The Prior Lake City Council proclaimed January 20, 2024, as Dave Chromy Day during its meeting Tuesday, recognizing his 44 years of service to the community through grocery store management and civic leadership roles.

Chromy served as store manager for various grocery establishments from Rodamacher's Red Owl to Lunds & Byerlys, retiring January 19 after decades in the local grocery industry. He also served on the Prior Lake Fire Department from 1988 to 2002, including three years as fire chief, and held leadership positions with the city's Economic Development Authority, serving as president from 2017 to 2021.

Mayor Kurt Briggs presented the proclamation, noting Chromy's role in guiding the EDA through major infrastructure projects and pandemic business support programs. Council members praised his community contributions, with Council Member Burkart calling him "one of the best that this community has to offer."

The council also approved an off-sale liquor license for MGM Wine and Spirits at 14173 Commerce Avenue. MGM Holdings LLC is resuming corporate ownership of the location after franchise operators closed the store. Company representative Mike Maggalich said the store will reopen by January 31 with significant renovations including new shelving, cooler repairs and lighting upgrades.

Maggalich apologized for the holiday closure and said the company plans to rehire former employees and resolve outstanding paycheck issues. The license approval allows MGM to operate under corporate ownership through June 30, 2024.
