[0:05] This fight is hammered down by Ali
[0:10] Park home run.
[0:16] Let's go.
[0:25] You later
[0:47] for another edition of a famed district
[0:50] rivalry tradition. SEC Sports welcomes
[0:54] you on this chilly Friday night to high
[0:56] school girls basketball Metro East
[0:58] edition. The Tartan Titans and the North
[1:01] St. Paul Polers. North St. Paul coming
[1:04] off their first winters
[1:07] >> a couple days ago at Tartan off to a
[1:09] solid start, but a lot of new beginnings
[1:14] for both teams. We'll talk more about
[1:16] that
[1:17] >> once we play the Star Spangled Banner.
[1:22] Hallelujah.
[2:39] All right. Well, let's meet our guests,
[2:42] the visitors, the bowlers searching for
[2:45] their second win on the season. Also a
[2:48] member of the
[2:49] >> as we noted a lot of new beginnings for
[2:54] >> our two contenders for North St. Paul.
[2:58] >> Their degree
[3:00] of variety comes from all of the players
[3:03] who are suiting up for the first time on
[3:04] varsity. They graduated a lot of pieces
[3:08] from last year's team and that is one
[3:10] explanation behind
[3:12] their slow start for Tartan. They've got
[3:15] a new head coach. Angel Robinson stepped
[3:17] down
[3:18] >> as she tries to revive her professional
[3:21] career overseas.
[3:24] And taking her spot, Michael Morris, who
[3:26] told me beforehand he's still learning
[3:30] >> a few things about his players.
[3:35] Turn.
[3:36] >> We don't have a lot of stats on the
[3:38] North St. Paul side. They haven't been
[3:40] published to any of the hubs that we
[3:43] use,
[3:45] but one of the younger faces to keep an
[3:47] eye on down the road, Amaya Sherro, the
[3:50] eighth grader. They have just one senior
[3:53] and Anna Michler
[3:57] >> and a lot of growing ahead of them for
[4:00] Tart. They bring back a couple of pieces
[4:02] who
[4:05] They've had key roles and there's one of
[4:06] them. Angelina Funches the senior
[4:08] averaging 11.8 through four games.
[4:11] >> Mr. Michael
[4:14] >> Elo Oani right behind with 8.8. Mia
[4:17] Hernandez with eight points per game.
[4:20] For Tartan
[4:22] and North St. Paul the question will be
[4:25] how they handle themselves against
[4:28] teams that would serve as statement
[4:30] games. And in the Metro East, obviously
[4:33] Hill Murray will be at the top of the
[4:34] pack there.
[4:39] Tartan's lone loss coming against Park
[4:41] Center, a group that isn't a pushover.
[4:43] They have a couple of high caliber
[4:45] players. There's Doug Johnson. He's been
[4:47] at the helm
[4:49] at North St. Paul for several years, and
[4:51] he's got quite a list of names from the
[4:55] prep circles alongside him. Many Smith,
[4:58] a two-time Athena Award winner at North
[5:00] St. Paul.
[5:02] Nvea Galloway part of the coaching staff
[5:04] this year. She played her high school
[5:06] ball at Minihaha Academy. Played a few
[5:08] years of college ball.
[5:11] And Michael Morris
[5:13] was on the staff at Nova Classical
[5:15] Academy, the private school in St. Paul,
[5:18] before making his way to Oakdale.
[5:21] We're ready to go. Tartan wearing the
[5:23] black. North St. Paul wearing the white.
[5:26] This used to be part of a double header
[5:28] back in the day with the district
[5:30] rivalry.
[5:33] And right away, Tartan wins the tip and
[5:35] takes off running.
[5:37] >> Hello. O Yasani to the line for two.
[5:43] >> As we just noted, Oasani
[5:46] 8.8 points per game. the freshman
[5:55] >> gets the front end to drop.
[5:58] >> Another change for Tartan. They got
[6:01] moved to 33A.
[6:04] They've been in 4A for some time.
[6:08] >> Unfortunately for the Titans,
[6:11] that puts them right in the path of
[6:12] Queen Durham Hall in the in the section.
[6:14] So, it will be a tall task in all
[6:17] likelihood to get out of there and into
[6:18] state. North St. Paul, it's not much
[6:20] better. They're in 43A
[6:23] where Hill Murray is located. And Dale,
[6:25] if they can get that point guard
[6:27] situation worked out, they could easily
[6:30] earn their way back to state.
[6:32] These two, it's more about a building
[6:34] project as drawing the foul on the
[6:36] Oboard is Fatuma Shuri
[6:41] >> with North St. Paul
[6:43] >> talking to some of their staffers and
[6:47] parents and coaches,
[6:49] >> they said it might be a year or two
[6:52] and it's just because these younger
[6:55] players have to get their legs under
[6:57] them just as we once did. Believe it or
[6:59] not, there was the first time for me in
[7:02] my broadcasting career.
[7:07] And that means you have to take those
[7:09] lumps on occasion as Sheree unable to
[7:11] score at the free throw line.
[7:18] >> North St. Paul gets the ball back
[7:20] though.
[7:27] >> With it is Ebony Pard.
[7:31] >> Goes out to Laura Lindsay. Shot clock
[7:33] winding down. Lindsay spots it. Shot
[7:36] goes off the rim. Collecting the rebound
[7:39] is Isabelle Disour. O Yanji hits
[7:45] the elbow j. She has all four points so
[7:48] far.
[7:59] Lindsay passes back out
[8:03] >> Nella Smith normally wears 20 but
[8:05] wearing number 42
[8:07] for this matchup. Hernandez takes a peak
[8:12] now backs away. Disore left alone fires
[8:15] the three and hits
[8:19] the three. Is he Dismore with her first
[8:22] field goal and Tartan off to a seven
[8:24] nothing start.
[8:32] >> Lindsay again
[8:37] succumbs to the pressure. Hernandez
[8:39] takes off running.
[8:42] >> Nine nothing start for the Titans.
[8:44] Timeout North St. Paul.
[8:46] >> Out.
[8:49] Last year
[8:52] the season series was a split. Tartan
[8:54] won the first meeting. North St. Paul
[8:56] won the second meeting
[8:59] by 29 points. And it has gone back and
[9:02] forth between the two schools over the
[9:05] last couple of years.
[9:10] I think the biggest challenge is
[9:12] building up the ranks. Tartan.
[9:16] They have some history if you go back
[9:18] several years as we take another look at
[9:20] the steal and run up by Hernandez
[9:23] of course 1998
[9:28] with Jesse Stsky
[9:30] who would later have a story career at
[9:33] Wisconsin and was inducted into their
[9:35] athletics hall of fame several years ago
[9:37] and Tia Albert the all-time leading
[9:39] scorer here at Tarton.
[9:44] part of the 3000 club, a group that
[9:48] is approaching 30 members now.
[9:57] >> Shuri
[9:59] gets hammered. She'll shoot two again.
[10:03] And I noticed as she tried going back up
[10:05] for it
[10:07] >> and in that first attempt,
[10:10] >> not a lot of elevation with the legs.
[10:12] Didn't really jump into it and use that
[10:16] jump step to lean into her shot. And
[10:19] that's one of those things that can come
[10:21] with time.
[10:23] >> Shuri the junior.
[10:26] And there are some other players I've
[10:28] met who didn't have high verticals who
[10:31] would later excel. Tama Yugus comes to
[10:33] mind. She's playing overseas as a
[10:35] professional after a solid high school
[10:38] career at Roseville and a college career
[10:40] at UMKC. So, there's more than one way
[10:42] to make this work.
[10:45] But if Sherry can
[10:48] work her legs a little more and use them
[10:50] as a springboard, maybe that could help
[10:53] bring some success her way. It's Tartan
[10:55] ball. 1544 left in the first half.
