Wagner Park Trail Extension Project
Dissent: None

The project's scope increased significantly due to unforeseen engineering complexities, leading to a substantial cost hike from $24,000 to an estimated $75,000, requiring external contractors. This increase exhausted the initially earmarked park dedication funds. The discussion weighed the importance of the trail for pedestrian safety against the current financial limitations and potential future competing priorities. The commission ultimately decided to keep the project as a priority but delay active pursuit until funding is secured.
Potential Picnic Area in Pet Hill Open Space
Dissent: Paul/Commissioner Hokes (voted 'nay' as he advocated for the full picnic area with tables and concrete pad)

The proposal for a picnic area in Pet Hill Open Space, following a major tree clearing, garnered local support, including potential financial and maintenance contributions from the HOA. However, commissioners debated the necessity of the full proposal (concrete pad, picnic tables) versus simply creating an open grass area, citing existing amenities nearby and current budget constraints. The decision was made to explore the less costly 'green space' option first, with the possibility of adding features later if external funding materializes.

when the first part, you know, when we first started out, it was it's nice flat area. Boom. The guys can dig it and put it in. I think, you know, when you look at it, there are some water issues, hydraology issues, and cos and things mostly when it gets into the park itself going into the park. Yeah, the long and short of it is it became a simple put a trail down to something engineered and complex requiring what you said and multiple other things.
as you see on the top with the project, our fund pukes out in 2027... we just don't have the funding for it in our park dedication fund.
But that's not a guarantee that that'll be approved because like I said, something else could jump in the way. Could be another neighborhood that needs a playground or something else.
The homeowners association which I in down in Pet Hill they like the idea and they would probably help contribute to not only the expense of the picnic tables but would also pro would maintain it. You know, we do now. We maintain the whole park now on our cleanup days and we've adopted the park.
Given our last discussion, like I would not be comfortable giving any of our budget to this project right now.
So, what I'm hearing is a recommendation to come back with price estimates for a grass area, an open area, just grass or turf with no picnic table or concrete.
