[0:10] Spike is hammered down by [0:15] the park. Home run. [0:19] [music] [0:26] >> [music] [0:29] >> See you later. [music] [0:36] [music] [0:40] [music] [0:45] >> [music] [0:52] [music] [0:54] >> White Bear Lake is still on the hunt for [0:57] their [music] first victory of the [0:59] calendar year. They will look to snap a [1:01] four-game losing skid against a [1:04] Roseville team that is also trying to [1:06] get back on the winning track after a [1:08] couple of close losses in their last two [1:10] games. It's high school boys basketball [1:12] on SEC Sports. Mike beat him with you. [1:15] White Bear Lake in Roseville in the [1:17] suburban East on this Wednesday night. [1:19] We'll have more after the Star Spangled [1:20] Banner. [1:27] >> [music] [1:31] >> See [1:34] [music] [1:40] [music] [1:44] [music] [1:46] heat. [1:51] Heat. Heat. [1:52] [music] [1:57] [music] [2:01] Heat. Heat. [2:06] [music] [2:15] [music] [2:20] >> [music] [2:29] [music] [2:33] [music] [2:36] [applause] [2:41] >> With those pleasantries concluded, let's [2:44] get back to this matchup and give you a [2:47] sense of what to expect tonight here at [2:50] the Galvin Court live on SEC White Bear [2:53] Lake. They've been in a rebuilding phase [2:57] sitting at 3 and seven. Of course, their [2:59] section [3:01] loaded with topnotch competitors. Tarton [3:05] still undefeated. Cretton Derm Hall [3:08] always a contender. Eastridge dropped a [3:11] close one with Cat and Durm Hall last [3:13] week, but was Cedric Tomes who is [3:15] flirting with the state lead in scoring. [3:17] [applause] Those make for three tough [3:20] assignments on the Roseville side. Maple [3:23] Grove sits in their section 54A. The [3:25] Crimson coming off that big win over [3:27] Weisetta earlier this week. So these are [3:31] two sleepers as we look at the Suburban [3:33] East Conference standings. White Bear [3:34] Lake sitting at 2 and three. Roseville 2 [3:36] and four. [3:40] >> It will be tough sledding for the two [3:43] teams it would seem. [3:46] As we said, White Bear Lake, they have [3:49] not won a game since the start of the [3:52] calendar year, and Roseville has lost [3:54] their last two. Of course, we're only a [3:56] couple of weeks into 2026. [4:01] [cheering] [4:04] As we take a look at our key matchup, [4:07] Micah Whiscus, based on the data we [4:09] have, there are a few games missing, but [4:11] he's averaging about 18 points per game. [4:16] on a Roseville team that again had just [4:19] a couple of [4:22] >> close losses in their last two games. [4:24] They ran into the buzzaw that is Durham [4:26] Hall and Colin Piper the man to watch [4:29] for White Bear Lake averaging just over [4:32] 20 a game. [4:36] When you do a deeper dive into those [4:38] numbers, Roseville has a couple of [4:39] double digit scores in Micah Whiscus and [4:42] Carter Brendan for White Bear Lake. [4:43] Colin Piper, the only player in double [4:46] digits. And as we have noted [4:51] throughout our coverage, teams that have [4:53] one big score and then [cheering] a few [4:55] role players who chip in, the challenge [4:58] will be getting that consistent level of [5:01] support. But to give you a sense of how [5:03] the season has gone for White Bear Lake, [5:06] they lost a close one with Stillwater in [5:09] their last meeting on Thursday. And [5:11] here's a sense of how the previous 10 [5:13] meetings have gone. White Bear Lake [5:15] sweeping the conference series a year [5:17] ago. Roseville getting a pair of wins on [5:20] White Bear Lake. In fact, you can see [5:22] the last several years it has gone back [5:24] and forth. Both teams trading conference [5:26] sweeps. Now they're in separate [5:28] sections. So [5:31] there's a rivalry, but perhaps not as [5:34] fierce as [5:36] the section rivals go. But it does give [5:39] you a sense of how these two have [5:40] flip-flopped [5:42] over time. [5:46] And I was about to say for White Bear [5:48] Lake, a lot