[10:59] >> Tartan looking for win number three in a
[11:01] row. North St. Paul looking for their
[11:03] second one in a row.
[11:08] >> Hernandez on the drive and the finish.
[11:15] >> Hernandez has been one of the central
[11:17] figures for the Titans over the last
[11:18] several years.
[11:21] Going across goes Ebony Pard that comes
[11:24] up long. Tart with numbers again.
[11:26] Hernandez
[11:27] goes to Funches who recovers. Finds
[11:30] Hernandez but a little too strong.
[11:33] >> Jump ball or St. Paul with the arrow.
[11:38] >> And here comes Amaya Sherro.
[11:42] >> You may recognize her. We covered her
[11:45] earlier in the school year. She plays
[11:48] soccer for North St. Paul and we covered
[11:52] the North St. Paul Tartan match.
[11:56] I was told she might take over the
[11:59] starting goalie spot next year. We'll
[12:00] see how that unfolds.
[12:10] >> Unchappelle
[12:12] going crosscourt to Pard. Pass broken up
[12:15] and V Jones unable to get it down low.
[12:18] bunches on the run. Cheryl
[12:21] stayed with her, but Tartan had a
[12:23] trailer in Kenzie Aerake.
[12:26] She's the younger sister of Kendra
[12:28] Eicerake, who also played her high
[12:30] school ball at Tartan.
[12:37] >> Bounce pass, but it was right to Oasani.
[12:40] And Ella wants to take it all the way.
[12:44] >> She'll have a chance to do so at the
[12:46] line. running her way to the free throw
[12:48] line.
[12:58] >> Elo Oasani
[13:00] played at North St. Paul a year ago
[13:09] >> before making the move to Tartan.
[13:13] One time,
[13:16] >> but she did log her first career double
[13:18] double with the Polers. So that
[13:20] milestone
[13:23] >> is firmly secured. Nothing to the free
[13:26] throws, but the rebound punches can't
[13:28] follow through,
[13:31] >> but Annabelle En does
[13:36] after getting the Oboard initially off
[13:38] those missed free throws. So Tarton does
[13:40] score the hard way on that possession.
[13:42] North St. Paul throws it away and the
[13:45] Titans hold a 15- nothing lead.
[13:49] >> Titans
[13:51] 14
[13:54] number 10
[14:03] catch and shoot three off the inbound
[14:05] goes off the front iron.
[14:07] That was Payton Love
[14:10] >> here. Jordan basketball underneath
[14:14] >> and it will stay with the Titans after a
[14:16] brief scrum.
[14:21] >> 15- nothing.
[14:23] And coming into this matchup, Tartan the
[14:26] favorite, so not necessarily a surprise,
[14:31] but as we said before, a lot of it has
[14:34] to do with where the two teams are at.
[14:37] And I had the same situation unfold at a
[14:41] game I called last night. Still Water
[14:43] Cret and Durham Hall for NPN in boys
[14:46] basketball. Cret and Durham Hall
[14:50] silver medalist last year. They have a
[14:52] lot of division one talent. Still Water
[14:54] rebuilding and you saw how that
[14:56] unfolded. Well, I did. Creatal won
[14:59] convincingly. Here comes Enang
[15:03] who makes a convincing run to the rim
[15:06] and North St. Paul.
[15:10] They have to understand
[15:12] and I think they will that
[15:15] trust the process. Don't worry about the
[15:18] outcome for now.
[15:23] punches transition three is short
[15:28] and a dead ball rebound to the Polers.
[15:33] >> North St. Paul, for example, did pick up
[15:35] their first win.
[15:37] They came against a Brooklyn center team
[15:38] that maybe doesn't have a lot, but
[15:40] again, considering where North St. Paul
[15:42] is,
[15:44] >> you'll take those victories where you
[15:45] can.
[15:51] Titan basketball
[15:54] >> and use them as building blocks
[15:58] >> for the future.
[16:05] >> And for Tardan,
[16:07] we'll have to see if they can put
[16:09] together enough as that corner three
[16:10] rattles in and out for Peyton Love. Dead
[16:12] ball rebound to the Polers. We'll have
[16:15] to see if they can put together enough
[16:18] momentum to make a serious run at the
[16:22] top dogs in the section.
[16:25] Green Derm Hall the heavy favorite.
[16:28] Komao Park is in there as well, but I'm
[16:30] not sure they have the depth.
[16:34] I think CDH will get through uncontested
[16:37] compared to
[16:39] a year ago.
[16:42] But that's what the season's all about
[16:43] is Baiton Love trying to make that three
[16:45] ball work. Hasn't hit her last few
[16:47] attempts.
[16:49] There's a fake. That's Maya Villa Noeva.
[16:52] Her drive is offline. And these are the
[16:54] opportunities for North St. Paul.
[16:57] But losing her balance was to very
[16:59] unchapel.
[17:02] As I was saying, these are the moments
[17:04] where you really want to strike
[17:07] >> as Love connects on the short range
[17:10] jumper for two.
[17:14] for her first field goal.
[17:23] >> Lindsay
[17:28] Shovel pass, baseline jumper offline
[17:31] from V. Jones
[17:35] and Tartan brings it up. They lead 19-
[17:37] nothing. Love finally knocks down.
[17:40] Reverse triple.
[17:43] So, five quick ones. Time out. North St.
[17:45] Paul. 1139 left in the first half and
[17:48] the Titans lead 22 to nothing.
[17:53] Payton Love the junior.
[17:56] And as we said, looking up and down the
[17:57] Tartan roster, they do bring back a lot.
[18:04] >> It's a matter of personnel, the players
[18:06] they have.
[18:09] Not necessarily at the same level
[18:11] >> as folks like Mattie Hamill
[18:14] and Cretton Durham Hall and Isabella
[18:16] Doo, but Pton Love. Sometimes,
[18:19] you'll hear this from coaches and
[18:21] commentators. All you need is to see
[18:23] that first one go down and that lifts
[18:25] the proverbial live.
[18:28] Other teams in the section, Minneapolis
[18:30] Roosevelt, they've been in rebuild mode
[18:33] since
[18:35] Olivia Ren graduated. in Koma Park.
[18:38] They're off to a solid start,
[18:41] but Tartan will have their work cut out
[18:43] for them.
[18:48] And we'll highlight their schedule later
[18:51] on in this broadcast in all likelihood.
[18:54] Looking at their schedule, the teams
[18:56] they have,
[19:00] >> they don't really have a matchup
[19:03] outside of the conference that I really
[19:05] feel could challenge them or give them
[19:08] that barometer.
[19:13] Outside of Hill Murray, Two Rivers is
[19:15] playing well despite losing one of their
[19:17] top players to grant uh transfer. That
[19:19] is
[19:21] >> foul will stay here.
[19:29] >> And on the North St. Paul's side,
[19:35] >> you have to think there are a few more
[19:36] opportunities to pick up some wins. They
[19:39] do have a game with Tatino Grace later
[19:41] in the year, but that could be a tough
[19:43] one for them. That is a Friday matchup.
[19:45] Tina Grace,
[19:47] a contender in section 53A as the Polers
[19:50] turn it over.
[19:53] Payton Love again short on the three.
[20:14] This is Pard dribble drive and the
[20:16] finish.
[20:18] >> North St. Paul logs their first field
[20:20] goal.
[20:34] catching up with a few faces. It is
[20:36] youth night for Tartan, by the way. So,
[20:38] their traveling team will
[20:41] showcase their skills on the floor. No
[20:43] three-point play for the Polers
[20:46] as Love picks up the ball after making
[20:50] the reach. Here comes Enay for two more.
[20:56] Six off the bench for Annabelle En
[20:59] 24-2.
