[Music] hi I'm council member Monique Garza and this is your May Council update we recently celebrated National Public Works week so I thought it would be a great time to learn a little bit more about one of the divisions in our public works department I am here with Gary oloff who is our street superintendent Gary can you give me an overview of what our streets team is responsible for in the city sure so we maintain over 193 RightWay miles which includes plowing of the roads Paving patching and then when you get to the rways we do all the boulevard Mowing and spraying of the weeds and then signs we have our own sign shop here so we make our own street name signs regulatory signs we got a storm Water Division which takes care of 290 ponds and 4,100 catch Basin I hear the Forester is on the street team as well can you tell us a bit about what they do so we maintain over 1 ,000 Boulevard trees we do all our own removals in town we do our planting and we do trimming throughout town he also make sure our Urban Force stays healthy so Gary how can residents report potholes or other City related issues so they can call public works at 651 458 2808 or they can go on the city web page and go under Public Works and there's a place to report an issue what measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our public workers during and Street repairs so we provide all our employees proper PPE and proper work Zone setup residents of The Cottage Grove could help us out by slowing down in our work zones and staying alert what are the other divisions within our public works department and how do you work with them so we have utilities here we have Fleet Maintenance and building maintenance we also have Parks here so when plowing season comes it's all hands- on Deck it takes everybody we have here to clear the streets of Cottage Grove if a storm comes in during this summertime or any City events we work very closely together thank you Gary for joining me today to answer some questions thank you I'm Monique Garza and this is your May Council update [Music]
