all all right welcome everyone next item on the agenda is item three our saber Pride it's always the best part of our meetings um item 3.1 is the best of the best 2024 Awards and with us to present is Jim crich our assistant superintendent thank you very much [Music] uh louder [Music] please [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right take two uh so in the 20 2024 best of the best public Elementary School category Eagle Creek Jackson and Sweeney Elementary were all finalists as were both East and West Middle Schools this is the fourth year in a rle that we have had elementary schools and both middle schools selected as finalists uh we are also very pleased to share that theem of Shaka High School uh was in fact named The Best of the Best in area high schools um uh there were over 20 uh according to the the fast provided by the best of the best 25,500 votes were cast for business organizations and more than 1,000 nominations in 78 category so we are very pleased and excited with the work that our teacher our teachers staff and students do every day and we are honored to have been recognized with these best of the best Awards think that's foruse that's great thank you uh next on our agenda is item 3.2 the association of school business officials International uh certificate of excellence and financial reporting and with us to present is Dr Redmond I don't get a cool video I just get a side certificate which not quite as good but uh really really great effort again from uh our finance department and director Bill maazi the association of school business officials International uh as everything has to have an acronym we call them asbo and then it's in Minnesota we call them asbo we're really creative like that uh but they recently awarded Shak Public Schools a certificate of excellence in financial reporting for the fiscal year ended 2023 take some time after that to kind of do all the calculations and nomination and get get people for that award and I should point out that is the uh fourth consecutive year that the district has has received this uh certificate of excellence in financial reporting which is really cool uh it's a significant achievement and it reflects a commitment to transparency and high quality financial reporting uh congratulations to Bill maazi and to his entire team who have all you know each of them all of them have contributed mightily to uh doing a great job in providing high quality uh financial reporting and uh accounting for our school district so a really cool award Bill's not here to be honor he doesn't seek praise like that so when we said we were doing the certificate he said he's not no that's great news thank you next on our agenda is item four the consideration of the agenda as presented so second we have a no one has signed up for public comment prior to this evening's meeting we'll move on on to the next item on the agenda next on our agenda is our information portion of the evening evening item 6.1 is Pearson Early Learning Center Early Childhood special education student support and learning with us to present is uh Julie Fred director of special services and Julie Ritter Pearson Early Learning Center administrator welcome thank you welcome try to multitask hello members of the board and superintendent Redman and our assistant superintendent Jim it's a pleasure to be here tonight um apologize I was an original scheduled to be here in March and found myself six so yeah so I'm really glad that we were able to reschedule our time here so that the Julie here we could um present on our early childhood special education programs so starting of course with our District's compelling Vision um which we um strive every day to make sure that we are implementing these or that we are implementing system systems and programs to meet our District's compelling Vision so our learning targets for tonight will be to I help you or identify the scul of services that are available to our families from birth to kindergarten um help you develop an understanding of the importance of early intervention services to a child's development and preparing them for their future learning how we do that and then um connecting our services to our District's compelling vision I put this slide first um because I feel that the innovations that we are implementing within our early childhood special education programs really exemplify what our compelling vision is about these are State Innovations pyramid model um you've likely heard information about that whether it's the website or previous um previous presentations that we've made the pyamid model is implemented birth through um birth through age five however focused in our 3 to five programs our special education programs and new to us this year is the equip event uh equip Innovation for our birth to three early intervention team equi standing for evidence-based quality Innovation practices through these State Innovations we really are reflecting on our systems um frequently to ensure that that um we are maintaining high expectations and that our systems are serving all of our students um through the pyramid model our focus is on uh the social emotional skill development of our students our staff are knowledgeable on Intervention strategies through a multi-tiered system of support to meet those social emotional skill development needs as well as intervention strategies to support them in whatever they may be experiencing throughout their day and through our early um through the equip Innovation for our early intervention team it's really focusing on Family Center practices in natural learning environments using a coaching model and I will explain a little bit more about what that's about as well one of the um one of the uh pieces about these innovations that is unique is that Fidelity of practice all of our staff are coached in each of these different Innovations not only are they coached but they have to meet Fidelity in implementing those in these Innovations whether it's pyramid model or equip and