The discussion centered on the details of the PUD amendment, including the expansion by 35 stalls using two newly acquired residential properties. Key deviations from the zoning code were highlighted: a zero-foot setback on Weber Street, a section with 13 stalls lacking a parking island (where one per ten is required), and one island being 7 feet wide instead of the mandated 8 feet. Staff clarified that these deviations allowed the expansion to integrate into the existing site while still upholding the broader goal of incorporating green space for heat reduction, as per updated zoning code objectives. Staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval, noting no public opposition during prior hearings.

when we updated the zoning code, uh we had um landsc internal we had standards for the downtown area that addressed adding green space into parking lots. And one of the kind of overarching um goals of the of the zoning code update was to put in place standards that would kind of extend and and and um mimic the design standards in downtown.

The idea about the the the number and spacing of of the stalls is also not just an aesthetic thing. It also helps provide um green space within parking lot islands to create a tree canopy that'll help reduce um the heat effect that comes with larger parking lot areas.