[21:01] But talking with Nvea Galloway in
[21:03] particular and I think any coach has
[21:05] pollarded commits the air and pass. The
[21:09] hardest part and I imagine everyone on
[21:12] that coaching staff, Doug Johnson,
[21:14] Latoya Turk, and Maggie Jones can speak
[21:16] to this. The hardest part is you want to
[21:19] go out there and play for them, but
[21:21] obviously
[21:24] >> you're not eligible.
[21:27] But Latoya
[21:29] >> logged a lot of basketball in her
[21:31] heyday. Played at Dasal and Washburn.
[21:33] Started in front of Kim Bell. She's got
[21:36] two shots coming up.
[21:39] >> Kim was a few years younger. Kim of
[21:41] course would later play for the Gophers.
[21:46] >> Dart at the line after they drew the
[21:47] foul. This is
[21:51] number 10,
[21:54] Fran Su and Bulma.
[21:57] >> All right, one ball's live. Here we go.
[22:02] >> The sophomore
[22:11] >> or Clinton, one of the two. I see two 10
[22:14] listed. We'll get that sorted out. And I
[22:18] mentioned that not to excuse myself, but
[22:20] on the roster that I have,
[22:23] I'll double check. Here's a three from
[22:25] the Titans, that was O Sani. That's
[22:28] offline. But on the roster I was given,
[22:31] there are two 10s listed, but they
[22:33] combine the JV and varsity players into
[22:35] one document, which makes things a
[22:37] little trickier. So
[22:40] on screen and on one of the documents we
[22:43] saw Adriana Clinton,
[22:45] but I'll check the scorebook at halftime
[22:48] to make sure we know which 10 that is.
[22:50] So don't be alarmed. It's just one of
[22:52] those quirks you run into at high school
[22:55] games from time to time. Another three
[22:57] for the Titans. That is long
[23:00] as Tartan is tapping into their bench.
[23:11] 24-2.
[23:15] >> Tartan using this opportunity to get
[23:16] some of the backups in there. Pard with
[23:19] the takeaway and she gets
[23:23] hit
[23:25] I believe.
[23:26] >> Reaching for
[23:28] Kon Padilla for the foul.
[23:31] >> That is her first.
[23:37] checking back in along with a car. Full
[23:40] time out turns to the Titans.
[23:44] >> Tarden will take a timeout.
[23:51] And if this were one of my broadcasts on
[23:53] my channel, I would probably run down to
[23:55] the scores table right now to find out
[23:57] which number 10 is out there. But
[24:00] no worries. 9:17 left in the first half.
[24:07] >> Tart looking pretty spry. Here's a look
[24:08] at the Metro East. This is the
[24:10] conference opener for the two teams. In
[24:13] fact, it's the conference opener for
[24:14] several of the Metro East members
[24:17] tonight. Two Rivers and Hill Murray
[24:19] going at it as we speak.
[24:24] By record, Two Rivers off to the best
[24:26] start, but in terms of teams to watch,
[24:29] Hill Murray at 2 and one. Their one loss
[24:31] came against Durham Hall and that was a
[24:33] close one. 8479.
[24:35] The Pioneers, you'll see them later in
[24:37] the year on SEC. We have their road game
[24:40] with Mameidi,
[24:45] >> but they've got another year of Maya and
[24:48] Ashley Wilson. Sarah Popar transfer from
[24:50] Mameidi to Hill Murray to give them that
[24:54] third option.
[24:57] Beyond that, maybe not a ton of depth,
[24:59] but they've got enough firepower in that
[25:02] big three to likely win the conference
[25:05] without much difficulty as North St.
[25:07] Paul
[25:12] >> will get the side out after the pass was
[25:15] tipped by Tartan. 11 on the shot clock.
[25:17] 854 left in the first half.
[25:23] Here's
[25:30] a three from the corner. Bullseye.
[25:33] Reeves to Jones.
[25:43] >> Alicorn Padilla.
[25:46] Charlotte Gris.
[25:48] Three is short from Funches.
[25:51] >> The rebound by Zea Reeves.
[26:03] >> As I'm watching this game unfold,
[26:06] >> possession.
[26:08] >> Polers with the arrow.
[26:16] >> North St. Paul.
[26:19] One area that I'm sure
[26:21] >> is a point of emphasis is floor
[26:24] awareness. We've seen a few errant
[26:27] throws by the Polers into coverage or
[26:30] out of bounds.
[26:34] And again, these are things that come
[26:35] with time.
[26:37] We get another tie up from Hernandez.
[26:39] That will give the ball to Tartan on the
[26:41] arrow.
[26:43] reading the defense.
[26:46] >> It's easy when you see someone like
[26:48] Madden Greenway or Tory Orline do it,
[26:52] >> but a game like this is a reminder that
[26:57] >> gaining such clarity is a process.
[27:01] >> Number 10.
[27:09] On the Tartan side, folks like Tia
[27:11] Elbert and Jesse Stansky
[27:13] thrived in those scenarios here. On the
[27:16] North St. Paul side,
[27:19] this is where experience will serve them
[27:22] well over time. Rebound for the Titans.
[27:25] This is Oasani.
[27:28] They swing it over to Hernandez.
[27:29] Straightaway three short. Punches tracks
[27:33] down the rebound.
[27:39] dribbles past one defender. Pulls up for
[27:41] the short corner Jay and she'll shoot
[27:43] two
[27:46] of that shot. Senior point guard two
[27:50] shots coming up.
[27:59] >> Tardan in their history made the state
[28:01] tournament once if you're curious back
[28:03] in 1995.
[28:05] 30 years ago.
[28:10] >> Bunches is on the board after that free
[28:12] throw make.
[28:16] >> Leading score for the Titans at 11.8
[28:20] knocks down the freebies. That makes it
[28:22] 26 to five.
[28:28] >> Unchappelle, the freshman,
[28:31] drew the foul as she strolled through
[28:33] the lane. Latoya Turk had a chance to
[28:35] catch up with her.
[28:37] >> She and I called many games together for
[28:40] various stations over the years.
[28:43] Told me number 10 could be a player to
[28:46] watch.
[28:47] More specifically, a player I will
[28:50] likely interview down the road.
[28:54] It's a reference to some of the
[28:56] broadcasts that I do where I will engage
[28:59] in postgame interviews with a key player
[29:01] or two because
[29:03] That's what this is about for me, but
[29:07] >> I'm not going to put that level of
[29:09] expectation on Unchappelle yet.
[29:12] >> It's not because I don't think she can
[29:14] get there. I just like to give players
[29:16] room to grow, be themselves, and let
[29:18] them write their own story. And
[29:22] if she does blossom into an elite
[29:24] player, she'll be all all the better for
[29:27] it. And that's what this is about.
[29:30] And the long two goes down for Tartans
[29:33] Maya villain to wave up. As JD Roth, the
[29:36] longtime game show host once said,
[29:38] there's enough waves for everybody.
[29:45] >> V. Jones up top
[29:50] >> over to Unappelle.
[30:02] Six on the shot clock. Jones used up the
[30:05] dribble
[30:07] >> and put the Polers in a tough spot. She
[30:09] has to take the three and hits.
[30:12] I'll be a dingdong dang. I thought that
[30:15] play was going nowhere.
[30:18] B. Jones determined to get that play
[30:20] somewhere.
[30:25] Tarton looking for the answer. That
[30:27] three rattles out and Reeves with the
[30:30] rebound, but she threw it right into
[30:31] En's hands who puts it up and in, plus
[30:35] the foul.
[30:40] >> And that's another example of the
[30:42] learning curve, the growing pains that
[30:46] molding that comes with the territory
[30:49] when you're picking up on these
[30:51] tendencies for the first time.
[30:53] understanding
[30:55] >> where players are, where your teammates
[30:56] are, and where to send the ball. Because
[30:59] we talk about this a lot in hockey,
[31:01] turning the puck over in your own zone.
