Uh police, anything to be passed on? Um we did have nightight on Tuesday night. Um myself, uh Gina, Josh, uh were out on behalf of city hall. We went around, we had four parties, which is lower than typical. They were really good parties, though. And we had two teams out, so we're able to spend a substantial amount of time at each party, which was good because there were a lot of really good conversations that were held. Um I I guess I would ask you guys to talk about your um you know kind of summary bullet points of it but in my experience I had a lot of conversations I actively tried to solicit. So it's like hey do you guys have any questions? Well if you force me to and then that was usually followed with do you have any complaints and they're like no. Um, on the question side, we're kind of moving back to what the big three. What's going on with the interchange and whose idea was it to put those stop signs up? Um, the other question, the other one we get is uh just kind of a timing of when do we think we'll have more uh businesses in town and that has a variety of purposes. A, I want more restaurants because, you know, hey, it's always good to have more services. The other one is they recognize the impact of the tax base and they're savvy about that. Um and the other part is just you know general goods and general goods and services. Um the feedback that I have was all pro growth. Um the other item uh that people talked about was the cost of their water bill. Um why is you know my water bill's high? How do we get it down? When does it go down? What are the factors that drive it? Just variations of that um that are out there. Um so those were the big themes uh that were that were out there. I know somebody's going to ask me, did you hear anything about Niagara? No, I had one question on it. Um, and otherwise it didn't even come up except maybe tangentally as they're asking about water bills and stuff, but it wasn't it wasn't something that was proactively brought up in the conversations except from one resident. Um, which I think might have been prompted by the newsletter article. So, um, you guys, so the parties were great. Um, I met a lot of people, saw some people I knew. Um, I guess I had some people ask about the well, some wells questions, a couple people who live on wells. Um, yeah. Other than that, the kids were really excited to see the police officers and, you know, see all their cool, you know, their handcuffs and all that stuff. I I do have to say that our I'm assuming knowing who is on your crew, but our officers are so good at this. Um, and in the neighborhoods that we went to, they knew people, people knew them. This is exactly what it's all about. and they were excited to see them and you could see the relationships they have with individuals within the neighborhoods and and how much their support is amazing. Yeah, it was it was really cool and also with the water bills too. I did hear some of that. Yeah. Yeah. Know generally same things. Kudos all around to police department. They always see the police rolling through. We got stuck is not the right word. Spent a lot of time up at Pete's Hill. I mean up there for god, it felt like an hour and a half, two hours. It was an hour and a half. Yeah. Uh and they were just like they loved the neighborhood. They loved the layout. Like just they were a good group of people up there. Um and then the plowing, the mowing of the trail. They commented up by Pete's Hill and how nice that's been maintained and how awesome that's been. Um yeah, and some of the general comments about more business, different business. Um but otherwise, overall, super pleased stuff like what would you change not and keep the way it is? I love moved I moved here from Northfield. I moved here from wherever and we love it. So that's awesome. Yeah. Is any is there any concern about the decline the trending decline in number of parties? I mean four seems it seems like it's been trending that way for a while now. Well it that's because COVID. So during CO there wasn't parties and then we were kind of low coming out of CO. Um and we to be blunt haven't invested a lot of time promoting them. It's more like, hey, if you want to sign up, and that's something that we're changing. So, uh, Josh got just reassigned this to him this year, so it was his first year through, and we've talked about that that we maybe need to be a little bit more aggressive promoting it ahead of time than we maybe have been, but we're still kind of we still think we're still in that postcoavid environment. Um, we've also had a couple of neighborhoods that previously were I mean like uh Boulder Point they and Nick and that corner on Glenboro and they got burnt out from it. They did it every year for a decade or however long. I tried to do it last year and it was fine but I was like I I can't do it again and nobody else even chimed up about it. I got a text the day of kids in the neighborhood. Yeah. Yeah. As you get older, you're busier. Yeah. That's what I'm seeing. Or then you're Pete's Hill and everybody's retired, right? So, well, it was kind of sad. I had a couple of the six-year-olds ride on their bikes and they saw me and they're like, "Where's the party?" Yeah, we're looking for the party. Like, dude, it's not down here this year, so they they were a little disappointed. But I mean, I don't know. Directly by me, I feel like it's kind of what the neighbors do anyway. Hang outside and have a beer and kids play. So it's not like anything out of there there's one thing that's really clear is we have really strong neighborhood identities um in our community. Yeah. Um because when you're there they talk about our neighborhood, our neighborhood. Our neighborhood and there's a deal of pride and there's a lot of cohesiveness. Um part of it I think is just the culture of the community. Part of I think is how our community is designed. If you look at every neighborhood, they are clearly distinct geographically. It's