me in the Pledge of Allegiance Pledge alance to the flag flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for it stands one nation God indivisible with liy and justice for all all right good evening everybody and happy New Year happy New Year decided to start our first meeting for 2025 and next on our agenda is the oath of office which Dr Redmond will present I think have we typically had you stand and then I'll read it and if you want to read along with me great otherwise at the end um I'll have you uh say the the bottom part the I swear that I will support the Constitution together but I'll read the first part stand whatever you whatever whatever your prer SE we do this yeah it's we should clarify that um this is the school board member oath of office um and it reads it is an honor that you were elected or appointed to guide the education of our community's children as you recite the oath of office you assume a tremendous responsibility as a director of our school district with the duties empowered by the Minnesota state legislature this power puts you and other members of our school board in the position of being both morally and legally responsible for Equitable quality education of every student in The District in carrying out this responsibility you'll be asked to fulfill the roles of vision structure accountability and advocacy in providing Vision the board with extensive participation of the community envisions the community's educational future and then formulates the goals defines the outcomes and sets the course for the public schools to achieve the vision the board establishes is a structure and creates an environment designed to ensure all students the opportunity to attain their maximum potential through a sound organizational framework because as a board we must be accountable to the community we must ensure a continuous assessment of student achievement and all conditions affecting the education of our children as board members we serve as education's key Advocates on behalf of students and our community schools to advance the vision for our schools furthermore we must strive to work together with District leadership and staff to lead the district toward fulfilling the vision we have created fostering Excellence for every student in the areas of academic skills and knowledge citizenship and personal development and if you would read the following statement along with me I would appreciate that I swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States of this state and that I will Faithfully discharge the duties of the office of school board member of Independent School District number 720 to the best of my judgment and ability and with that you have all fulfilled the oath as a member of the school board of Shak Public Schools congratulations and more importantly thank you [Applause] next in our agenda is item four the consideration of the agenda as presented I'll make a motion to approve I'll signed up for public comment prior to this evening's meeting we'll move on to the next item on the agenda we move on to the organizational items these are all action items uh this evening starting with item 6.1 election of School Board officers so um we do this every year um I will go down one at a time and uh ask for nominations for each position we need a motion and a second uh or I should say a nomination and a second and then if there is more than one uh person nominated uh then we will vote we'll start with the chair open it up for nominations for the chair J Smith for chair School Board second uh we have a nomination by Peterson and a second by broy do we have any other nominations do we have any other nominations we have any other nominations hearing none uh chair Smith is or Jeff smth is elected by acclamation next up is the office of Vice chair and I would like to nominate Christy Peterson I will second that nomination by Smith and a second by Aldrich are there any other Belz is selected for clerk by acclamation thank you congratulations to our new officers next on our agenda is item 6.2 compensation amounts for the members of the board of education for 2025 as you can see in the description uh the uh uh stien for school board members is $4,500 per year with an additional $500 stien for officers this is the uh the the past amount and uh is proposed as the uh the the same amount going forward just in case anybody knew were that that was the same amount that when when chrisy and I started in 2019 so it hasn't been raised at all and I'd like to make a motion to district funds you see the description there we have Hometown Bank Old National Bank Minnesota school district liquid asset fund plus Min trust uh via PMA Associated Bank OPB trust transactions US Bank bonds Wells Fargo bonds and Harris pcards uh Dr R it's the exact same list as was approved last year I was going to ask that so thank you that and I will comment that this year or last year I abstained from voting on this because I was a trustee for the liquid asset fund plus and my term has expired so I'm no longer trust clarification I will make a motion to approve second a motion by item 6.10 having no local newspaper designation of the website for Shak Public Schools as the record of Public Notices and board meeting information this is different from last year if you remember um Southwest Southwest um thank you yeah sh valy news uh went went out of business uh the legislature gave us the uh permission legally through I think it's August of 26 to post our you know official records uh board board agendas meeting minutes things like that on our website so I didn't realize there was an expiration date on that so we'll have to find in the middle of the Year too yeah it was 18 months I think are you sure it's 26 or