My name is Steve Alrech. I'm the tribal operations administrator for the Shaki Medaku community. Um here tonight, um thank you for having us tonight. Uh the before you are is the SMC's healing center. Um this facility is been in the planning for more than a decade um by the SMC and the other three tribes in Skate, Minnesota. Um the purpose of the facility and the facility is just under 50,000 square ft down two levels is to provide um inpatient outpatient care for Native Americans to Native Americans who are suffering from negative health outcomes, mental health addictions from uh generational trauma and other issues. Uh so working together the four tribes who are building this facility hosting facility and the operating facility. The other three tribes will be working with us. Um, and based on the location, rather than SMC installing sewer and water and replicating facilities that are already available with the city, um, at this time because it's a little bit further away from our existing, uh, service area, uh, we worked with city staff and Spock to come up with an option to provide water from and sewer from the city uh, to this property, utilize existing utilities. And so um that's we've reached a we've got a um an agreement in place with the city and shopping public utilities for that. We got agreements in place with the county for road access. And so um we're in the process of building building right now. The last step is finalizing um this agreement with we're finalizing this approval with the city. >> When you open >> uh a year well May of next year. >> Okay. >> Just less than a year. And we've been working with all our neighbors. The church just uh granted us easements for the turn lane and uh we've gotten to know all our neighbors in the area and so um it's a very nice piece of property and so we're working with them to blend things into the natural environment. >> Great. >> Yeah. >> Commissioner, >> is is this like impatient? >> It has both inpatient and outpatient. Yep. So the maximum number of impatients could be up to 40 at one time. Um it's in the 50,000 foot facility, but it also will have outpatient services, too. Mr. Rob explain to me I mean that you you have explained but is this like a hospital or different than a hospital? >> No, it would be if you're familiar with like prairie care so it's similar to a prairie care type facility that can deal with a whole plethora of mental health and substance type issues for individuals whether it be impatient or outpatient. And so and the difference between this and a prairie care is there's a cultural component to this. So the Dakota people will have a cultural component of the facility that will help members kind of rroot themselves with their culture to use that to help them long term um with their healing. So that's that's the difference between it and a typical clinic setting. >> Right. Thank you. >> Followup. >> Yeah. >> And this is uh for the tribes. It's not everybody can go >> and it's being built by the four tribes. it there is a model that depending on um whether the four tribes are able to have enough patients there that we would look to serve Scott County natives also at this tribe. So um Native Americans would be served at this tribe or at this location. Um initially Dakota um members but then ultimately could also expand to to help all natives in Scott County.
