Hello everyone and welcome back to the council update. I'm your communications manager, Phil Jentz. Joining me today is council member Dave Theiti. Council member Theiti, welcome. >> Thanks. Thanks for having me. >> Well uh Dave, why don't we just jump right in and uh there's a lot going on in Cottage Grove. a lot of developments, a lot of new and exciting things happening. So, why don't you just tell us what's coming down the pipeline? >> Yeah, there are a lot of things happening and uh and of course we we all know that the mayor is good at uh keeping people up to date on Facebook and through different video casts and things like that, but one of the highlights is Panera Bread. And, you know, it's something that's a lot of residents have been asking for. And so, we're really excited to see that it's moving forward. Uh they're going to have a new drive-thru and outdoor seating. Yeah, they plan to be under construction and open yet this year. So, uh that'll be really neat. Uh it's going to be a convenient dining option to the area along with new jobs, increased activity nearby, and we're looking forward to become another great gathering spot here in Cottage Grove >> opening in 2026, too. I can't wait. >> Yeah, it's going to be great. >> It's It is something. Yeah. >> Well, that is really nice. And I also understand that there's a lot going on in the world of housing. So why don't you tell us what's happening there? >> Yeah, there's uh we're continuing to see a lot of growth that in that area and uh the growth rate though is something that we uh do watch and manage closely to make sure that we're not growing too fast to outpace city services and uh and the schools and things of that nature. We have a few new housing developments coming soon that are offering a mix of options for families, firsttime buyers. So, one of those is is Bravara Trails, and that'll actually have 269 single family lots and 306 town home lots. So, this is a pretty good size development, and that's going to be right across from Cottage Grove Middle School. >> Right. >> Another one is Telcott Glenn, which actually will include 177 single family residence lots, and uh that's going to be some nice development. Kind of starts a little bit more of that area down there. And then finally, one of the last developments in the West draw, which is kind of the area north of 70th Street, north of Ravine Parkway, and right, you know, to the east of Jamaica and so forth. It's actually development both East Jamaica and West Jamaica. But, uh, Mcatti Farms is is going to have 85 single family residence homes. And, um, it's, uh, it's going to be another nice development, too. and and pretty soon it's just all going to be filled up. >> Can you tell us briefly why that is important for the community? Yeah, you know, we did uh we actually did some different studies and actually had a formal study called the Maxfield Housing Study, which we just recently did, but you know, we were being told that we we had a ton of nice single family homes and so forth, but we really really weren't getting, you know, some of the uh multifamily housing and some of the uh other town homes and things like that for aging population so forth. So, >> so that is important. We're in actually looking at how do we expand that and that study that we recently did estimated that we a demand for like 1,317 single family homes and 593 uh owned multifamily which as opposed to rented you know uh housing and so forth by 2030. So uh and actually you know that's not not that >> not too far away. Yeah that's pretty wild actually. >> Yeah. And then obviously, you know, it's the old catch 22. You you get more more housing options and then you you know, people always want different businesses and things like that. So that brings that businesses and and uh you know, just uh continuing to expand the vibrant community and activities. >> The old adage uh uh rooftops over retail, right? Right. Some of those new businesses follow where the people are moving to, which that definitely some of that makes sense. Well, uh, Council Member Thei, I know you're busy and that that already was a lot to cover, but it's important. It's important for the folks to hear kind of what's going on in the community.