is it 20 I'm POS almost positive it's 26 I remember that came up before and I went back in check okay so and Dr was there another media outlet that we were publishing information for there was an interim period of time bur that sounds in a sense this this becomes our yes source of record yeah the expiration and the interesting irony maybe there was somebody receiving a paper copy of the uh I believe it's the Patriot out of Burnsville unlikely most people would we were paying them to publish our stuff in a paper format and then anybody from our community or nearly everyone from our community who would look for that would go to their website online version so U we ultimately ended up with uh by posting it on our website you know for I'm guessing nearly 100% of the people in our community who were looking for that information uh finding it in the same same manner online on our website so we'll see where that goes there's been discussion about expanding that uh to all school districts and um you know there there is a it's a it's a decent cost to that Stu in and have it published in local newspaper so there was a cost savings to us again I would recommend I think it worked really well once we got this up and running and uh you know we have the legal authority to do so and so it seems Seems Brent to do it for calendar year 25 and see what the future brings us and just one more question should someone want a printed copy this information then the district would print and they whatever would be the similar like an information re yes and and again yeah I mean almost all of it we have in the format that's being put there so if somebody wanted a paper copy and I think yeah a good question for me to ask I'm not sure how downloadable it is or how printable it is off our website we can vote kind of the original documents and other things it's common sense I need yep is it is it on the website as a like a p HTML page text or is it a downloadable PDF because if it was a downloadable PDF you would necessarily have to print it unless somebody doesn't have access to right yeah depending on the situation I mean we yeah it depends but we do both ways corre y I was going to say that's a really hard question for me I I'm just I'm looking at right now it's a standard it's a standard web page with I'm ass sure you could put attachments on absolutely y y and Theory can be translated to Tech you from a technology perspective so it's actually more consumable online format I would entertain a motion so this is a change right so as we've discussed previously I think U fairly standard practice you know kind of every in that range of five years uh to to switch some of these things up and this would be one of those and we've certainly appreciate the services of uh R Rose rck rosac and Maloney we've done a nice job we'll still there are some things I'm sure that we'll still reach out to them um and uh we're really excited about the squares walburger and Bas we have used them foric over the past couple of years theyve worked uh uh in early August due to the last two years put on a a presentation and a good conversation and discussion question and answer for our our school resource officers and our building principles and assistant principles with some different changes in terms of uh you know student discipline and how that impacts uh you the new laws impact that type of a service and then the note on the the bottom of this item uh the plan is to have folks from uh squares walsburg and Ace at our January 27th school board meeting to introduce themselves to you and just for to our district as well always good for pressure and then uh so any past or uh current litigation at all that was under the previous uh firm would still they would still own right would typically continue and even you know we even you know we just did those easements for saber fields we actually went back to um the attorneys uh from you know was canes and flint and Deans at the time and Peter Martin did a lot of that property work and so I've reached out to him and we've done property work on areas that he' worked on previously like that saber field because he already has a you know he has a folder he has all the background information he knows what he's doing he's highly qualified rather than bringing somebody brand new in would have to create all of that background material so yep we certainly do as a matter of practice if it if it makes sense and uh you and it typically does if somebody's invested time and energy from a legal standpoint on behalf of our district we typically will continue to work with them definitely on those active matters but sometimes even on things that are very similar so I think it's prudent I think it's financially responsible than sense but we do expect to you know do the bulk of our work with squs walburger and Ma and are really looking forward to it they they're doing a lot of things I think are very proactive you know kind of specifically for school districts and folks in the education world uh in doing and even some of that work like I talked about with sro's and our principls uh they were putting information together for users almost as soon as the legislature was done to help because they know that you know you got 320 is school districts in the state of Minnesota they're going to get a lot of the same questions over and over so they do a really nice job of being proactive on some of those things and trying to put things uh and they got a you know what I would say is a bit of school teacher in them that way where they really feel part of their job is to help inform the people that uh they're going to serve so excited to see that uh you know more deeply over the next couple of years do we need to list out all of the other