of their games this year [5:51] against top level competitors have not [5:54] fared well. [5:56] They struggled to keep up with Cret and [5:58] Durham Hall. Lost that one by 41. Lost [6:00] to Hopkins by 17. Lost to Blaine by 15. [6:03] All top 10 [6:07] members in class 4A and return to the [6:09] head coach for White Bear Lake. Tom [6:11] Pritchley Jr. the head coach for [6:13] Roseville. White Bear Lake wearing the [6:14] orange. Roseville wearing the white. [6:16] [applause and cheering] And the entry [6:17] pass is intercepted by Brendan. [6:21] Whiskus [6:23] goes to Brendan way up top. Brendan will [6:26] make his move. The dribble drive gets [6:28] the roll [6:30] and Brendan gets us started. [6:36] Roseville [6:38] looks like they are starting out in a [6:39] 212. White Bear Lake trying to feed it [6:42] inside but nowhere to go. The kick out. [6:45] The three is long from Colin Piper. [6:48] Rebound put back by the Bears and [6:50] William McQuay. [6:56] We've got a couple of basketball games [6:58] for you in SEC this week. Nice move. The [7:01] pullup Jay comes up short. Rebound Logan [7:05] Ellers. We had [7:08] had to do some shuffling. So, we're here [7:10] today and we'll be at Mabidai on Friday. [7:14] [cheering] Here's a touch three. [7:16] Draining it is Zack Turner. White Bear [7:20] Lake up 52. [7:25] >> [cheering] [7:26] >> Roseville. [7:28] >> They've played just one ranked opponent. [7:29] That was Queen Durm Hall. And just like [7:31] White Bear Lake, they had a tough time [7:33] keeping up with CDH. [7:36] [applause] [7:37] That team always seems to have a new [7:40] crop of characters every year to cause [7:41] fits as Carter Brendan is hoping to [7:44] cause fits in this game. He drains a [7:46] three from the wave. [7:56] Roseville doesn't have anyone outside [8:00] of Cret and Durm Hall in the top 10 on [8:02] their schedule. Roseville and CDH of [8:04] course conference rivals. White Bear [8:05] Lake playing [cheering] a tougher cast [8:07] of characters. Here's a three from [8:10] McQuay. It drifts right. Dead ball [8:12] rebound to Roseville. [8:17] But we are at roughly the midway point [8:20] of the regular season [8:23] for boys basketball. [8:27] Brendan [applause] [8:29] stopped the dribble drive goes for the [8:30] hook. And that's always a tough shot [8:32] when you have a defender in your face. A [8:34] turnaround fade away. Not easy when you [8:37] can't shake off the defender. Coming up [8:40] too high was Logan Ellers. [8:42] >> Mad dash for the ball. Picked up by the [8:44] Bears. [8:46] They'll go crosscourt. Turner recognizes [8:48] it. [8:51] They'll feed it to a wide open Aaron [8:53] Hilderman. And that three was halfway [8:55] down but not all the way. [8:57] Another scramble for the ball. It's [8:59] still loose. Turner scoops it up. [9:02] Another chance for the Bears. Turner. [9:07] The shovel pass. The three short [9:11] [applause] [9:12] >> foul on White Bear Lakes. Colin Piper. [9:15] Of [9:17] [applause] [9:23] course, we were here a few weeks ago, [9:24] White Bear Lake hosting their first [9:26] holiday invitational a couple weeks ago [9:30] to make use of the Galvan Court. It also [9:32] is the site of the Twin Cities [9:35] Thanksgiving tip off, one of the girls [9:37] kickoff events for girls basketball. [9:41] Here's Wayne McGriff. [9:44] put on the brakes, lost the handle, and [9:46] Roseville take for the foul. [9:50] It will go on Mcgriff. [9:54] Wayne Mcgriff, I [9:58] presume, if I'm not right, someone let [10:01] me know. But I believe he may be related [10:04] to Kiana Mcgriff on the Roseville girls [10:07] team. [10:10] >> There's a bump from behind. Getting up a [10:12] little too high was Marcus Cross. And [10:15] two quick fouls for the Roseville [10:17] Raiders. [10:32] >> Hilderman [10:34] >> in the corner. Over to Piper. [10:40] Ellers [10:41] finds McQuay. He backs off. Aaron [10:45] Hilderman's three short [10:48] still at 55 and nearly