[1:47] Whereas the governing board of Lu [1:48] Henderson recognizes the value of [1:50] student participation in extracurricular [1:52] activities. And whereas the MSHSL [1:55] Foundation is offering grants and [1:57] funding to assist schools to provide [2:00] seminars, training opportunities or [2:02] support for specific school functions [2:04] for students and faculty members and [2:06] officials and others who are involved in [2:09] athletic and fine arts programs. [2:11] Therefore, be it resolved that the [2:12] governing board of the Lisa Henderson [2:14] School District supports the school's [2:16] application to the Minnesota State High [2:18] School League Foundation for a form B [2:20] grant. But [3:58] >> yeah, the uh last time we were up, we [4:03] used the uh same gentleman to guide us [4:08] and work us through the process. And [4:09] there's a lot that we don't know. It [4:13] seems how this isn't our primary [4:15] function. There's a lot of this that [4:17] none of us are really experts on and I [4:20] think Tom had done a really nice job the [4:22] last time kind of working us through [4:23] that whole thing and he's got a lot of [4:26] knowledge that the rest of us lack as [4:28] far as [4:30] structure costs alternatives what's [4:33] being done elsewhere in the state all [4:36] those kind of things so um I guess as a [4:39] result of our meeting our meeting this [4:40] morning we recommend that we engage [4:44] >> threeear contracts five year [4:46] >> three [4:47] >> and then we extended length [4:49] >> you have the option you have the option [4:51] to go extra two years that's what ours [4:53] is this is the fifth year [4:56] >> okay so for those following along at [4:58] home we have I mean I think [5:01] transportation is one of our largest [5:03] costs outside of teaching or you know [5:07] our staff right [5:09] >> um and then the other thing I think [5:10] that's important to kind of note in this [5:12] proposal and they kind of mentioned it [5:14] is that like we Not only do we have to [5:15] transport our students, but we're also [5:17] we are also paying the cost to transport [5:20] the nonpublic schools. So, we transport [5:23] St. An students. We also transport [5:25] special ed kids, not our you know, I [5:28] think the state sees all special ed [5:30] students as ours if they live in the [5:32] district. So, even if they're enrolled [5:34] at say new country school or S or [5:36] something like that, we're on the tab [5:38] for transporting them. Correct. And we [5:41] can also have transportation costs [5:42] sometimes if they go to a special [5:44] location or facility that is not inside [5:46] of our district. Um so those things add [5:49] up, right? Like it's not just it's not [5:51] just about transporting those students [5:53] that are coming to our three buildings. [5:56] Um but last time around it I think it [5:58] was really helpful for all of us to have [6:00] someone there to kind of give us advice. [6:02] My buddy did a good job last time. [6:03] >> Yeah, it really did. Like I think saving [6:06] a considerable amount of money [6:08] and He can negotiate too with like we [6:11] wouldn't have a clue [6:13] >> what to negotiate about, but he knows [6:16] what to what the standards are and [6:19] everything like that. So I enjoyed our [6:21] process last time with him the old bus [6:25] company. Not so much that wasn't fun, [6:28] but [6:29] >> it's okay. So [6:39] you know, he's already got he's familiar [6:41] with us like contract is his contract [6:44] template. So, a lot of those services I [6:46] don't anticipate taking that that kind [6:48] of hours. You'll build actual hours up [6:50] to that amount. Um, you know, I want to [6:53] make two points. Uh, first, we are [6:55] required to do this like to do the RFP [6:57] process. This is over $175,000. [7:00] So, and then with that being said, like [7:02] this is not a reflection on superior [7:04] transportation services. We're just [7:06] required to do this. Um, that Tom knows [7:09] our district, he knows the industry [7:12] and so was good resource in the past. [7:18] >> Do you know off the top of your head how [7:20] much our general transportation like on [7:22] an annual basis what that number is? [7:24] >> Yeah, 970,000 this past year. It was [7:26] over a million last year. And I think we [7:30] can recoup that 6,800 pretty quickly [7:33] hopefully with him finding different I [7:36] don't want to say loopholes but [7:37] solutions for or cost savings for us [7:40] too.