firms that we have relationships with um we could do it we do not have to we're you know to be honest we don't have to designate a Primary Law Firm I think that's good practice at this meeting uh and you know kind of in full disclosure and the other part even you know the school board chair and superintendent uh are the persons authorized to to contact an attorney we at our leadership team meeting a lot of the the members of that I'm looking at Keith Gray here and Jim mosich they tend to be designes of the superintendent work directly with uh with our preferred Law Firm or our Primary Law Firm and we've got uh squares waldburger and Ma is visiting our leadership team cabinet meeting on next Monday so for some of the same things have I see primary instead of exclusive that just leaves the door open for a long exactly yeah is is there any sort of uh like retainer or anything that goes School Board resolution so this will be a roll call vote uh the designation of superintendent Mike Redmond as the identified official with authority for the mde external user access recertification I don't think you want to authorize uh Dr je Horton as the uh what unless there's something I don't know you might want to ask the board I was hoping he would take care of that for us no we may have uh let Southwest Metro use our form this summer thanks for catching that I appre that that's on the form itself it's a good good catch yeah thank you I thought we had got uh what I was saying Allison Johnson uh does a lot of work in this area as a designate too working with the Department of AD and so she's part of that is that on my copy looks right you just made I just changed it oh you that was fast thanks I just went into look and said it looks good to me um and again it seems like we do this every January and I'm going to keep trying uh and then they Chang something legislatively or mde and we end up redoing it in July to pattern we've done it at least a couple of times but we try to try to do this before it's gets you know it's an annual thing it has to be done we have to S meeting minutes in and we definitely want to keep that up and not be not get that alert email from MD but this basically just just authorizes me to go in and make sure we got the right people in the right carries item 6.15 adoption of the online District policy Library sh this should be near dear to your heart unless you want to do it offline no no okay were any of you on the board when we still had the three ring binders of all the policies I I received it as a gift as a matter of fact from a previous policy chair big purple binder those yeah actually I was remembering it as purple as well yes I saw it but I I didn't have to actually work with it so and we were reconciling paper copies with the the red line in the different versions yes yes I think Angela helped list that as well yes thankfully we that's not that long ago thankfully we no longer come along way you Dr the team put that together and it's just nice that they're out there uh for the public to see to full transparency two days later not have except if it's a holiday because in Theory juneth actually I think it's a Thursday this year so POS like it would be the so it should be two business days later well you know we used to have Saturday Retreats true we don't do that anymore we have it during on a Monday night like night so that technically wouldn't be applicable if we still at Saturday I think I'm thought it you're saying move it to a Thursday I'm just saying two business days later in case it happens to be Cas that Wednesday happens to be a holiday which would move it to a Thursday correct which then we could the reason we did this is because we have to do the 72 hours notice so if we're canceling a meeting and we know that a Wednesday is a holiday or a non- meeting day we would we could them meet the 72-hour notice I had I just thought of that now or we could or we could add language to your you know I just want to make sure that it's not just two two days I I think adding the language because conceptually a Thursday could also be a day in which you can't conduct business so instead of two days do two business days two business yeah do that what's the weather threshold for the school board is it similar to the school district great question never had that issue we've never that's good we're only talking it doesn't snow anymore we're only talking about a smaller number of very experienced drivers and they would the storms have had time to clear and so it is a probably a higher threshold U but let me do we has anybody done a motion or anything of this yet so are we okay if we uh change this to two business days later later and then probably just delete on Wednesday just cover I like it no that's a good that's a good suggestion all right so I will reread it with a new meeting because we won't be meeting here for a long time if this burns down and we're going to communicate where we're at too so anything that doesn't fit within this these parameters that would just subject us to the requ to notify 72 hours prior so like that's already a catch all so I don't think it's okay I just thought before we got too far and then I Joe you had made the motion and then second any further discussion seeing none all those in favor I I oppose motion carries item 6.17 uh use the 2025 IRS mileage rate as the mileage reimbursement rate for ISD 720 uh the IRS mileage accept I I I'd rather I'm I'm good with wherever you go but I'd rather that was a previous board that approved this oh that's yeah that's an excellent not the 202 good how I'll make a motion to we'll do a little walk through of of that format what that looks like and we did talk about it briefly at our leadership team meeting again with you know