[31:03] Well, in basketball, it's just as
[31:05] treacherous turning it over
[31:08] underneath your own basket as we get a
[31:11] five-point play from Angelina Funches
[31:15] following the rebound. St. Paul looking
[31:18] for the answer. Their long ball goes off
[31:20] the back iron. Carrick Kay with the
[31:23] rebound. 33-9 to score. Hernandez zips
[31:27] it underneath to Enay for two more.
[31:30] Annabelle Ench.
[31:35] Averaging six. So this is not highly
[31:39] unusual for her, but I don't think
[31:41] she'll complain.
[31:43] Another tip for Tart. North St. Paul
[31:45] will retrieve. And again, you can go to
[31:47] the back court if the other team touches
[31:48] the ball.
[31:52] And Japelle nearly got herself in
[31:54] trouble.
[31:56] Lindsay's three is offline.
[32:08] >> Villain Noeva pulls up.
[32:12] Nobody covering Enay. And that will
[32:14] allow her to retrieve, but Mia Hernandez
[32:17] cut a little too late.
[32:21] A miscue from the Titans. Pard steps
[32:24] into the three and rattles it home.
[32:26] That's un Chappelle, I should say. But
[32:28] I'm sure Pard won't mind the plug.
[32:31] Unchappelle with her first field goal.
[32:37] >> Bunches working off the screen. Bounce
[32:40] pass to Enay. That's how you do it.
[32:49] 3712 Tartan looking pretty spry.
[32:52] Unchappelle
[32:54] the freshman has her pocket picked. Mia
[32:57] Hernandez gets into the cookie jar and
[33:01] >> will have to go to the free throw line
[33:03] to get some. running her way to the
[33:04] line. Two shots.
[33:07] >> Here we go.
[33:13] >> Starting in the bonus.
[33:16] >> And Hernandez with four points looking
[33:17] to add to that here. Averaging eight per
[33:20] game
[33:22] coming into this matchup.
[33:26] And again, one of the main stays for the
[33:28] Titans over the years. Even though
[33:31] >> there hasn't been much to speak of in
[33:33] terms of
[33:35] wins, milestones, or other accolades,
[33:39] they were 11 and 17 a year ago.
[33:44] >> But there's more to this sport than
[33:45] records.
[34:02] Hernandez blanks.
[34:05] >> Tartan four of nine at the line.
[34:12] They're doing more than enough to
[34:16] lead by a bundle.
[34:22] Unchappelle
[34:24] used up the dribble. Hernandez gets in
[34:26] her face again and will be called for
[34:28] the push. Tarn of fouls to give.
[34:34] >> Hernandez
[34:36] in for the Titans number 14.
[34:42] Just the first foul on Hernandez
[34:46] as Latoya Turk looks on.
[34:52] >> Her brother, the head coach, sitting
[34:54] right beside
[34:59] >> and Latoya spent a good
[35:02] deal coaching. She was part of the staff
[35:04] at Koma Park many years ago when
[35:08] they made their first ever trip to state
[35:09] back in 2016. Here's
[35:13] An Chappelle.
[35:17] >> That high arcing free throw of hers
[35:19] reminds me of Ari Gordon.
[35:22] >> Here's that Maple Grove.
[35:26] Unchapel the freshman
[35:31] gets them to fall. Needed a couple of
[35:33] Plinko bounces, but they go in and
[35:35] that's what counts.
[35:40] 3714
[35:43] >> Tardan once again tapping deep into
[35:46] their bench. Here is Oyasani long two is
[35:50] long and the rebound.
[35:52] Tough break there. Asia Crawford had it
[35:55] but could not get firm grip.
[35:58] >> So Tarton will get a few more chances.
[36:01] The fake, the three is there. Payton
[36:04] Love with her second tray.
[36:19] on Chappelle driving kick. Now they
[36:22] reset. That's Pard. The runner. She came
[36:25] in at full speed. Gets it to go.
[36:32] Love needed a while to find her
[36:34] three-point form, but she's hit a
[36:36] couple. Lining up for another one.
[36:38] Bullseye.
[36:44] >> Payton Love with a serious Love
[36:47] connection.
[36:49] Father dribbled it off of her foot.
[36:54] Martin takes the ball back.
[36:57] Spin move and free throw's coming.
[37:01] Clinton
[37:03] >> for number 10.
[37:06] >> It is Clinton. Okay. So, the public
[37:08] address announcer confirming that it is
[37:09] Clinton.
[37:11] >> If you're
[37:13] not with us earlier, there were two tens
[37:15] listed on the roster. I have one of them
[37:17] was
[37:21] for another player, but it is Adriana
[37:23] Clinton, the eighth grader, and she is
[37:25] on the board.
[37:31] one line. Here we go.
[37:38] >> Clinton will take the split, but Sheree
[37:42] unable to control the rebound. And
[37:44] another second chance opportunity awaits
[37:48] the Titans with two and a half to go in
[37:49] the first.
[37:54] >> Live on SEC.
[37:57] Catch and shoot. This time Sheree gets
[38:00] the board.
[38:07] >> Holder's trying to thread it inside.
[38:09] Contact and a foul.
[38:14] It's on
[38:19] >> Tartan. So one and one time for Zoe
[38:21] Reed. situation. Number two, Zoe Reed to
[38:24] the line for one and one.
[38:36] >> Empty possession for the Polers.
[38:41] >> Well, Yasani, she wants a three. Halfway
[38:43] down, but not all the way. Rebound on
[38:46] Chappelle.
[38:51] steps into her own shot, comes up short.
[38:53] Payton Love snatches the rebound goes
[38:57] for a stroll, connects with Clinton.
[39:00] >> Dead ball rebound to North St. Paul.
[39:03] >> North St. Paul basketball just under two
[39:06] minutes to go in the first half.
[39:16] >> North St. Paul, of course,
[39:20] the home of the giant snowman,
[39:23] which you can see right along Highway 36
[39:27] and at least until Tuesday
[39:32] >> when temperatures are expected to reach
[39:34] almost 40, uh, our snowman will have
[39:37] some neighbors. on Chappelle. Back to
[39:39] >> Unappelle
[39:41] >> will make herself a neighbor at the free
[39:43] throw line.
[39:46] >> Two shots.
[39:50] >> She has six points.
[40:05] And we'll take the split there.
[40:08] >> Chappelle back in for the bowlers. 23
[40:13] Dean Jones.
[40:24] >> Padilla at the rock. Gets another touch.
[40:31] tried the runner. It looked like she was
[40:32] a little off balance in doing so.
[40:36] >> Sheree recovers the loose ball, but
[40:39] swarmed by the double. Howed and
[40:41] surrounded. Hernandez
[40:44] a little too strong. And that looked
[40:46] like a desperation heave on the part of
[40:48] Oyani. She gets back up and has a laugh
[40:50] about it.
[40:52] her way to the free throw line for two
[40:54] shots.
[40:58] >> Two shots coming for Oasani
[41:05] >> who came over from North St. Paul last
[41:07] year.
[41:14] It's not unusual these days to have
[41:18] students switch schools
[41:21] and remain in conference. In fact, it's
[41:23] not the first time Tartan has been at
[41:25] the center of such an exchange. Many
[41:28] years ago, one of their top players,
[41:30] Isaria Chevray, made the move from
[41:32] Tartan assembly
[41:40] and paired quite well over there. Here's
[41:43] a takeaway for Clinton
[41:45] >> gets pulled from behind under a minute
[41:47] to go. And a couple other examples
[41:51] >> involving our network of schools. Elise
[41:53] Deerlye
[41:56] transferred to White Bear Lake as a
[41:59] senior after playing for Stillwater.
[42:05] They're working off the screen. Lost the
[42:06] handle. Clinton
[42:09] has firm control of it. allowing her to
[42:12] drive in for the layup.
