--- ## title: JES Board Report Update July 2026 --- ## Jordan Elementary School ## JES Principal Summary for July 13, 2026 Summer is a great time to refresh, reimagine and reflect on the previous school year to plan and prepare for the upcoming fall. Below is a summary of work completed from June through mid-July for the year ahead. ● PRIDE in Student Achievement; PRIDE in Student and Staff Support ○ We are excited to interview Kindergarten teacher candidates on July 15th, as well as planning to hire a JES/JMS Administrative Assistant (to replace Cassie Mengel). We continue to monitor enrollment numbers and students’ needs to determine next steps for filling any other positions in our building. ○ Shout out to our JES Targeted Services staff who recently wrapped up summer school. It was great seeing so many students receiving academic support to maintain and progress their learning over the summer. Our social-emotional summer program began after the July 4th holiday week, and kids are excited to attend programming that will offer them practice of SEL skills off campus at various field trip locations. ○ Several teachers have participated in summer book studies and curriculum writing related to math and literacy in order to better support the instructional needs in the classroom, as well as prepare for the full implementation of the new math standards in fall 2027. ## ○ Erin Hjelmeland, Renae Milawski and Kimberly Pettinelli (JPS ## Literacy Coaches) and I worked on the JPS Literacy Plan and submitted it to MDE in mid-June. This aligns to the district/site plan created this past spring for MDE’s North Star Accountability Report, that will guide our professional development for the next three years at JES. ○ K-3 Teachers will be implementing Bridge2Read (new for 3rd grade this year), which is aligned to the Science of Reading and will support staff in the implementation of the foundational literacy skills learned during CORE Literacy and LETRS training. ○ Amy Hafemann and I collaborated on the Title grant application and submitted it to MDE in late June. We have scheduled a meeting with the principal of St. John’s, Ann Dettmann, to consult with her on Title II funds for their staff. ○ Members of our Behavior and Intervention Teams attended the annual COMPASS training in mid-June to learn more about effective literacy, numeracy, CRP, family engagement and behavioral strategies to integrate into our programming for the fall. Staff remains committed to the work we’ve been involved with, and continue to reflect on implementing evidence-based practices aligned to our MTSS framework. ● PRIDE in a Caring and Committed Culture ○ The JPS Admin Team met at the end of June for our summer retreat. We tackled quite a few topics related to the upcoming school year and beyond, as well as our focus and theme for the fall. We will continue to grow our Jordan PRIDE and align our building work to the Jordan Strategic Plan. ## ● PRIDE in Communication, Marketing and Outreach; PRIDE in Facilities- ## Indoor/Outdoor Spaces ○ This is the first summer we’ve had programming back at JES in several years (usually housed at JMS). It’s been great being back in our building serving our students and families in our newer spaces, along with offering a variety of Community Education and athletic programs. ○ Elise and I continue to work on our Countdown to Kindergarten communications for the summer. Our first message was sent in ## mid-June, with Ms. Kari Borneman, JES Admin. Assistant, following up with phone calls to families who have yet to register or decide on plans for the fall. As of today, we have 128 Kindergarteners registered, compared to 83 at this time last year (and it’s only mid-July!).