where like Keith is you know does the agenda for the Personnel committees and to make sure that we're kind of synced up and uniform and people know where to look and find and even if you're not on one committee you can look at the work and the agendas of the other committees so more on that to come and in and that leads us to the next uh U meeting item which is an information item 7.1 the committee appointments for 2025 so we're just discussing these at this point um and uh I emailed earlier today uh the spreadsheet which is in the the the link that Dr reman just showed on there for the uh the committee assignments the parent folder of that contains that spreadsheet that I emailed the link out to so it is it is online um that's the current committee assignments the uh the website for The District I don't think was updated for 2024 so those are uh those are out of date on the public facing website but that um um the the link to the spreadsheet I emailed has the current assignments and they're listed on your print out in the the board book the um so like not everything I I I think this is actually missing um spreadsheet here so like bright works is not oh no that's on there never mind okay maybe it's maybe it's fully inclusive um yeah if I'm missing anything on that spreadsheet let me know we'll add a line for it um we can discuss here if you like if anybody has questions about anything um but um what we've done in years past is um each of you just just send me an email with your uh your wish list of your um of your your subcommittees and then your liaison committees that you would like to participate in uh there's a couple that are are kind of um uh just like built in based on your your role like uh like Joe is automatically on the the finance and Facilities committee and is also on the uh the uh the financial advisory committee uh just by his role as treasure um and then as the chair I'm I'm on both finance and Personnel um you know that's not a requir not okay that's your choice good point thank you um so uh anyone have any thoughts or questions right now while we're we have the topic of and Nick we didn't have a chance to talk to this I have U served on the finance facility Committee in fact there used to be two and we merg them just because the subject matter was similar um and I've been in that role now um for a number of years but you given your professional career and things that that might be something that you find of value I know that you given been great with the district advisory Council as well so we don't have to decide today if that's something of interest uh that um committee meets uh usually once a month the second meeting of the month at 5 o' before the typical Monday board meeting of that same day so give it some thought if have questions certain out to if nobody asks or requests to be in one of these groups you assign we'll we'll have to discuss that I'll probably reach out and you know and you know if you send me a wish list and with just like one subcommittee and and I and there's still a vacancy on another I may just reach out to you individually and say hey we really need another person on this subcommittee would you be willing something that so and the subcommittee assignments AR I mean if they I think de meets three or four times a year right so and policy you know maybe once a quarter so there there aren't you know not a lot of rigor around a lot of that and some of these sub committees you know you're more of a lison role so again we can if there's a couple that you feel of an interest we could have a couple board members kind of tag teams one isn't available the other one can attend kind of thing it's kind of like um Southwest Metro is a another board just like this so it is very um time commitment it's once a month plus committees just like you have on a regular school board because it is a regular school district um we do have somebody that is an alternate in case the representative cannot attend that way your district has representation at the meeting um there's a it's a board of 11 there's 11 member districts so it's always nice to make sure that we have a voice representing your local District at the table someone can't be there and people are really good about that making sure they find the substitute to come but we always have somebody that is designated as an alternate so that way they get the communications and kind of material I think the only other thing that I would point out is from a board committee standpoint when I join the board and maybe board doesn't feel this way but typically the finance and Facilities um the treasure and the chair typically are on that because as a chair you should be over you know helping with the financial responsibility of the district as well even though it's not a requirement that was something that I was told every year is the treasure so this is the sth year the treasure the chair has been on the uh committee are year right reie and then you and then Jeff um yeah then I'll add that um especially for the Liaisons um since we don't we usually don't have to worry about uh uh a quorum violations uh there's nothing stopping you from attending any of these uh even if you're not the designated liaison so you can go to the amsd meetings and the msba meetings which are very formative um and you know to participate in in anything you're interested in you're always welcome any uh any further discussion on that item when do you want this back in um yeah good question so the next meeting is three weeks from tonight so um if you could get these back to me in the next two weeks um and then um I'll I'll collect everything together in in two weeks and then just see where where any vacancies or any conflicts are because if if we've got