[42:15] >> So Clinton with her first field goal
[42:25] >> and then another change in this
[42:26] conference. Sarah Popart as we noted
[42:29] before played at Mameidi then moved to
[42:31] Hill Murray.
[42:38] Here we go.
[42:41] >> One of those interesting developments to
[42:44] monitor as time goes on at the prep
[42:47] level.
[42:49] North St. Paul once again harassed by
[42:53] that pressure defense from Tartan.
[42:58] When they sense someone in trouble, they
[43:00] get right in their grill, so to speak.
[43:02] Go Yasani
[43:04] looking to grill up a three-pointer.
[43:05] Can't do it.
[43:08] North St. Paul gets fouled and they'll
[43:11] have a chance to score at the line with
[43:13] 4.9 seconds on the clock.
[43:18] >> Balls on the car K bonus situation.
[43:24] Double bonus coming up.
[43:29] >> Eighth grader V Jones. Two shots coming
[43:31] up.
[43:35] >> V Jones with a couple of triples.
[43:45] NBA back in the tit line up.
[43:51] >> All right, one shot. Here we go.
[43:54] >> I didn't know the cheerleaders had
[43:58] a mild taunt
[44:00] if a player
[44:02] >> doesn't hit a free throw, but B. Jones
[44:03] does get the split. Tartan has time for
[44:05] one more if they hurry.
[44:08] If it goes,
[44:10] Carrick Kane comes up short, but an
[44:13] astute first half nonetheless for the
[44:15] Titans. 4718.
[44:19] As we go to halftime,
[44:21] we'll come back for first half stats and
[44:23] analysis. This is high school girls
[44:24] basketball on SEC.
[44:55] sit up team. When I look around this
[44:58] room, I see a fighting team of brave
[45:01] antibodies. But the flu is coming in
[45:04] strong, so I won't sugarcoat it. I need
[45:07] each one of you on your aame. The good
[45:10] news is, Anthony, the human body we've
[45:13] been tasked to protect, just got his flu
[45:16] shot, which supplied us with brand new
[45:18] gear to defend against the flu. That's
[45:20] right. We've upgraded our game with this
[45:22] new equipment. They give you a little
[45:24] extra boost. So, let's go fight for
[45:27] Anthony, for his mom, his co-workers,
[45:31] that nice lady Patricia that lives down
[45:32] the street with the cute dog. In the
[45:35] face of viral adversity, we make Anthony
[45:38] thrive so he can protect himself and the

[45:57] Emma, did you hear?
[45:59] >> Todd's in the hospital.
[46:01] >> Who's Todd? He got a collapsed lung from
[46:04] vaping. He thought it was cool.
[46:06] >> Not cool.
[46:08] >> Promise you won't vape, Emma. It can
[46:09] lead to a lifelong addiction. And we
[46:11] can't be friends if your lungs collapse.
[46:14] >> Bogus.
[46:15] >> Wacky sitcom teens aren't the best
[46:17] people to talk to your kid about vaping.
[46:19] >> Hey, you got a minute?
[46:21] >> You are. Start the conversation with
[46:23] your child about vaping today.
[46:26] >> Buckle up.
[46:27] >> Nobody is more prepared for an emergency
[46:29] than Dog Man
[46:30] >> with all your kung fu skills and your
[46:32] K942 or whatnot.
[46:33] >> But for the rest of us, a good plan goes
[46:35] a long way.
[46:36] >> COME ON, LET'S GO.
[46:37] >> SO whether it's an unexpected disaster
[46:39] or the world's most evilst cat bent on
[46:42] destroying all dogooders,
[46:44] >> destroy all dogooders.
[46:45] >> You can help your family be ready for
[46:47] anything.

[46:56] >> I never realized that I'd be taking care
[46:59] of a 2-year-old and a 9-year-old on my
[47:01] own. Sometimes as dads, I I think we're
[47:04] too hard on ourselves. We get down on
[47:07] ourselves on not being able to, you
[47:09] know, we're the providers, but we also
[47:11] have to learn to take care of ourselves.
[47:14] Self love made me a better dad because I
[47:17] realized my worth.
[47:20] My daughter Isabella recently had a
[47:24] graduation into high school and it was I
[47:27] got emotional because I saw pride in her
[47:30] eyes. I saw my daughter have have her
[47:33] own selflove and I saw the hard work of
[47:36] of me being that dad 24/7 transfer to my
[47:40] my teenage daughter.
[47:44] The word father means means a lot to me
[47:47] when when I give my love to my children
[47:50] as a father. I can see it
[47:57] there. I was 16, divorced, remarried
[48:01] with the baby, another on the way, and I
[48:03] could barely read or write. Getting my
[48:05] high school diploma was a catalyst I
[48:08] needed. Now I have a bachelor's and
[48:10] masters and I became a teacher. When I
[48:12] look at all these success stories, I
[48:15] cannot help but think it all started by
[48:18] getting my high school diploma.

[48:33] >> My dad showcased a sense of love that I
[48:35] never had before.
[48:37] It felt like it was something that I've
[48:40] always wanted.
[48:42] I mean, he's not only my parent, like
[48:43] he's like my best friend.

[49:18] You're looking live at the future.
[49:21] Tartan's fifth and sixth grade traveling
[49:23] teams getting to flex their muscle for a
[49:26] brief moment. It won't be long before
[49:30] these young women
[49:33] rack up highlights and take names on
[49:35] this court. And that is what Tartan is
[49:37] doing right now to North St. Paul. 4718
[49:41] at halftime.
[49:44] Annabelle Enate leading the Titans with
[49:46] 12 off the bench. Payton Love with 11.
[49:49] Three triples. And really, it's just a
[49:51] culmination of Tartan's ball pressure
[49:54] leading to a lot of transition
[49:56] opportunities
[49:59] as we'll look at the first half
[50:01] highlights and they will be heavy on the
[50:03] Tartan side.
[50:09] Izzy Disour got things started early.
[50:12] That's her first and only bucket
[50:15] and Ella Oasani
[50:19] with her lone field goal so far. But
[50:21] here is one of the examples I was
[50:24] alluding to. Pressure.
[50:27] Tartan getting in the grill of North St.
[50:29] Paul leading to a lot of takeaways. to
[50:31] Annabelle Ening
[50:34] a good dose of fierceness around the
[50:36] rim. Payton Love needed a while to find
[50:38] her stroke. Once she did, it's been
[50:40] lights out as we noted. 11 off the
[50:42] bench.
[50:44] North St. Paul
[50:47] got a few moments
[50:50] like this
[50:52] impromptu three out of nowhere for V.
[50:54] Jones.
[50:57] Hit another one from the corner. She and
[50:59] Dviri Unchappelle,
[51:01] who we will see in this clip, knock down
[51:05] a three of her own,
[51:08] her only field goal so far. And they
[51:11] both have seven.
[51:18] That being said, Tartan putting their
[51:20] stamp on this one and it's looking
[51:22] likely they will make it three straight
[51:24] wins.
[51:26] We're just a couple minutes away from
[51:28] the second half.
[51:31] >> And a reminder, we'll be with you a
[51:32] couple more times in the month of
[51:34] December. But first, we got to go to
[51:36] break and then we'll be with you for the
[51:37] second half right after this.
[51:48] Heat.
[52:01] Heat.
[52:09] All
[52:30] right, buddy.
[52:31] >> Love is a lesson that doesn't end. It
[52:34] knows no conditions, so you better
[52:36] buckle in. Love keeps you on your toes.
[52:39] It never stops, only grows. Love isn't
[52:43] easy. It's a commitment, especially when
[52:45] they're being their most resistant.
[52:48] Love is finding the right seat so you
[52:50] can take a breath. But remember, love
[52:52] isn't lax. It always double checks.
