[Music] Hi everyone, I'm Phil Jentz, your communications manager, and welcome back to the council update. Today I am joined by council member Dave Clawson. Dave, thanks for being here. >> Good to see you again. Well, we've got a really exciting event coming up on the horizon that I know families are looking forward to and they look forward to every year. It's the Cottage Grove Fire Department open house. So, Dave, what can you tell us about it? >> That is uh one of my favorite things to attend. I was in public safety for quite a while and I like to connect with the firemen again, but October 7th, it's a Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at our central fire station. >> Cannot wait. Uh, I was able to to to join last year's open house and they have all sorts of fun activities and so it's a great mix of fun and education and why beyond that is this event important for the community to attend. >> It's about connection. Meet the people who are going to serve you. You know, you could um have an emergency, police, fire, medical emergency. You're going to get a chance to meet the people who could be responding to your emergency, but it's all about kids meeting these emergency responders, too. Uh we want kids to feel comfortable talking to policemen, firemen, and they'll feel more comfortable around uh well bad situations maybe. >> That is a really great point. And you know, really having those relationships and trust uh built ahead of time really does make a difference. And so beyond some of those general topics that that are very important, what other activities can families expect? >> Yeah, they're going to there's there's a lot of things they're going to be able to do there. They're going to have a live kitchen fire demonstration. Kids will be able to squirt some water. There's going to be a cardiac arrest simulation, CPR instruction, >> climb into a fire truck, see what's inside of them, how they work, and some giveaways. >> Super fun. It's always really fun to see the kiddos climbing into the fire truck. And last year, I got a kick out of they're, you know, shooting the fire hose into the field off behind the fire station, and they just seem to to love it and have a lot of fun. And so just a reminder, the Cottage Grove Fire Department open house is Tuesday, October 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Central Fire Station. So come on out, meet the team, and have a great evening. >> Look forward to seeing everybody there. >> Well, thanks again for joining us, Council Member Clawson, and thank you to True Lens Community Media for producing these videos, and to you all for watching this council update, and we will see you next time.