you know four people wanting to be on a board with three a subcommittee with three positions we'll we'll have to deconflict that so we'll we'll have a week to work that out so i' appreciate it in two weeks if you can and I'll send out a a friendly reminder if I hav't heard from you I appreciate that all right with that we'll move on to the next item on our agenda item 8.1 crisis and safety planning General School Board update here to present is Jim mosich the assistant superintendent and Kon Christensen our district crisis and safety coordinator Cher Smith Dr R members of the board thank you for for having us for another of our regular updates on where the district crisis and safety team are I'm fortunate to be here with K Christenson tonight who will as usual be sharing many of the just a reminder sorry I wasn't sure who I was looking at we agree we agree um just a quick reminder on the right hand side you can see uh the core members of our crisis and safety team on the left hand side you can see the meeting schedule that we follow we have a we have quarterly core team meetings followed by quarterly um meetings of representatives from each of our buildings and then each building had also has a quarterly meeting um to talk about uh crisis and safety within their building and we're fortunate this year with Canon on board that he can be at every building meeting um which is uh you know something I was unable to do when you consider there's there's 10 different sites in our district and they're they're meeting four times a year and having him there to provide continuity and and consistency has been a very nice upgrade to what we've been doing wanted to to take a moment to acknowledge the capital projects Levy one of the things that we talked about throughout the levy was the Safety and Security measures that um are funded through that Levy uh number one cyber security and all the work that Brian Rose and his team do everything from the softwares that we we purchased to keep our networks and our students safe to the the many people that we employ to make sure that our information systems are are as secure as they could possibly be and then you can see um that particular Levy um funds everything from the key card entry that you use to get into the building to how we screen our volunteers the over 700 cameras that we have in our buildings across the district bones walkies door buzzer systems so we can't thank the community enough for our ability to continue to have our our our sites be as safe as they possibly be on a on a daily basis and with that I'm going to turn it over to to Canon we'll talk a little bit about some of the work the crisis and safety team has been engaged in this year thank you thank you for having me um what's on the board right now is just we'll go I got a couple of deeper slides that are easier to read but this is kind of something that you you might see in our schools or hear more talk about we use the I love you guys Foundation as our standard response protocol or SRP what we've seen over the summer and as schools started here around the the State when using the verbage of the standard response protocol it's often referred to as lockdowns um a local school had two unidentified males on their roof and the paper reported that they would into a lockdown when it comes down to it and you read into it more you found out there in is secure a secure means that there's no change inside the building kids are in the classroom kids are at lunch um activities inside the building is unaffected a lockdown to me and to our training is locks Lights Out of Sight right where we're hiding from a threat inside the building so we really wanted to from a Shak standpoint emphasize that if something happens we're not necessarily in a lock down so we've emphas emphasized our two main you can hit the next slide please the two main type of of drills or things we do is a hold in a secure a hold is simply something going on inside the building um generally speaking a medical or something else where we want to bring in maybe paramedics or assist a student in the hall or a student who in crisis that we need to deal with and we just want the rest of the kids to stay in the classroom so we can put the the building or even a section of a building into a hole um and then a secure a secure means everything is fine inside the building and something is going on outside the building where either the shock police or somebody else has said hey why don't you lock your building down for a minute while we take care of what's outside the building so both those two there's no threat inside the building activity is normal business as usual inside a building so that previous poster you saw with this slide is going up it's this one is in all the the office areas so so it has the verbiage on it so if they need to call a hold they're all using the same verbiage on how to call a hold and let the school know that we're in a hold and then we have the lock down is way at the bottom locks Lights Out of Sight and the only time we're using that lock down verbage is when we're in a lockdown lock slids out of sight if I can take a moment the the two unidentified men on the roof were were roofers uh they probably should have checked in at the office before they went up and that's school did in fact make the the news Metro Wide because they've been in a lockdown that day over two unidentified people on the roof who really were never identified as roofers it was more of something I asked the superintendent when I bumped into him what's up with people on your roof h well you know they're roofers makes sense and if if our parents and our our families know this language right when when my sonim calls me from his high school and says Dad