[52:55] Check that your kids are in the right
[52:57] seat at nitsa.gov/theight
[52:59] seat.
[53:00] Danny, wake up.
[53:06] >> Danny,
[53:09] >> Danny, relax.
[53:14] >> Danny, are you talking
[53:18] >> Danny? Danny, she's overdosing.
[53:24] >> When no one else knows what to do, it's
[53:26] got to be you. Carrying the lock zone,
[53:28] you could save a life.
[53:32] I'm a different kind of threat.
[53:36] You can't call the cops on me.
[53:41] >> I don't even have to break in.
[53:45] I'm invited.
[54:24] Second half ready to start at Tartan
[54:28] High School in Oakdale
[54:30] High School girls basketball tartan.
[54:38] >> A win would give them three straight.
[54:40] It's looking that way as they lead 4718.
[54:58] North St. Paul
[55:02] >> ran a give and go. Got to the rim but
[55:05] couldn't get the finish and drawing the
[55:07] foul
[55:09] >> is Funches who had five points
[55:12] >> making contact with Dver Chappelle.
[55:20] Hello.
[55:30] >> Bunches the only Tartan player to reach
[55:33] 20 in a game this season. But I'd say
[55:36] the most notable
[55:39] trend in the first half
[55:42] was Tartan's ability to spread the
[55:44] offense around. Again, their leading
[55:46] scores coming from the bench in Enay and
[55:49] Payton Love in the first half.
[55:54] I suspect we'll see a lot of time for
[55:58] everybody on the Titans if this score
[56:00] remains as is
[56:03] on this Friday night contest.
[56:08] >> Darden will go on the road to play South
[56:10] St. Paul
[56:13] and a win there
[56:15] followed by New Prague who has been
[56:18] struggling so far this year. Two Rivers
[56:20] beat them by over 40 recently.
[56:26] Sheree
[56:28] got the ball back.
[56:31] North St. Paul getting a couple of
[56:33] fortuitous bounces, but Payton Love was
[56:35] there on defense.
[56:38] But
[56:39] >> it's reasonable to believe at least
[56:40] until the Mameidi game. We'll see what
[56:42] unfolds there
[56:44] >> as Enay
[56:47] scores the layup.
[56:49] Darden
[56:51] >> could bump up that win streak to five
[56:53] before they face Monidai. And the
[56:54] Zephers
[56:59] >> rebuilding as well. They have yet to
[57:02] record a win
[57:05] >> as they try to
[57:08] get themselves back on track.
[57:17] >> The key for both teams for different
[57:20] reasons is cohesiveness. How well can
[57:23] they form up together? Tartan with some
[57:26] new components, new coach and a new
[57:28] player. And North St. Paul, as we said,
[57:30] a lot of new faces
[57:33] that need time to
[57:36] understand as they lose track of the
[57:38] shot clock.
[57:43] >> Bowlers arrive
[57:46] shooting forward.
[57:50] >> Need time to understand all the nuances,
[57:53] intricacies
[57:58] that can mold them into
[58:02] contending status down the road.
[58:04] Straightaway three for Love. This one
[58:06] short.
[58:08] That is Unappel who led the box out for
[58:10] the rebound.
[58:12] And the ball knocked away briefly.
[58:17] Into the lane she goes.
[58:20] Draws the foul on route.
[58:23] And two more free throws coming.
[58:26] >> Number 10 Deappelle
[58:32] on Chappelle.
[58:45] Just like the other one.
[58:55] >> Whoops.
[58:57] Payton Love.
[58:59] I don't know if you saw that.
[59:03] That's a split for Chappelle, but Payton
[59:05] Love
[59:07] >> twirled herself onto the floor. On
[59:09] Chappelle would have had a doover had
[59:10] she not made that last free throw, but
[59:13] Pton Love
[59:15] shrugs it off and knocks down the elbow
[59:17] jumper just like she planned.
[59:20] Three on the way from Lindsay
[59:22] off the back iron tie up
[59:26] and Tart with the possession arrow goes
[59:29] to North St.
[59:32] Payton Love
[59:35] >> having herself a game.
[59:37] >> Forward.
[59:39] >> First time she has reached double digits
[59:41] this season.
[59:53] >> En low finds Hernandez
[59:57] >> short on the jumper. un Chappelle with
[60:00] the rebound.
[60:06] That's a couple of boards over the last
[60:08] minute or so. Hollard
[60:11] throws up a wild shot.
[60:14] May have tried to draw the foul. On the
[60:17] other end, Hernandez does draw the foul
[60:19] as she takes a hit from Naella Smith.
[60:25] Junior guard two shots coming up and
[60:28] falls tang to Smith.
[60:41] >> Hernandez four points in the first half.
[60:54] and car back in the Titan lineup.
[61:00] >> That replay confirms.
[61:03] >> No doubt about that foul.
[61:16] >> And Hernandez sinks the free throws.
[61:20] puts her at 10 of or puts the team at 10
[61:23] of 17. That puts her at six. Eye off the
[61:26] window and in. Lauren Lindsay
[61:29] >> scores her first bucket of the game.
[61:32] 5521.
[61:34] We are approaching the Mercy rule
[61:35] threshold, which is 35 or more after 9
[61:38] minutes have gone by in the second half.
[61:40] The runner for Hernandez
[61:43] comes up long. Pard with the rebound.
[61:45] Hernandez looking to poke it away.
[61:49] Pard can't get the bounce. Dead ball
[61:52] rebound to North St. Paul.
[61:56] >> Subing in for the Titans number 24.
[62:13] >> Hernandez with the rebound.
[62:17] As Sani completes the fast break for
[62:20] two,
[62:22] >> the freshman with seven
[62:27] >> having herself a time.
[62:34] >> Unchappelle fouled on the three and
[62:36] Hernandez
[62:38] laughing in disbelief. But
[62:41] >> it's one of those situations where
[62:43] Unchappelle was leaning into it. Usually
[62:47] an indicator of a player's range is how
[62:50] they square up with those long balls. Do
[62:54] they lean into it or do they stay
[62:55] straight up? But Hernandez giving
[62:57] Unchappelle
[63:00] a reprieve with the collision. And how
[63:03] many times have you heard
[63:05] the frustration of fouling a jump
[63:08] shooter, especially from that far away?
[63:12] >> But on Chappelle,
[63:16] adding her numbers at the line.
[63:24] >> Feels like they're going to send in
[63:26] everybody before this game's out. That's
[63:27] Hassa Aden, the senior
[63:30] >> with their first minute of action.
[63:34] >> But somebody jumped the line, so we'll
[63:35] have a doover.
[63:40] Here we go.
[63:47] So officially Unchappelle is two of
[63:50] three.
[63:55] >> Hernandez
[63:58] >> trying to hand it off to Aden. North St.
[64:00] Paul deflects it out of bounds.
[64:19] Disore
[64:20] back to Hernandez.
[64:25] >> Adden
[64:27] got in there for the rebound, but threw
[64:29] it right to Pard, I should say.
[64:31] Unchappelle
[64:33] gets her own miss and gets the Plinko
[64:36] bounce for her second field goal.
[64:40] Autumn was in a tight spot, but it goes
[64:41] back to what we were saying
[64:44] with North St. Paul among our
[64:45] observations. You have to be mindful of
[64:48] where players are when you are looking
[64:50] for that escape route.
[64:54] >> North St. Paul with the deflection, but
[64:55] a foul on Pard as she was trying to
[64:59] disrupt Gorgon.
[65:17] And Hernandez will want that pass back.
[65:20] >> I think what happened was a breakdown
[65:22] along the route. Hernandez was expecting
[65:24] someone
[65:28] >> to back her up
[65:31] >> outside the key and no one was there.
