This is an annual process required for for us that ties into community education levy certification or um um What am I looking for, Courtney? >> Levy funding. Thank you very much for that. So, obviously [snorts] the the levy through the community that is tied to this number. We get the number from the state demographer. That's corroborated by our own census folks.

Um, so I just wanted to say um, I actually wrote some things down this time. Um, as an accountant, I believe in the fund balance policy. It's important. Our auditors want it and I do agree with most of the policy. Um, and the part that I have trouble with, of course, is that the um, remediation piece. And that's why I'm willing I'm hoping to strike it.

Is there the ability genuinely to get back to why I raised my hand and come up is, you know, can we make it effective the 26th, you know, the the punitive part of it the 26th, you know, 27th and the rest goes in effect now. We we shore up these items, um, you know, to make the final policy before September.

My hesitation on striking it from here on the I guess the premonition that we'll add it somewhere else later is that later will never come. We've had decades to have a fund balance policy and it hasn't happened. We've also had decades to put accountability into the board member policies and it's never been done.

Special education revenue, that was a big deal that we talked a lot about in the finance committee. We talked about that tuition adjustment. And so when the tuition adjustment came through, we had less kids that were going to schools outside the Forest Lake area schools and getting those special education services that we owed money to then we had the year before. That is rare.

Medical assistance funding three years ago now we hired an amazing staff member and sometimes you know it takes a little bit to get everything rolling but she has more than paid for her position in the fact that we have medical assistance funds finally coming through that we were anticipating. This includes adding our bus aids on our buses to get reimbursement for that.

this is um so as a member of the 916 uh district, they have the ability to do their long-term facility maintenance just like we do as a district. Uh they are capped uh at the per pupil, unlike us as a 1A district that can go above that. Um so once they set their LTFM um budget, they divide out um based on enrollment what the um amount is.

it it has to do mainly with like renovations and improvements to the buildings. I know I brought uh I I I think I have a specific example. I brought like a million dollars to the board about changing doors. Uh just because that was such an anomaly for me. I I sat there and how can how can doors cost a million dollars? But it's projects like that, and they also got a new space that required a lot of renovations so they can move into that space.