we're in a secure knowing this language I say cool get off your phone go back back to class everything is fine inside your school right something is going on outside your build and and that's not a hypothetical it's not that happened a couple months ago so we really want to emphasize that our hold and our secure are not lock Downs if we go on to a hold in our secure or a hold in one of our schools we don't want the media saying that we're in a lockdown we don't want we're going out we're locked down we're in a hold a hold means that it's business as usual for most of the kids in the building so that is this poster that's out now is in the offices it's by the intercom system it's in the teachers lounges coming out next will be a public facing version of this very similar but it will not have the the intercom verbage and that poster can go in the hallways outside the gyms um stuff like that where the the parents and other people visiting our building the students we'll be able to see that and understand what this verbage means when we hear it some question um how does this impact um activities outside of the normal 8 to3 or 9 to four regular school day so basketball game or football game baseball game sure well coming out another thing we're working on is a a after school activity crisis manual right so we can referred to if we're having a um band concert and they get a a bomb threat so so to speak what is their protocol when they're in the building and that crisis manual refer to this and these will still be in play because our Police Department is using the same language too so if the police department calls and says if you're in the building I need you on a secure then the basketball team's going to know we need to lock the and stay inside the building until we get the clear so will the coaches then be trained in that manual as well or they be given that manual is part of their responsibility as a coach for a team whether they're an employee or not because there are coaches that yes that manual everybody that's in charge of an after school activity will have access to that manual what Canon is working on um you know we talk a lot about facility rentals and we're fortunate to do a number of those this the the document that he's working on will be electronically transferred to anybody who's responsible for a facility rental so if you're the if you've rented our space for a for a dance competition at the high school you'll receive a copy of this manual um as part of your materials when you sign your contract going forward so it'll be um you know because it's it's pretty much one manual no matter what the site is it's the same set of processes in procedures so we'll make sure that anybody who is on site in the future will have access to this well they have to sign saying that acknowled that I've received this document and I've read it and understand part of the rental agreement yes it would be one of those fake digital signatures I mean I'm just thinking you know somebody that get this could say okay yeah I got that that's fine but then something happens right then who's responsible is the school district or is it the person that's renting and if there isn't an acknowledgement of the information then that could be Troublesome yes Jim you took my question so we must have had for the Star Trek fans the vcan might not been going um and uh sha not to put you on the spot but I have a question in terms of school like student representation is this language familiar to you do you think there's an opportunity to communicate this more broadly among your peers I me like completely honest I haven't paid a lot of attention to this Gage and the actual know prow of the W and I doubt other students we and everything teachers do a pretty good job um when we know that it's a drill day and a drill will happen and do a good job exp what to the expectations um it's never been a problem as far as I the only thing that I would point out and you guys can probably Che is the self service at school and that just be and from a student perspective I would like to see if they hear on an intercom yeah we have a hold going on in the the ninth grade Wing I want students to say it's just a whole doesn't concern me go back to what I'm doing right and that's the spirit I was asking the question so that it doesn't create unnecessary you know concern oh it's it's a whole you take it seriously but it's not you know there's different levels of severity and I would give a lot of the credit to the teachers that they do an incredible job of explaining explaining the situation everybody control I Tim your Point's a really good point that Clarity is important there was a district early this year literally it's like three times in a week their news media said they were in a lock down they were never in a lockdown right they were in a secure they were concerned there was something going on outside the building I think they might have been in a hold once but think of oh my gosh things are really unsafe at that school nothing had actually happened at the school or in the school they were taking precautions to lock the exterior because something was going on a police chase or whatever at East just this fall with the plane yeah and that was on Facebook like in seconds and people say lock down lock down everybody assumes the worst and like as a parent it's super scary to to when have St comes out and I'll tell you what they did in the school is in the school they went on a hole right away as soon as they heard it go on a hold BR all the students in place right and they established it was outside the building it wasn't a threat to the school and they immediately changed their hold to a secure just kep that side of lock down why they and the