We provide short-term shelter and support for young adults experiencing homelessness across Scott and Carver counties. Right now we partnered with the Travel Lodge in Shakapei, a relationship that has allowed us uh to help youth stabilize, find work, and move forward towards permanent housing. the property owner uh has been consistent and a committed partner uh doing what he can to support the community. We were made we were recently made aware of the new ordinance that will impact how hotels can operate. Unfortunately, property property owners owners like him were not directly informed and now face new logistical challenges that could disrupt the community partnerships like ours. As Shakapei grows, we want to make sure that this growth doesn't doesn't unintentionally push those working hard to find stability in tough in the tough housing market. Ordinance ordinance like this uh one could make it harder for youth and families to access temporary shelter, especially in areas where other options are limited. So, I'm here to ask um what are what is the process for requesting a a a repeal or a modification of an ordinance? And could an exemption be considered for hotel partners who work work directly with programs helping residents transition into long-term housing? Thank you. We appreciate your comments and just so that you know, our policy is not to take action on items that aren't on our agenda. Um, our staff is here. They also heard your comments. Um my perspective on what the council passed was trying to find a balance. Um I believe it can be uh temporary housing up to a certain period of time, but it can't be permanent housing and I think that's 30 days. I'd defer to staff. I don't have it in front of me. So if you have people that are homeless living there longer than 30 days, that's where your problem would lie. Okay. Um, go ahead, Mr. White. I do want to comment. Um, I'm glad 180 degrees is is here in town in Scott County. Um, teen housing for so many different reasons is important uh for uh emergency shelter uh to help for um to minimize teen suicides, things like that, and just general homelessness. That was my one question is can we get a list of what your concerns are that way we can take a look at them. Well, I think the first step would be to contact our staff and and they'll be able to go through the ordinance with you and tell you what's allowed and not allowed and then you'd be able to make a better determination on on what your concerns might be and you can raise them concerns. I have done that with staff. Yes. Okay. I talked to um Mr. Michael actually this this about two hours ago actually. Okay. um and was informed about the 30-day ordinance um and was just brought up concerns in regards to uh well after that 30 days where do people go and um also concerns about uh operations. They had talked about people who uh staff members who reside there like management where they supposed to go if they're supposed to manage their hotel and where are they supposed to manage their hotel if they live there. um and uh if they have apartments in the hotel, like owner apartments, what does that look like? So, those weren't actually talked about in the ordinance or specified. And so, that's kind of why I've come here today to kind of ask for a little bit more clarity other than after 30 days. Um my interpretation is if you are managing the site and you're living on site, it can't be in a guest room. It would have to be a room that's not available to the guest to rent. Okay. So, that would be my interpretation. And I'm certainly not a lawyer. You could ask uh Mr. Leak or Mr. attorneys. Now, I understand you really may not care about me and my travails, but it's important for all of us. You see, I've lost something that I think, you know, it's really not important to anyone but me, but it is important to me, and I want to make sure that I find it. If I don't find it, I'm afraid of what the consequences to your fair city might be. That's why I've come here to this august body to ask for your help. Um our spring meetings coming up Thursday and that'll be a tour of the amphitheater. Um full membership meeting at the same time. We'll be over at uh Mr. Puff afterwards. We'll go through the election of officers, get general updates on projects. I think Mandot will be there to also give an update um talk about what's next as far as um actions now that we have a priorities have been agreed upon with all the cities and members. And let's see, I think that might be it for 169 coalition though groundbreaking next week. And let's see, as far as SPU, there was no meeting for uh SPU this uh past week. Uh but we did I I did get emails about the backflow prevention. Again, that's not something utilities brought forth that that comes from federal to state out to the city. We did not implement that. Uh I think we're going to make sure to be at week four deaf legend like de leopard de leopard legend tribute uh not quite brothers this week five. So that's going to be exciting rhythm on the rails downtown Shakipi and what Wednesday nights it's Wednesday night starting uh let's see uh to 9 I believe. Yeah let's get that is 6:00 to 9 starting Wednesday night and the first night is 8 uh June 18th. So, all right. Be fun. Very good. Thank you, Mayor. um nothing as a liazison but I did on Tuesday attend the Scott County law enforcement memorial scholarship which was their 42nd annual dinner and that's where they give um an award um not award scholarships actually to any students who want to continue into the law enforcement um career and we had one of our own um daughters of one of our police officers who was a recipient. It was really cool. And also it was the week last week which was the week of our police um department week um sorry I'm trying to think of the correct word and they honored the officers that we've lost here in Scott. National Police Department Week. Yes. Sorry I was just trying to get everything out at the same time. Um but that's what I went to. So on the 23rd you have is your last chance to take the community conversation and sh survey. Um again they're wanting all district families, taxpayers, businesses and community members to participate. Um if you haven't done so, uh do please do. Uh then they'll be reviewing those comments at a later June meeting. Um, let's see. June 14th, downtown steering committee just further discussion on the different events that they have planning. So, some good stuff coming up. Talked about Rhythm on the Rails. Uh, they're very excited to hear further direction on social district. So, they're all excited. That's all done and ready to go. And then on the 16th was the ribbon cutting for uh Bricks and Mini Figs, the new um Lego store out in Southbridge. I went attended that ribbon cutting. So that's what I got. Very good. Do you know I I assume the school district's going to compile all of the information into like a breakdown type thing. Will they be sharing that with the public? Yes, it will be public and then um it will and as I mentioned before, if you go and take let's say you've already taken it, you can go back in and um still engage with it. You can read the comments, you can add comments. So it's a it's not a oneanddone. It's kind of an ongoing, like I said, it's yeah, it's a very fluid conversation. All right. Very good. Anything else? The 16th I also did the ribbon cutting at uh bricks and mini figs 8022 old carriage court next to uh PetSmart. Very cool place. Everything mini figurines and Legos. And I made a little dragster while I was in there. So that was pretty cool. They've got a couple of big spots uh that you can just walk into and play with whatever's in there and make whatever you want. And you can buy it too if you want. So it certainly got our money out of it and it was a big expense to to rebuild it and and there was a lot of discussion on whether to do that or not. It's just such a uh landmark and shock being such a rare thing with the sand bottom outdoor pool and stuff that council decided we were going to go ahead and continue on that tradition. So it's going to be ready by then, right? It's going to be Don't jinx it. Don't jinx it. June 6th under under budget and there's gold and pirate bill to be found.