we report that to the state one of the cool things about the pyramid model is how it really sets kids up to go into kindergarten where they start to implement developmental designs and it is just kind of seamless it's not the same program but a lot of the same practices are place of course our P Pearson Early Learning Center um where we have Consolidated our early childhood programming each of these although looking independent here really function as one as one system um supporting each other throughout um all of the different programs where we embed our special education services into each and every one of these so early childhood special education really comes in in two parts the first is part C which is really about a family's journey in special education this is a program that serves children birth to age three we develop a family plan a family service plan it's family and caregiver focused we used a primary service provider model and I'll explain what that's about in a bit next comes Part B I know federal government right part C then Part B um Part B is about the child child's educational Journey it serves those children in speal in early childhood special education from age three to kindergarten of course Part B continues up through their Elementary and secondary school years as well we develop an individual education plan for those students the focus becomes more child centered and education focused where we offer um services that are full inclusion to Center based Help Me Grow is Minnesota system for referrals for special education for our early childhood students children that are birthed to age five this really is the start of many families journey in special education it's also our responsibility it's called child find our district is responsible for reaching out in finding this the children in our community who would be eligible for services and then providing those services so right now as of April 2nd when I did last count our school district from July 1st which is the beginning of our calendar for our birth um our early intervention services team we've received 210 Help Me Grow referrals from our community and have processed those so we'll continue receive them on an ongoing basis and child finded something that is our responsibility all the way from birth to age 22 when they can graduate from transition Help Me Grow helps with the kids who haven't entered preschool yet because we don't have access to them so that's how we get a lot of that information yeah so our part C individual family service plan it really is the family is in the family takes the lead here we take the family's lead in developing those Services they receive a primary coach and all of the different support practitioners that that child may need whether it's occupational therapy Physical Therapy speech um de and heart of hearing services we are responsible for providing those services for those children we do that by providing services in a variety of different settings home visiting is the primary space where we provide services to our children who are birth to age three or it might be in an ECFE or early childhood family education classroom it might be at that child daycare wherever that child is spending time that is where our service providers are it can even be and agreed upon Community location during the summer that's even sometimes our community Parks so our purpose though is to develop to develop the skills of those who are spending time with their children giving them the capacity to help their student develop in the skills that have been identified as needing support caregivers are the center with children learning through daily routines in their natural environments and it is really it's fun to experience that to go into the homes with our practitioners why we do this the earlier we can find those children and provide those Services provide those interactions and help those adults help their students um the better those the better prepared those children will be for the next step of their educational Journey and there is a summary of those benefits there one of the other um pieces that is important to our Early Intervention Program how we support our school district in a benefit is developing those relationships with the families that will be ongoing for them as they continue with their educational Journey with us at a child's third birthday we need to prepare them for their part B Services an evaluation is held to determine what that child's um what needs they have um what skills need to be developed in order for them to be classroom and school ready as they enter kindergarten we do that many of our students come through the transition to part c um right now we're at about um we have approximately 41 students who are coming into Part B through that we also receive students through help gr referrals Early Childhood screening to dat we've had 72 referrals through Early Childhood screening for 3 to five Services through teacher referral we've had to 26 referrals just from our preschool program located at Pearson Early Learning Center we've had 14 referrals from our Community Partners such as our daycare centers our private schools in our community and we've had 12 referrals from parents we often often find ourselves working with students who have had limited success in other settings in our community another way that we serve our our students um in Part B of course it is educational need driven we provide their services through Center based programs through full inclusion in our Stepping Stones classrooms and inclusion with additional opportunities for pull out most of our services are embedded within the classroom so whether they're receiving occupational therapy physical therapy spe we embed it within their program that day often going into their classrooms to provide those Services again making sure that we are meeting our students where their need is we want them to have as much time with their peers as possible so we refrain from trying to pull them out for services