reality is 7500 students and the number of medical challenges kids face our buildings go on holes on a regular basis because if the students having say a seizure the last thing we want to do is have them leave on a gie in front of their peers so that the simple thing to do is hey we're going on a hold for five minutes we we safely keep the student out of the building so that there are no Witnesses and that student can return to school the next day and doesn't have to answer 10 questions for their friends so the the frequency of a hold is High I mean it's and but at the same time it's a it's a very good thing because our students recognize that all right we just keep working here in the classroom all you know whatever needs to be taken care of is so we talked a lot about high school middle school what about the elementary how do you communicate this to an elementary age student in it's the same thing and they practice so we have to do five I'm going to use the state's terminology the state techology is we do five lock down drills a year right that includes hold drills and secured drills so they do holds as part of their regular drill practice most of the schools have already done at least two hold drills this year and at least one secure drill so they're practicing what these hold and secure drills look like and it's kind of I mean from an emergency standpoint if you're in your classroom the teacher the the principal says we are now on a hold drill well that's not actually changing anything for me in my classroom I just need to hold here not go to the playground until the drill's over right so that's kind of getting that but that gives the teachers the those drills give the teachers the time to explain what a hold is why we're doing it something's going on so even from those the first Pier even doing hold drills and secur drills at their facility to to train the kids they have the same poers we're ready it's not a choice we don't get to choose when planes land somewhere else yeah but but we react to it and and we move forward and um overall like that incident went went pretty well from a a school standpoint so then we have reunification so last year in June we did the school walk through the reunification went very well we're making some small changes to that updating some signage um small stuff that we see or that comes up at at different schools that they learn from it nothing huge as far as that goes um our we new staff members are coming on as new staff members come on especially to the district office we'll train them on our unification policy so they can uh join our reunification response team and hit the hit the ground running when they join us so they'll be ready to go if we need them our next step is to build out our response at the Shak Community Center the Shak Community Center is the site that if we need to evacuate the high school for any reason we'll go to the Shak Community Center the challenge there is that our high school has a large amount of students and the community center is although the largest building in Shaka nearby it even has a hard time holding that many so we're working on that um in the next couple weeks we're meeting with our Response Team um some of the leaders of our Response Team over at the community center to kind of walk through it I have the paper plans are out they have the plans in their hands but now when we do the walk through they'll be able to see it right and walk where a parent would walk and we can decide will this work will this not work and try to come up with the finalized plan of how the community center would work if we needed to evacuate to there one of the one of the other pieces that we discovered in working at the community center is at Southwest Metro that I know um you're the board chair of by Cher Peterson they're they're actually looking at building out a reunification site at our community Center as well so now um I actually happened to be at the high school today as was Dr Redmond and we bumped into their safety person um and he was there planning with with Canon and you know we're definitely going to collaborate with them um and we're also you know really wanting to start we would call a Scott County collaborative around safety we know Prior Lake has a position similar to this um Southwest Metro Jordan um and du Craig have all expressed an interest in getting reunification plans up and given that the Scott County Sheriff dep Department recognizes the I love you guys as the official reunification method um you know for any crisis involving any agency um we we definitely want to start to share resources and make sure that we're not duplicating efforts because for example for Southwest Metro to build out a reunification plan is really foolish when we have one that's fully operational and essentially they just need to plug people into it they're looking at using space and shoing piece so we're going to make sure that we collaborate with them and again you know really try to pull the count together so that um the folks that we're working with at Scott County um have a central place to go to share information and ask questions Jim I just want to be clear Southwest Metro there's a strong likelihood that they'll use our high school as that reunification site because that's where we've done all that work we are heading in that direction of of having Southwest Metro's reification site be the high school simply because um with us controlling the high school it's there there's fewer variables and if we were to try to get into Center I mean yes we still need a place for our high school to reunify and at the same time our high school is just a better space for anyone to use when I was talking to him today is why would he spend months building out