The committee reviewed existing hunting regulations in light of a recent state legislative change that expanded firearm types allowed for hunting (rifles in shotgun-only zones). The city's municipal ordinance is currently more restrictive, only permitting shotguns. After consulting with the city attorney and Washington County officials (who declined to make county-wide changes), the recommendation was to maintain the current, stricter municipal ordinance. The city attorney believes Cottage Grove has a strong legal position to be more restrictive than state law in this matter. Additionally, the annual review of hunting maps identified only one change: the 'Tank' property at 80th Street and Keats, due to subdivision, which will no longer qualify for shotgun hunting by the 2026-2027 season. The archery hunting map remains unchanged.
