So once you're issued a building permit and I would defer uh to the city administrator. I believe it's either six months or nine months... basically they have to be continuing work on the project or the building permit essentially terminates and then they would have to come in and get a new building permit.
In specific, it is illegal under Minnesota law to condition a variance on solving a code enforcement related matter. So understood the concern but legally we're not allowed to include it as a condition.
The whole issue here between these two is that I like to take my time and do things thorough perfectionistish type and so it takes longer. And the whole issue is that they want it done fast and we want it done efficient done, cleaned up.
I appreciate the the the sentiment in the in the timeline, but if this project didn't require variance, we would have really no no teeth or nothing to say here. If it was my project last year um and I swung a nail a week, Mr. Wolf would be looking at the exact same thing.
Um, Madame Mayor, I guess I would prefer the word like consider a potential extension versus appeal.
Uh per the direction of the city council, staff has been developing an ordinance to regulate bed and breakfast residences over the past eight months. The city council held multiple workshops in early 2026 to discuss whether to pursue adoption of an ordinance.
We felt like it was pretty important um there be some off- streetet parking because the owner of the property is required to be present and on the premises. So if they have um parking if those off- streetet parking stalls are being taken up by the residences all of them are going to be on the on street. So they felt it was a requirement to have two on street stalls either for guests or the property owners. So not everyone was parking on the street.