not this mass of one neighborhood running into another. They all kind of have their own ins and outs and the geography and everything. They're very distinct. Um, but that is one thing I haven't seen in always in other communities is that type of strong neighborhood identity in a positive way. It was kind of cool to see Boulder Heights, too. I mean, it's being so new. I mean, it was I mean, seems like they have a good crew there and we go walking around there all the time and they even do breakfast on like Saturday mornings. They're grilling out sausages and stuff Saturday mornings and stuff. It's kind of fun. Cool. All right. Engineering 10 minutes. Is that enough for your item, Rich? Yep, it sure is. Yes, it is. Any um followup and nobody asked it, but I and I forgot to mention it. Maybe I hid from it, but the Andrew uh lane, Andrew Avenue, Boulder Heights, that one by the park. Yep. And we were looking at it. We didn't have time. I mean, I know it wasn't in the priority of things, but I didn't know if it's We We have to get some traffic counts and some movements down there. I was also able to get some broader feedback from the residents at the the party. So that's also what these things are good for about that particular issue that might help inform our analysis on it. I haven't even had time to relate it to Rich yet. So I was projecting. All right. Um community development any be passed on. Um, no. I think the council's up to date on on those items. Okay. Oh, well, unless you had any questions related to the clean sweep or the fire rescue days survey results. No. Um, I'm assuming parks. Um, no. Uh, there are a couple items that are moving through. Jake is going to be talking to them at their next meeting about um non- tax revenue sources um that they wanted to look at further and that was basically a roundup program through utilities which we found is feasible but very low revenue generator um we uh they're going to be a donation program and then community foundation type approach. So he's basically here's some additional information. We're looked at a more granular level. What do you want to do with this? Do they make sense to pursue? And then ultimately recommendations up to the council if something comes of that. Any further talk about pickle ball? One of the other items they have to work through is uh how do they want to prioritize or what uses for those dollars that are coming in? Pickle ball is on the list. It's one of the top ones as well as potentially uh some additional trail segment by Wagner Park. So Jake and I were just talking today about how we advance those discussions. The biggest challenge with pickle ball is the having a physical location to put it. Um but that would be um that is one of the more greatly desired items. It's more okay but you got to have a spot to put it. So and the other thing I heard was compost. I don't know if that goes under parks or if that goes somewhere else. But a lot of people are asking about compost facilities uh closer than New Prague and and an option and I don't know if there's a Scott County thing that we could partner on and I don't know what anything like that cost but besides the staying on top of it and so I don't think so. But Cory wants to go out there and stir it every day and maintain it. We don't have a place. We've talked about it for a decade and a half. Um because you have to have a location that you either man or it has to be in a location where you can provide regular access to that's secure that doesn't create other issues that doesn't create issues for neighbors. And at this point we just don't have a a place. We have ultimately talked that out at the public works facility longterm there may be a location out there but we've um how many discussions have we had with Mark Nagel over the years? probably there's so much stuff sitting out there too that you you want public access to all of that. No, it's a secure site. Plus, you're going by neighbors on a driveway and we've had um neighbor relations issues in the past when we weren't controlling who was driving on that road. So, there's a there's a lot of considerations and if you look at other locations, there just isn't a great there just isn't a great spot for it. We've looked at it a lot, but it might be one of those the time just isn't right till we have a better location. Uh CC, um we have a meeting coming up in a couple weeks. Um community picnic is on August 24th. We always welcome council members to come and participate. if you can let Linda know for sure shortly if you plan on being there or not because it gets back to staffing for the event. Uh the primary item was uh discussing the process to get feedback from the membership on the legislative priorities for the coming session. uh any service delivery the primary discussion topic for the upcoming item is going to be the insurance consortium topic. We'll just go to discussion by council. Anyone got anything? Just one little quick thing. Uh, so that rental licensing bill that we got passed last session, it's causing an uproar. It's hilarious. Cities are pissed and the League of Minnesota cities and metro cities are going to have to try to scramble to fix it now, I guess. Um, so more to come on that, but I'm having fun calling out cities that are enforcing the rental license when they can't and shouldn't be. another the most current one today was um some providers got a a letter that says they have to fill out the application to not have an application for rental licensing or something essentially. So they have to apply to not have to apply for a rental license. And then if they don't do that by September 1st, they're going to hold them to all the rental licensing requirements until they submit their application to not have to file an application. It's not one of my cities. It's a central suburb about 39 miles north. 39 miles exactly. I looked them up. So anyway, I'm having fun. Having fun messing with Seems like you are.