but want to push in our services again preparing them for the next step of their educational Journey the benefits of course those foundational skills for their school environment having them their ready having them ready for the next stage of their educational Journey which is coming soon for our four-year-olds kindergarten transition to kindergarten is where we are finding ourselves um at Pearson right now uh spending time is preparing students and families for this trans important transition to kindergarten so that they have seamless a seamless flow of services from our buing building to the elementary schools in our in our um school district and of course whether it's our Littles or our students in who are attending our preschool programs our focus is on that student learning at all times I forget anything Miss Julie no I don't think so um it's just it's really amazing to see them start from in the home to move it into the preschool and then into kindergarten and often times that early intervention means that they don't qualify for more service which is a good thing because that means their needs have been met we've been able to work with the family we've been able to give the students the skills and then they don't need special education service going into kindgarten a lot of them do and then we service them until they don't or until they're 22 y y we are able to dismiss a number of children especially um as we head into January through the end of the school year um will propose a re-evaluation to families to dismiss children from Services because they had that that early start in in um in early intervention services so um questions for us Mr chair um so it's it's great to get a perview like we often Overlook the littles so just the amount of effort uh and time it takes so except some work in that space for the definition of caregiver does that extend to say an inhome daycare because I might be a parent watching my kids or maybe handle neighbor kids and those resources are they available um and that's yeah um they can be to an inhome daycare provider in birth to three yes um although uh most of our attention is focused on the center-based um programs in our community as much as possible we try to work with our um work with the parents in in if their child is receiving in home daycare services but yes Services can extend to that primary caregiver and the basis for the question is the consistency right because if the goal is to find you know that there is no intervention needed right that's the success of the program that if the community has the same resources and they you know can certainly reach out it just LS itself to that H3 and and above yeah our goal is always to be able to work with the parent instead of a different caregiver but if that's who's with that student or that child for the majority of the day and they can help build those skills that's who we want to reach up to who we want to work with thank you I just have one I just want to make one comment um um I just want to thank Julie Ritter jul bizar is that but I just want to thank Julie for everything that you've done uh with our early Learners um in your time with the district I know that you are retiring at the end of this school year and so I think you came on board while I've been on the school board and went through some U planning together for Central and what are we going to do with that place and um uh it was fun to get to know you through that process and and then through other things as well so congratulations on your retirement and thank you for everything that you've done for our kids in our district and to get them off to the right start thank you tii it's been a great adventure I have enjoyed working for the shy school district very much and it is definitely with a heavy heart but I'm excited for what Adventure GL as well thank you very much okay thank you very much time so next on our agenda is item 6.2 an introduction of Sarah Molen future Pearson Early Learning Center administrator and uh we have Sarah here with us welcome and and Jim to present yeah no thank you uh chair Smith so uh given that we had Early Learning here this evening to to talk a little bit about programming we also thought that it would be a a good opportunity to introduce you to to Sarah Molen who will be taking over at Pearson Early Learning Center next year just a little bit about Miss Molen uh she comes to us from Bloomington um uh and and from blooming and prior to Bloomington she was also an even between those two districts she has over 25 years of experience in early childhood education and her personal education includes a master's of arts and Ed leadership and a specialist degree in elementary education from Minnesota state Mano as well as a bachelor's degree from Wisconsin Stout so as grateful as we are for the the work that Julie Ritter has done for us over the years we are also um fortunate and pleased tonight to introduce you to miss S I am so honored I wrote a few words so that I made sure I covered everything I wanted to say tonight and following in the footsteps of Julie is really a big um set of shoes to fill and so I'm just I cannot be more honored so good evening my name is Sarah Molen and it is a pleasure to be here early childhood education is my love and my passion and I live it every day I believe that the early years are the most important in a child's life and as you heard from the other two jubilees a lot of work to be done and so I am ready and willing I'm overjoyed and honored to join the Early Learning team and serve young children families staff in the shaki public schools and the surrounding Community because as we know um Partnerships and and working together in the community and Beyond of our um surrounding um communities as well it's important as the next administrator of Pearson Early Learning Center I bring with me my years of experience in public education stemming from both of my parents extensive Elementary teaching careers um multiple degrees in licensing um from stout and