[65:34] Reminiscent of that Minnesota game on
[65:36] Sunday where a series of miscues on the
[65:40] part of the golfers ended a shot at an
[65:43] upset number and we're at St. ball from
[65:48] Tackle.
[65:52] >> Both teams trade the ball though.
[65:54] Hernandez left alone, so she'll launch
[65:56] and drill the three.
[66:02] >> That gives her nine.
[66:04] 6025.
[66:16] >> An interesting
[66:19] trend as Hernandez leaps up for the
[66:23] steel.
[66:25] She's got Unchappelle one-on-one and
[66:27] wins that battle in the paint.
[66:30] Hernandez.
[66:31] >> Hernandez up to 11.
[66:34] But so far,
[66:36] all of Tartan's wins have come when
[66:38] they've scored in the 60s
[66:41] >> on Chappelle missing the three-pointer.
[66:43] And again, leaning into that shot.
[66:46] That's something where over time,
[66:50] you'd like to see her stay straight up
[66:52] because when you lean like that, you're
[66:53] trying to get a little more oomph, a
[66:55] little more
[66:56] energy directing toward the net.
[67:01] Gorgon missing. trying again from 18.
[67:05] Reeves with the rebound
[67:10] and developing range
[67:13] that comes with time as well.
[67:18] We'll have a jump ball. Tartan with the
[67:21] arrow
[67:23] >> working out for Carrick Kay because
[67:25] nobody was there to retrieve it after
[67:28] she went to the floor to get the ball.
[67:31] for 15
[67:33] >> 1151 left in the second.
[67:36] >> 6225. Tardan
[67:40] >> will pick up their third straight win
[67:42] and start conference play with a
[67:44] victory.
[67:48] We've highlighted several of the
[67:49] connections and history involving these
[67:53] two teams.
[67:55] There's one more piece of it as Funches
[67:57] draws the foul. I'll share that in a
[67:58] little bit.
[68:00] >> Funes will go to the line for two.
[68:02] >> Back to the free throw line for the
[68:04] senior point guard.
[68:07] >> Fouls on power. Relax.
[68:10] >> That is your
[68:30] >> You did see the push from behind on Pard
[68:33] who picked up her fourth foul. Although
[68:36] that
[68:37] >> is inconsequential given
[68:41] the time and score.
[68:45] And then Funches
[68:47] with the sneak attack. Now the ball's up
[68:50] for grabs. It goes back to North St.
[68:52] Paul. Shot clock resets because we had
[68:53] an exchange of possession. And now Pard
[68:56] gets hacked. So she'll go to the line
[68:59] for a pair of free throws.
[69:03] line it up. Shoot two.
[69:04] >> But as Pa goes to the line, one piece of
[69:08] history I wanted to add, Amaya Sherro,
[69:10] we spoke of her
[69:12] >> earlier playing soccer,
[69:15] her aunt, a distinguished basketball
[69:18] athlete at St. Paul Central,
[69:21] part of the last group to reach the
[69:24] state tournament.
[69:26] And
[69:26] >> her aunt in attendance as we take
[69:28] another look at that foul.
[69:31] That would be Raina Shereo
[69:39] Pard missing the freebies.
[69:43] Villan Noeva looking to go all the way.
[69:46] Came up short on the floater.
[69:49] Here comes Unchappelle.
[69:51] A little too strong on the drive.
[69:54] Ball gets smacked around before the
[69:55] rebound makes its way to Gresjic.
[70:00] punches for three. Yes.
[70:10] And somebody
[70:14] accidentally threw a bottle on the court
[70:16] in celebration. One of the Tartan
[70:18] coaches, it looked like he's having a
[70:19] laugh about it. Official had a quick
[70:21] word with him.
[70:23] Not sure what that was about, but I
[70:25] don't think I've ever seen that happen
[70:26] where a coach accidentally puts an
[70:29] object on the floor.
[70:33] >> A couple more offensive rebounds.
[70:37] Bunches from the right side.
[70:41] Missed everything.
[70:44] >> But as we said before, North St. Paul
[70:49] looking ahead.
[70:51] You'll take wins when you can
[70:53] >> and we'll have a timeout with 10:21 to
[70:55] go
[70:56] >> in this game. And Harden
[70:58] >> 30sec time out for the bowlers.
[71:02] >> Looking at the rest of their schedule,
[71:07] they get St. Louis Park twice.
[71:11] How is that possible?
[71:14] With St. Louis Park being in the Metro
[71:16] West.
[71:18] Tartan scheduled to play in the Park
[71:20] Center Holiday Classic. AIO in St. Louis
[71:22] Park, their opponent. So that's how that
[71:26] arrangement worked out.
[71:29] In fact, let's take a look at what lies
[71:31] ahead. I don't know how long the win
[71:33] streak will go, but you have to think if
[71:35] you're a Tartan fan.
[71:39] There are a lot of games
[71:43] that feature solid chances of victory.
[71:45] Two Rivers could be tough. Hill Murray
[71:48] and Marinatha
[71:49] not too shabby. I don't know if they
[71:51] have the depth of personnel to hang with
[71:54] Providence Academy in section 52A, but
[71:58] >> Tartan could be a quiet sleeper.
[72:02] Hard
[72:03] >> nearly put herself
[72:06] >> in a pickle.
[72:07] >> Villain Noeva gets on top of Jones for
[72:09] the block and it will go back to North
[72:12] St. Paul.
[72:26] Jones
[72:29] over to Pard. Straightaway three
[72:32] short rebound. Villan Noeva
[72:38] >> gets control.
[72:41] Goes coast to coast. Maya Villanoeva
[72:44] with her second field goal.
[72:51] >> Another anticipation.
[72:54] Another robbery. Another fast break
[72:56] bucket.
[72:59] >> Gresic
[73:00] gives Tarton their first 70point game of
[73:04] the season. And Villaa not done yet. She
[73:07] wants an encore. She'll get one.
[73:14] >> The attentiveness up top giving Dart a
[73:17] series of steals and runouts.
[73:21] Another tip.
[73:24] Another takeaway.
[73:27] That is four straight, but Enay
[73:32] >> didn't look in full control on that
[73:34] drive. So, it won't be four straight
[73:36] steals, four straight scores for the
[73:38] Titans, but they've done more than
[73:39] enough.
[73:43] Like we said,
[73:45] even though the strength of schedule
[73:48] won't have you
[73:50] raising your eyebrows as Laura Lindsay
[73:53] connects on the 15-footer.
[73:57] Tartan is putting together some
[73:59] victories
[74:02] with a team of sleepers, if you will.
[74:04] Three drifts slightly right. Here's Enay
[74:08] >> who draws the foul.
[74:14] And again, we are in the mercy rule, so
[74:17] we'll be out of here in about eight
[74:18] minutes.
[74:25] >> Looking at the North St. Paul schedule,
[74:27] we teased it earlier.
[74:29] >> Finding victories for them a little
[74:31] tougher. It will depend I think how well
[74:34] they come together
[74:40] how well they can oil polish refine some
[74:43] of those intangibles that we take for
[74:45] granted as Mia Hernandez scores
[74:47] underneath. We take for granted when we
[74:50] watch some of the top teams in the state
[74:52] at the college level and when you get to
[74:54] the NBA WNBA
[75:04] I think of the players who I've
[75:06] interviewed over the years.
[75:10] >> Some of them reluctant or apprehensive
[75:12] or telling me of terrible experiences
[75:15] when they first picked up the ball only
[75:17] to enjoy it later.
[75:24] >> Lindsay to shoot two.
[75:27] >> Seven minutes to go. And
[75:34] >> as we noted, we have a few more dates in
[75:37] the month of December.
[75:41] And plenty of winter sports in January
[75:43] and February. Lindsay
[75:46] getting two points the hard way after
[75:48] missing at the line.
