet new people. >> District councils are a network of neighborhood-based organizations that engage and represent their communities to address local concerns. The groups represent the city's 17 planning districts. District council meetings and events help residents learn about what's happening in their neighborhoods. It's a way for neighbors to work together on local priorities and give their recommendations to the city. It's really important to have community input like every step of the way. Everyday volunteer folks who have decided to be able to lead their community by joining the district council boards who want to get more involved in local government. And that's been the partnership for me is everyday people who need to be able to tell me if I'm doing a good job or not and also what they want to see here at city council. Local businesses are also part of the community and they can benefit from connecting with their district council. If your business is worried about something, whether it's traffic or parking, it's likely that your district council is already on top of it and has either heard from another business or has noticed it themselves. And they're usually already actively trying to figure it out and trying to better it for you. Your district council needs you and your voice. Here's how to get involved. Attend a district council meeting or community event. It's a great way to learn what the experience is all about. Find your district council online and sign up for their e newswsletter. Volunteer or run for a board seat in your district and make a difference. >> If you're even a little bit curious, I would say just go to a meeting, see what it's all about. But if you're interested in serving your community, I think it's a really good opportunity.