Mano and I am just a lifelong learner I can't stop learning and I want to um continue that journey and I'm just thrilled that it's here uh a bit about myself personally I live in Bloomington with my husband and our two daughters our standard poodle and a large aquarium full of all sorts of creatures that we like to add to um I desire to be a leader who is a warm demander and what that means to me is setting high expectations while at the same time being empathetic and caring and so I believe you can balance both of those things together to be a warm demander um people have described me as a positive collaborator a solution Seeker a relator and an advocate for young children and that's what I wake up every day wanting to do I'm very impressed with the opportunities that Shaka schools already provides for students of all ages thank you for including Early Childhood in all of those things and as I join this District team I look forward to what the future holds I am committed to carry on the current high quality educational experiences as well as dream and mold the untapped potential opportunities out there still thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to working together with you thanks uh Sarah we'll start on July 1 we we hope to have her our Leadership Retreat retreat in June so that she can start working with the rest of our team and we're just extremely pleased to have her welcome next on our agenda is item 6.3 uh tato Learning Center student learning in action and with us to present is Eric servis the TLC principal and Michelle Edon teacher welcome good evening chairman Smith and members of the board like you mentioned I'm here with Michelle Edon one of our TLC teachers and one of our students um Alexandri ws and we're here to share some updates regarding the TLC this last year and um focus on a few things related to our District's compelling Vision before we begin um just to ground Us in kind of the TLC's General approach to learning um you know the TLC is an alternative schooling option for high school students in Shak um ensuring that all students have an opportunity to be successful at their High School experience and to do that work in a much smaller learning environment um takes sometimes a different approach to working with students and so these are kind of the pillars that that we do our work from um believing that stories matter we invite vulnerability we challenge barriers we work to discover student strengths and um celebr every step of the journey with our students which is in very close alignment to the district's compelling Vision which is coming up pretty shortly um what we'd like to talk about and highlight just tonight is um more specific ways of how we do that work regarding supporting students um and provide you with some concrete examples of that uh Michelle's going to speak um about our TLC pathway sequence which is kind of an alignment to um The Academy model at sh High School um going to talk a little bit about the map Stars program which is aligned to developing agency with students and then alexavier is going to kind of share his story a little bit which will provide a Capstone for kind of this presentation on what it's like um to be a student who had a foot in a traditional High School model and then um is now Alterna model so um back to that compelling Vision um tonight's content kind of ties in very closely to those those pillars about unwavering support for each one of our student Learners and how important it is to develop agency with students um so if I could talk a little bit more about that unwavering support um you know the TLC obviously is a much smaller learning environment which afford US an opportunity to really um get to know our students and their families at a much deeper level um and it starts with very comprehensive um intake process in fact Michelle I think had one this afternoon and every quarter we generally get an influx of of students you know sometimes five sometimes 15 um that we on board in a very strategic way meetings usually last an hour to an hour and a half um personalized learning plan is built um that tries to really tailor the student experience to what the student needs um and so right now we're actually going through that process as we um flip the script to quarter 4 and so we'll get a fresh group students starting tomorrow at the TLC and we also wrap around a lot of support through our advisory model which students meet with an advisor once a day um this year our focus in our advisory model is to integrate some of the DD Concepts along with um some progress monitoring and academic support and so like this year every Monday is really a community building day in advisory Tuesdays and Thursday are progress monitoring days where advisor sit down with students do some short-term goal settings some mid-range goal setting talk about attendants some all those other things that are just kind of the nuts and bolts of continuing to make progress in school Wednesday at the TLC is a day in which we do circles and these are um intentional strategic conversations to build community and also capacity with our students um with some social emotional Concepts um and then on Fridays we have an all school activity which is intended to kind of blend all of our advisors into some common shared experiences that are oftentimes fun and and more game likee and so advisory is kind of one of our our core um ways or processes that that we support students in their progress the alignment to that is we progress monitor every three weeks you know a typical Traditional High School which is on semesters or blocks is a N9 we term um and it is kind of make or break you're there at the Finish Line at the end of nine weeks or you're not you know our model like we talked about last year is much more responsive every three weeks reviewing every student's progress and we're kind of going through an intervention process to just make subtle tweaks to meet students over there to try to maximize that engagement um sometimes it's raising