a whole plan when we already have the whole plan sitting at the high school right thanks for so with respect to the community center K you can't plan what these things are going to happen y would there ever be an event and I'm picturing you know 83 where the community center has some other event taken place where they now are no longer in the capacity to be a reunification Center is there a called an alternate site there is not and our um our agreement with the city as of right now is that if we need to evacuate the high school for whatever reason the community center is ours and my meeting with him is understand that I know I'm going to have some old ladies with treadmills mad at me right and but they understand that and they understand that if our if our high school evacuates that becomes a community event right that's going to be something that affects the whole community and they're they're accepting that will now help that's and I Logistics are an issue I'm just and I'm I'm thinking out L I know Friendship Church has a really big building that stre but now you're working with a different Community partner and you don't necessarily have access to that building that would be a whole different plan using the city resources and that's a strong partnership that Mak sense I just yeah been thinking out loud in terms of not having to manage all of that this Friday this Friday for instance the whole gym is going to be full of people at the community center yeah so so it's just it's weighting back y question maybe know the answer but one of the three higher threat levels is ever does take place how's that communicated to parents and others systems that we all get districtwide Communications that the same type of communication that can be used to let people know what's going on yeah it all depends on the situation um and the environment so depending on the situation on how they communicate that and who so it's building specific thing they would send it out just to the family or just to the local to that school in particular but if it if it's a high school going to the community center that would obviously affect the whole community so the message would be bigger any any time of going goes in any level even a hold I receive a phone call immediately I let Mike know I collaborate with tiffon work with building Administration mess one other question you started with eight here here's the group that you know makes up the whole safety security team the quarterly meetings are there also quarterly meetings or some rhythm with our Community Partners shock PD fire right is that all happening in kind of those those same rhythms because it's sound a lot like it was inside Shaka walls principles and and our staff but how frequently are we you know uh well I mean most frequently I work in an office you know with one of our SRO so he's relating that you may have some directly by the way if you're ever in the high school stop by and see the new the new paint job and some students are putting up some signage for us that is awesome with our our safety Resource Center we're calling it now so but uh yeah any we also meet with uh there's SRO and their Captain joins some of these safety meetings and I got a meeting coming up in another few weeks with the fire department to make sure we're on the same page with fire drills and stuff like that so I'm in regular communication with Captain nor who supervises their SRO um we also take part um last year we were the only School District in Scott County that took part in um Scott County was doing crisis planning down down in Jordan at their um I forget what that place is called scale scale Training Center so we're we're regularly involved with all of our partners City County I mean it's just it's very important to keep those relationships fresh and make sure that we're all communicating about what each other's needs you just want to make sure they're not washing the fire trucks to right and I the presumption was that line of communication was there I just didn't see it in the open thank you next our is an action item item 9.1 consideration of approval for a clerical employees contract here to present is Keith Gray Director of Human Resources hi good evening so our clerical bargaining unit has approved this contract so this is being presented to you all this evening um the wages uh there were no increases in terms of the actual wage schedule but there was a $700 um proposal $700 lumpsum payment for year one and no change in health insurance for year one year one would be this year uh next year would be year two for this particular contract this also happens to be the last contract this cycle so there will be a new cycle coming up soon for some of you they going to be at the Personnel committee but um then in year two what this group um de decided to do was alter the Mage schedule and re I guess I didn't mean replace in terms of take people out of the most but that replace word is replace theyve decided to place people in different locations on the salary schedule so that's what they did in year two and then for their health insurance they established a particular rate that they wanted to um have for single and family and they verged family and the employee plus one as one particular contribution from the district that all came down to a settlement of 7.31 which is the same that you've approved for many of the contracts as particular site so if there's any questions I'd be happy to answer so the $700 it didn't matter how for how long they've worked here or what their previous wage was it was just for everyone yes and how many people are part of this roughly should have got that number I think roughly about 50 or so this group it's not a large group there I'll motion to approve