[75:58] with an opportunity for three.
[76:14] >> That puts Lindsay to seven. play. She's
[76:17] got seven.
[76:23] >> Hernandez winds up, races in for another
[76:26] bucket. And that puts Hernandez to 15.
[76:36] >> New season high for Mia.
[76:41] >> And she now holds the game high.
[76:44] Lindsay
[76:47] >> went across.
[76:49] >> Ball bounced around. Now Jones
[76:52] >> trying to get around a couple of
[76:53] defenders. Here's Amaya Sherro, the
[76:57] runner. Yes,
[77:02] >> Amaya Shirro
[77:08] >> plays a half of JV and as an eighth
[77:11] grader
[77:13] right now it's all about getting
[77:14] experience. Hernandez
[77:16] scores the tricky turnaround.
[77:20] 17
[77:21] B for
[77:24] Lindsay blocked by Hernandez. She
[77:26] gathers,
[77:28] finds a teammate.
[77:30] Clinton can't put it down.
[77:34] Jones the other way tries to take it all
[77:37] the way. Hernandez
[77:39] cut off her path.
[77:48] Clinton looking for the three. It's
[77:51] long. Rebound tips its way to Jones.
[78:01] lines up a three and buries it.
[78:05] >> 23 Jones.
[78:07] >> B. Jones. For a moment, I was watching
[78:09] to see what she was going to do and
[78:11] didn't look like she had an option
[78:15] in the playbook and
[78:18] saw one, went for it.
[78:22] >> Lindsay fakes.
[78:26] Tartan loading up the perimeter.
[78:30] >> Lindsay
[78:31] >> blocked by Hernandez and Mia this time
[78:34] will outrun her coverage
[78:38] and go up to 19
[78:40] on that block and run out. Mia
[78:44] offering some defensive prowess. And
[78:47] while again the score and result
[78:52] may not
[78:54] impress you if you're a Tartan fan,
[78:57] seeing Mia's
[78:59] tenaciousness on defense over these last
[79:02] few minutes
[79:04] is encouraging nonetheless.
[79:08] >> I often say there are two hallmarks that
[79:11] define the contenders from the rest of
[79:13] the field. Can you take care of the
[79:15] teams you're expected to beat and can
[79:17] you win the ugly games?
[79:20] >> As we approach the three-minute mark,
[79:24] >> in Tartan's case, this is the former
[79:28] >> and sure it's like NCAA men's and
[79:31] women's basketball when you get those
[79:33] non-conference games against the lower
[79:36] caliber teams
[79:38] which typically inflate records. I'm not
[79:41] a big fan of it, but it is what it is.
[79:43] You can't control the conference, but
[79:45] you can control your own destiny. And a
[79:48] performance like this from Tartan, even
[79:49] though they had a couple of miscues
[79:51] along the way,
[79:53] >> these are the performances that put you
[79:56] in position for those big moments.
[80:00] >> It may not generate much press or
[80:02] publicity. Okay, you were supposed to,
[80:04] right? Well, Thomas Academy,
[80:06] >> there are still things you can do
[80:09] to demonstrate your growth, your
[80:12] evolution, your willingness to learn and
[80:14] adapt. And I think we saw a lot of
[80:17] positives on the part of Tartan in this
[80:20] game. North St. Paul a few moments as
[80:22] well as Pard fires a deep three and
[80:26] sinks it. Why not
[80:31] for North St. Paul? Again, they have a
[80:33] higher hill to climb, a longer road to
[80:36] travel,
[80:37] and a lot of that has to do with gaining
[80:40] that awareness. Once they do,
[80:45] they'll find themselves in contention
[80:48] more often than not. It goes back to
[80:50] what we were talking about earlier,
[80:52] understanding
[80:54] >> floor awareness, spacing, where
[80:56] defenders are so that you can get those
[80:58] passes in cleanly as Tartan is going to
[81:00] run out of time.
[81:04] basketball
[81:09] here.
[81:19] >> And what looks like a small beginning
[81:21] for North St. Paul could turn into
[81:23] something massive down the road. It
[81:25] could be this season, it could be next
[81:26] season.
[81:28] You look at their roster, just the one
[81:29] senior and she didn't play tonight.
[81:32] Everyone else
[81:36] >> in theory would be available next year.
[81:40] And we've seen how much a year of
[81:42] experience can add up,
[81:46] but you have to give time and patience.
[81:48] And that can be tricky in this day and
[81:50] age
[81:53] with social media, instant gratification
[81:56] sometimes creeping in.
[82:00] But trusting the process and
[82:02] understanding that some goals,
[82:08] take years to achieve, that will go a
[82:10] long way for the Polers. And Tartan
[82:14] going a long way tonight with a season
[82:16] high in points. First time they've
[82:18] reached 80 in a game.
[82:21] And a few new season highs as well.
[82:22] Annabelle En 14 off the bench. Mia
[82:26] Hernandez a new season high as we'll get
[82:29] one more shot.
[82:31] That will do it. 8138. A wire-to-wire
[82:34] win for the Titans.
[82:39] >> Who scored the first 22 unanswered
[82:41] didn't look back again. Hernandez season
[82:43] high 19 points. Annabelle Enton Love
[82:46] coming off the bench and looking sharp.
[82:50] They both
[82:52] >> set new season highs. Love with the
[82:54] first double digit game of the year. And
[82:57] Darian Chappelle finishing with 12
[82:59] points. V. Jones with 10. Again, North
[83:02] St. Paul, they do have some building
[83:04] blocks.
[83:06] It will just take a little longer for
[83:08] that foundation to set in. And then for
[83:10] Tartan,
[83:13] this could be
[83:16] the middle of a pretty lengthy run
[83:18] depending on how they fare against some
[83:21] of their upcoming opponents. Again, I
[83:22] think that Mamemidi game will be a key
[83:25] one even though the Zephris don't have a
[83:26] win. As we take a look at highlights one
[83:31] more time,
[83:35] >> just an all-around great game for the
[83:37] Titans.
[83:40] Well, they still have
[83:42] some hurdles to clear before they are on
[83:44] the short list of contenders. This again
[83:48] helps them realize that mission because
[83:53] the wins you get here in these
[83:55] situations
[83:57] matter later on. And for North St. Paul,
[83:59] we got to look at B. Jones with one of
[84:01] her threes.
[84:07] when their threes are falling, good
[84:09] things can happen.
[84:12] It's all about efficiency, ball control,
[84:16] and again, those things will come
[84:18] together over time as we take one more
[84:21] look
[84:22] at the stats. And you can see
[84:26] they skew towards Tartan quite a bit.
[84:30] Free throws, three-pointers, and if we
[84:32] were to look at turnovers, rebounds,
[84:34] etc., the same thing.
[84:37] But this is all part of the seasonl long
[84:40] story and Tartan writing another chapter
[84:43] winning this edition of the district
[84:46] rivalry
[84:48] 81 38 they go to 4-1 North St. Paul goes
[84:52] to 1 and six. We're back next Thursday
[84:55] for hockey Simley and Tartan on SEC and
[84:58] then Tartan Mameidi boys basketball the
[85:00] Titans a front runner in 44A and then
[85:04] we'll take part in the White Bear Lake
[85:06] Holiday Classic. It's a boys girls
[85:08] event. One of those games Blaine and
[85:10] White Bear Lake on the girls side.
[85:12] Rochester Mayo will play a couple of
[85:13] games. They are one of the teams to
[85:15] watch in section one for 4A. So, a lot
[85:18] to look forward to as we wrap up the
[85:21] calendar year, but it's time to wrap up
[85:23] this broadcast. This is Mike Bean
[85:24] thanking you for watching live coverage
[85:26] of high school girls basketball on SEC
[85:28] Tartan Beats North St. Paul 8138. We'll