the bar for accountability sometimes it's finding different ways to support it's really tailored to the student um which also um gets some support from our mtss system um we work very closely with the high school on how they rolled out their mtss model and so we have a very um say similar model in fact it's same nuts and bolts that the same systems and um and so that is right now in year two focusing in on tier three interventions um what I want to highlight out of this though is really kind of the approach you know we talked about kind of our vision how we we try to do things with a little different vibe or feeling and one of the ways we do that is really through collaborative problem solving and you know we have the luxury in a small setting where with an outstanding team that can really help dial in this philosophy and interventions when there are struggles or challenges it's usually not just the advisor or the counselor trying to problem solve it is a team approach um for example this last conferences um instead of doing cafeteria conferences everybody stop in talk to the teachers we were you know we targeted some students we really wanted to um provide more comprehensive support and so I think we did a series of 10 um Circle conferences where there is a teams of up to five sometimes seven or eight people working in conjunction at one time to support the student with an action plan um we tend to get better results that way um especially when students have a very active role in helping come up with the solutions and implement the solutions another example of that collaborative problem solving and also in response to student discipline we had some challenges early this fall with some students who um individually awesome as a group um group think kind of took over and this run a monk and after many times of atts of redirects and stuff we said we got to call a time out and kind of get to the cause of all of this and so we did um a morning where we actually invited all the families in with all the students we had two Circle Keepers who facilitated a very thorough um conversation about um just kind of the the recalls of the behaviors that we're seeing and everybody passed around a talking piece and got to add their input and we walked away with this comprehensive plan with parental support followup processes um and it went a long way to help kind of not only mitigate the conflict but turned it into a really like a jelling experience with our families and so collaborative problems is kind of part of the Bedrock of how we do some of the in intervention work to provide support the um another part about that collaborative problem I just wanted to throw up a a graphic up there um we also use um a lot of restorative practices when it comes to student discipline which is designed to really um not only like um provide natural consequences but teach appropriate behavior through processing and reflection and so um that graphic up there talks about um levels of expectation and levels of support and the box that we try to work within mostly is that box of width um because we know when you're working with all learners but especially struggling Learners um it is really so important to have solid trusting relationships along with a sense of autonomy and when you can combine those two generally you can get better results and so we try to to shoot for that that quadrant of w um and you can see here this is an example of another Circle that we ran this is a quarter one it actually a graduation Circle we had one student who was able to to finish as a graduate that quarter and rather than um you know just saying a few words and having the student family be on the way we turned it into a circle experience where everybody got to kind of either give a well wish or or shower the student with a praise and so it it is part of our process and it's kind of our way of trying to Garner student voice into the education experience I'm going to turn over to Michelle um who if you don't mind I'll give it just a brief introduction Michelle has had many years how many years at the high school before he came into to 12 minut okay um worked in traditional education system for while came to to the T C and it was just a natural Landing plan pad for for her and just her philosophical approach and how she works with students and has been instrumental in helping us get um our pathway series of courses off the ground I let speak to that a little bit um when I think back to when I came to Takata um trying to do this work of saying students academics is initially at least right the least of our worries right and that they come to us with these needs that are far beyond their academics right and so when I think about that Journey that we started 10 years ago together um we were doing that work of trying to support students in all ways but it certainly was not systematized in this way and so um when one of the things I'm proud of is the systematization of saying how do you take a student who's just surviving and help them thrive and this pathway really shows how we build that agency in students to take action um in their own lives because when they come to us they really have little sense of their own agency right they they they they don't believe that they can act and change and grow and so how do you take a student like that um on a path towards their graduation and build the agency um we start out in TLC seminar um TLC seminar is um our introductory class to the school um it's really about those ideas around what skills do I need to let go of I might have been skipping at the high school because avoidance is a really great strategy it's not a very effective one but it's a really great strategy to protect me right what do I do now if skipping isn't an option if all these avoidance strategies aren't an option what do I do I got to have some new tools and so TLC suar really take students and helps them build some more Tools around um their needs whether that's mental health um whe whether that's academic students um then go on to a course called adulting um that contains I hope you could imagine what that might be um effective communication healthy relationships um currently it does um contain some of um our personal finance stuff but as you can see that will starting next year those will kind of separate um and that Journey will be interesting with the addition of that personal finance requirement for graduation number four is our teal uh TC Capstone course um and this course really comes out of the question of what's next um we had a lot of students that get comfortable in our nest and feel so supported and loved and that it's hard to leave it's hard to leave because that answer of what's next is scary um and so tilc Capone really came out of a of a need to help students answer that um and so in that coursework which will continue to be articulated throughout the rest of this year and to the summer um we hope to help them answer that right um to work with our community um organizations like the workforce center um to design job Shadows um college visits those kinds of things so that when they leave the nest they can have some answers about what's next for them action that they can take once they've graduated another another kind of um program that's starting to get traction at the TLC is what we call map star now one of the challenges is getting students to continue to engage in school um in ways that aren't just academic you know at the high school with all the opportunities for clubs sports activities um you know there's just a wide Playbook at the an alternative school you don't you don't have that same level or type of Engagement for a variety of reasons and so one of the things a number of years ago um over two decades ago that our professional organization called Minnesota Association for alternative programs started to launch was this network of alternative students getting together to learn and compete against each other but the competition is actually call life skills competition it's um giving presentations about um a variety of Life topics it's competing in um different kinds of like trivia games like and so there's a number of events and it culminates in a ring competition or conference right now we have I think between five and 10 students earmarked to participate um in that conference coming up but that is kind of like the Capstone to a whole year of events starts off in the fall with a leadership conference um where students go in they do an overnight um in outstate Minnesota um we just got done with legislative Dave where they go um to the capital as alternative programs and um talk with our represent resentatives and um talk about platforms and get some exposure that way and now they're kind of geing up for that Sprint conference I just want to give a shout out to the Chucky Rotary Club who is kind of our sponsor of this effort it been wonderful partners with us and um and so they help kind of make this OPP these opportunities work for leadership development I like to turn it over to Alex Xavier again alexavier can kind of give a whole different perspective on what it's like to go through a different Alternative Learning Experience um there's some profile information about alexer up there but floor is yours and man hello everyone um it's kind of based off what Miss Edon was kind of talking about how like that whole thing is scripped up and set up for us uh coming to the TLC I actually I in high school I went to uh Spring Lake Park High School for my freshman year and I was struggling with some like family issues so I was kind of like off and on in high school and eventually I kind of just dropped out and waited till next year so sophomore year I transferred schools to uh britley so britley high school was um kind of where I felt comfortable and I went went to school I was kind of just this I wanted to put this new image of myself I was super quiet I was I would never do anything like this like I would not ever do anything like this but then Co happened uh Co definitely kind of hit a lot of our students and unexpectedly we were supposed to be off for two weeks and back into school like it was nothing but two weeks eventually turned into two years and I dropped out again I was scared I kind of didn't know what to do I was unmotivated to go to school uh with that being said I moved to Prior Lake and I got a job I got a job I started working for a couple of months and I was giving a job opportunity and there were two things with that job opportunity there was I had to have a diploma and I had to be 18 years old one of those things I was kind of close to the other one not so much so I started speaking with some people and eventually my cousin overheard it and I had a conversation with her and she told me about Tado and hearing it I just really didn't care I just needed to get to school and graduate so one day she came to my home and actually dragged me out of bed to come to Takata and eventually we got here and I was still unmotivated I didn't want to go to school because I felt stupid I didn't being out of school for so long I was scared to come back to it and just I didn't feel like I was ready guy here talked to servis and we set up a plan and this was actually kind of the same time around now where school or spring breake was uh ending so the next quarter happened I I'm in school now and my only two goals were to just come here and graduate just get to school graduate go home and with that uh what was the class called TLC sem TLC seminar that actually kind of based all all my friends in there uh there was this one student who would nonstop start talking to me and kind of built this relationship between the two of us and this gave me another like jump start it gave me another chance to actually like reinvent my myself not just to come here to graduate and just have that certain goal I took a step back and paced myself I actually wanted to learn something instead of rush through it and not learn anything just say I have a diploma so that's what I did and here I am Takata really has opened me up as a person I mean I feel like I told talk with almost all the students there at school um if it's with just academics in general I mean we're all there for one purpose is to graduate we're all helping each other out talking about it and with the circles as much as we hate it as students we don't like talking about our feelings um it helps some of us it really does help us and there's just something about this school that makes me want to keep coming thanks and one thing I just I just want to highlight there you know Alexander's been with us for two years and his journey is not over and one of the things in TLC seminar students here right right out of the gate is time really is a variable here and we learn that students will spark at different times they'll get motivated for different reasons and when the pieces fit together it's like get out of their way and part of our role is to keep School in the game and keep students in the game until that happens and so it's not done by an individual it's a pretty amazing team that does that work day in and day out and it also is if you it is a combination of other Partnerships as well um and again shaki Rotary Club heart um they do a lot of work with us and um I want to recognize them also in closing here we have a graduation coming up on Friday it's going to be a great celebration at the end of quarter 3 um we still don't have a final number yet because there's some still students chopping away but um it'll be a great time 10 o'clock I want to invite everybody here to the June 6 one at 10 um and then we have some other events kind of on the docked as well to close up this school year so um I know we've taken up our time but thanks for um continuing to support our work I just have one comment if you haven't been to graduation try to go I I will be there on Friday and if you haven't been it's it is a it's a great ceremony and if I may Alex Xavier well done absolutely very very for you know I don't know if I believe you were quiet before incredibly thoughtful you know introspective and very proud of you and where you are on that Journey so well done thank you questions thank you thank you next on our agenda is item seven committee reports and other information and uh let's start with Chad okay um I just came back from vacation so I'm going to be a little rusty probably um uh I'll start with the things that I know uh so I'm going to be our delegate to uh bright works so um the first meeting for me for that is coming up uh on I think it's the 17th um week and a halfish away um so excited to see what that's all about um we haven't met anything for policy since the last time we talked and uh Community engagement kind of I'm struggling with anything specific it feels like we're kind of just doing the same stuff like talking about what events are coming up what should we go to um uh yeah and just um I know that one thing we did talk about was the need for um for us to start uh honing our message um for the levy vote and just making sure that we all understand uh how to talk about the Le and why it's needed um C capital projects L Tech yeah um yeah just so we don't get as we're out and about and talking with people in our lives that we know exactly what to say that so Jo uh speaking about Community engagement next Tuesday the 16th uh Chad I and Michelle Michelle I believe will be at Shaka East for I have to look this up to remember what it's called path Court path Court to Middle Schools um Caroline and the D will be at West it's from 5: to 6:30 uh just there to meet all the fifth graders going into sixth grade uh for that uh big change uh that uh it's very important and uh looking forward to that and and just graduation on Friday just as I mentioned a couple minutes ago Caroline um so we have the personal M before this and on Friday of last week I attended a virtual meeting and it was for the association of metropolitan school districts and you know what was really a great virtual meeting um we got to hear from R Sandra Beast how you say her name Ben uh bber and so just like really great you know topics that they talked about we also heard from Aon D who is the assistant Transportation Director of Education engagement so you know some of the things they talked about was TR and where we are at Statewide so that was just really interesting to hear um and then for Community engagement um they stole my thunder but um Adia and I will be at West Middle School on the 16th um and then we talked about what else do we talk about um I think just kind of more where are we going to be for Community chats what do we want to do where do we want to be um what events do we want to do we also talked about maybe um AA and uh nominating like a teacher or a member that has stood out um most of during their time here at Shaka that would tie to her compelling Vision so um since he's graduating we want to give them that honor to do that as part of our community engagement and back I would say that probably sums it up mostly thank you Tim uh got a couple things we've got uh our fourth district advisory committee uh meeting next Tuesday and I believe that's Nancy T's last uh meeting in that space we've got another icon on retiring um but always good content there so we'll have an update for our next board meeting um I it seems like forever ago but uh before spring break I attended the spring choir concert I'm always B Away by the talent in this uh student pool particularly I've got a kid in choir so I'm a little biased but um just phenomenal performance again and I will defer to the chair because there's another activity uh opportunity opening up this summer and I believe there's an informational meeting in May but go ahead I'm going to let you take it home see um we had Personnel committee meeting tonight we have negotiations set for Thursday again um couple other things the uh I was at the scale meeting on Friday morning which was um the executive committee of scale and there was quite a bit of discussion at the beginning of the meeting about the newspaper situation because of the impact on all of the cities in Scott County um so more to come on that and because it doesn't just impact school district it also impacts our cities and County as well um also had a State High School lead meeting last week and I just want to bring um to the attention that there will likely be a vote coming for the school district and the rep um on the board um in regards to ninth grade inclusion um into State High School league governance so um just stay tuned for that I don't know or anything but it'll be a time period that will open up for that before it can proceed and bylaws have to be amended and all that good stuff so it something that would happen for the um 25 26 year uh and then just have Southwest Metro next Thursday we're going to be reviewing the budget for next school year which will incorporate about a million dollars in budget cuts for next school year and then we have state speech coming up next weekend at high school Friday and Saturday thank you um in addition to the the meetings others have mentioned um I participated in uh and then to follow up with him the U so the event coming up the registration for mountain bike season starting in May so informational meeting uh coming up in May uh if you've got uh kids who might be interested in uh in check checking it out please do so and uh Tim and I are also resources if uh you have any questions um I uh along with uh with Mike and and Jim and and uh many representatives in the district uh principls and custodial staff got to go to Roger ruse's celebration of life on a Saturday Roger is a custodian at Red Oak for many years um what really hit me at the uh the celebration of life was the uh the table full of the handmade cards from uh students at Red Oak um he was very well regarded there and uh yeah you could just you could just see that in the uh the the notes and in those cards so U definitely loss for the district Dil uh pretty much just restating everything that's already been said Community engagement meeting we talked a lot about what things we can do in the future to SP more Community engagement obviously next Tuesday we have the passport to Middle School event which I'm super stoked for uh we have the obviously talked about where I get a nominated teacher staff who who falls in line with our compelling Vision which is something I'm also really stoked to do and uh outside of that we have the culture Fest that's going to be happening pretty soon and there's all uh St speech meet happening next Friday and Saturday I would highly I I encourage any of you to come it it's a really fun experience you get to see some of shaka's best and I think you'll have a great time there but outside of that I got more how many students uh will be participating or don't we know yet from Shak or from from Shak Shak it's not that name because the section tournament is this Saturday and after that we'll have a final number okay cool thank you Tiffany I just have a few things if I could they're very minor it's just uh for the engagement we are excited mea will be joining us at our next meeting we're trying to have guest speakers we had Jesse Laura and also Tim zunker previously so we're excited to have Mary Hernandez join us at our next one um car 11 if you did not see the NASA Spotlight on our fantastic students that will be going to Houston shortly for 3D tools uh health science related and then also lunar art to support PTSD and mental health and astronauts so some really great stuff that there um I'd like to piggy back um on what Cher Smith said for Roger you know the positives of social media there's a lot of good things out there and when you see the comments if you have not um had a chance to look on all the platforms that we have there's been some really nice things said about just smile this fun choice of Music always knowing every word and just always being with the kids and relationships and things that we talk about so it's pretty impactful and it's a it's a lot of people in a lot lot of different buildings that a lot of great things to say so want to Echo um the loss to our school Community there um and then two other minor items we do have our student School Board application still open right now um they're really hoping to kick that into gear this week as far as getting the actual applications submitted to us so we can have some great additions and then I was appreciative uh with Mike and Jim sharing an opportunity to go to the public information officer training uh that's got County puts on that was last week on Wednesday a lot of great peers from the county and the city and various other areas including fire P all of that to talk about just what we do in any sort of crises and the information communication side of that so it was a great two three hours I wasn't quite sure where I was going off 169 there's some railroad tracks and you're not quite sure where you're going but there was a lot of police officers so I felt safe that's all I havek thank you Tiffany uh you know first day of the fourth quarter uh which makes it you know hard to believe how close we are to the end I know our our baseball team had their first game today softball's got their first game later this week so we into the spring Sports season it's it's really hard to believe and uh you know we talked a little bit about Personnel committee I hope to be reporting back soon about some of the process that we're making with um with Scott County as we continue to to work on some of the the treny pieces that we talked about in the fall when we had the joint board session and we're we continue to meet we continue to have good conversations and I look forward to to sharing with the whole board when when we're there thank you I'm good you guys covered it all I just I'm just worried that we don't have a DJ on enough stuff I love I love how active both of our student school board members are we talk about getting involved and really maximizing that High School experience you're living