going. [10:52] Everyone poking and proddding. We'll [10:54] have a jump ball. Roseville with the [10:55] arrow. [11:17] Ross [11:19] >> Whiskus. [11:24] >> Roseville swings it around. The three is [11:26] short from Brendan. Rebound collected by [11:29] Turner. [11:43] Roseville overloading the perimeter now. [11:45] They [11:47] go back inside [11:49] and they make a little too much contact [11:51] with Colin Piper. They're going to get [11:53] Roseville for grabbing the arm and the [11:55] foul will go to [11:59] Abdullah [12:02] Dion it won't seem. [12:05] >> Abdullah Dion yes is take for the foul. [12:15] >> Great vision off the inbound. Aaron [12:17] Hilderman collecting the pass from [12:18] Willie McQuay. Goes up and in. That [12:21] makes it 75 [12:23] Lake [12:27] hoping to end that tonight. Roseville [12:29] losing their last two. So, someone's [12:31] going to end the streak. We'll find out [12:33] who soon. [cheering] [12:35] Crosscourt skip. Carter Brendan [12:38] maneuvering through. [12:41] But once again, those fadeaways [12:43] not easy to convert. [12:50] [applause] [13:02] Three on the way for the Bears. It's [13:04] short as they were searching along the [13:07] perimeter. [13:10] Brendan brings the ball up after the [13:11] Bloomrist rebound. [13:16] Marcus Ross and that pass nearly [13:18] intercepted, but McQuay was just a half [13:21] step behind. That leaves Michael Whiskus [13:23] open for the three and he drills it. [13:28] 8-7 the score. [13:32] [applause and cheering] [13:34] >> Bounce pass bouncing right back to [13:36] McQuay as Roseville again loading up [13:40] underneath the White Bear Lakes. Sneaks [13:43] in there. Aaron Hilderman with a quick [13:46] turnaround shot. [13:55] >> [cheering] [13:55] >> Roseville nearly trapped along the [13:58] sideline. [14:01] [applause] [14:02] >> Now they work it around. [14:05] Whiskus [14:07] over to Abdulai Dion. [14:11] Shuffle pass off the dribble drive, but [14:14] White Bear Lake got their hands in the [14:15] cookie jar allowing them to pry it. [14:18] Roseville gets back for the block. [14:19] That's Dion. Stepped out of bounds. So [14:22] no save for the Raiders, [14:25] but a good heads up response [14:29] as White Bear Lake was looking to score [14:30] on the fast break. [14:32] That's worth another look. [14:35] Here comes Hilderman. [14:38] And you can't quite see it, but Dion, I [14:41] think, did get his hand up there. [14:42] Brendan was alongside him. [14:49] Nick Cardinis in the game for the first [14:52] time. [14:54] >> One of a few seniors on the White Bear [14:56] Lake squad. [15:00] One of four to be precise. Five on the [15:02] shot clock for Cardinis. [15:05] Bears see it, but that shot's not even [15:06] close. Zack Turner [15:10] had to hurry up and throw up a prayer [15:13] and [15:14] it will be a shot clock violation. [15:16] Roseville ball. [15:21] Yousef Abdelahi the 65 senior inbounding [15:25] the ball. [15:40] >> Working again from left to right. [15:41] They've done that a couple of times now. [15:44] Carter Brendan launches short. [15:48] >> Aaron Hilderman collecting the rebound. [15:55] Turner lobbs it to Nicholas Roy [16:01] and subsequently loses it. Brendan [16:04] into the lane. Pinched off. Roseville [16:07] recovers. Gets the high low play into [16:10] Carter Bloomquist for the bucket. [16:21] Ellers [cheering] [16:23] starts another swing motion now. White [16:25] Bear Lake going from right back to [16:27] center back to the right side. [16:31] The attack comes up a little strong for [16:33] Turner. [16:39] 10-9 Willis over White Bear [applause] [16:42] Lake. Offense a little shaky at the [16:45] moment. [16:48] >> Great cut by Abdulahi. [16:53] [cheering] [16:54] Give and go play makes it 12-9 in favor [16:56] of Roseville. First of two meetings this [16:59] year between the two Suburban East [17:01] contenders. Roseville [17:04] again playing a couple days ago against [17:06] Eastridge. Cedric Tomes scored his [17:09] 20,000th point in that game and [17:12] subsequently became the all-time leading [17:14] scoreer in Eastridge history. Three ball [17:16] is long for Turner. [17:19] Brendan [17:21] hands it off to Whiskus. He'll fire from [17:22] the baseline and connect. [applause] [17:28] [cheering] [17:29] >> Five for Whiskus. [17:38] 14-9 Roseville over White Bear Lake. [17:42] Turner. [17:47] Cardanis wants the three. White Bear [17:50] Lake looking for that three ball. And [17:52] it's reminiscent of the game that I [17:54] covered on Monday [17:56] with Marinatha and St. Cra Lutheran. [17:58] Here's a three for Roseville. Bullseye. [18:02] Carter Brendan up to eight. [18:05] [cheering] We've got ourselves a little [18:07] run for Roseville. I believe an 80 or a [18:09] 90 run. [18:15] And that will be enough for White Bear [18:17] Lakes [18:19] [cheering] Aaron Turner to take a [18:20] timeout. 837 left in the first half. [18:25] We've been talking a lot about scoring [18:28] marks and notable names. Cedric Tomes of [18:32] course going to Minnesota [18:37] next year. But let's take a look at [18:40] some of the early shots from Roseville [18:42] like that baseline jumper from Whiskus. [18:45] Sometimes it's just working through [18:49] those early bouts of inconsistency. [18:53] But a long way to go for these two [18:58] with about eight and a half minutes left [19:01] in the first half. There's Tom Critley [19:03] Jr. the Critley name synonymous with [19:07] boys basketball. Tom Critley senior, the [19:12] figurehead or one of them behind the [19:14] Minnesota boys basketball allstar series [19:18] that is held every April. Always a fun [19:20] showcase [19:22] for the graduating seniors. Had a chance [19:25] to cover it a year ago. So, a lot of [19:28] characters, a lot of names [19:31] that go into this sport. [19:34] White Bear Lake, it's been a while. [19:37] They've had some lean years as of late, [19:39] but they had some glorious ones as well. [19:43] If you ever want to entertain yourself, [19:47] one of my colleagues [19:51] recalled it being a part of that group [19:55] >> 41 years ago. The last time White Bear [19:57] Lake won a state championship in boys [19:59] basketball. You have to go back to the [20:01] St. Paul Civic Center days, 1985. [20:06] There was no Target Center, [20:10] no Grand Casino Arena. [20:13] >> We still had the Met. Mall of America [20:14] wasn't a thing yet. Three from Cardinis [20:17] is offline. [20:25] But yes, White Bear Lake does have some [20:27] state tournament history. [20:30] Of course, they've got the banners [20:32] commemorating the back-to-back state [20:34] championships in 84 and 85. [20:38] Came down for the Bears. Mcgriff on top [20:40] of it, forces the turnover [applause] [20:44] against the unsuspecting Jonathan Woods. [20:58] >> [cheering] [21:02] >> Roseville starting to get to White Bear [21:03] Lake and right now it's a matter of [21:06] Roseville finding their shots. White [21:08] Bear Lake having a hard time settling [21:11] for all those threes. The short range [21:13] runner is offline [21:15] by Max Amenson. [21:18] White Bear Lake ball. Nick Roy [21:22] throws it away. Couple of turnovers on [21:24] the Bears and they still look shaky [21:27] after the timeout, [21:29] but they don't look shaky on defense. [21:31] Colin Piper rises up [21:35] to send it away. [21:43] Carlan Piper 68. Three straight [21:45] turnovers on the Bears. Roseville with [21:47] numbers. They attack. But another missed [21:50] runner. Another empty possession. It's [21:53] one thing to create turnovers, but you [21:55] probably know this if you follow [21:56] basketball or football. Points off [21:59] turnovers. That is just as crucial of a [22:01] stat. [22:03] [cheering] [22:04] Piper. [22:06] And that runner [22:08] ricochet out. [22:12] So White Bear Lake still [screaming] [22:13] scoreless in their last four [22:15] possessions. Roseville missing a quick [22:17] three from Abdulahi. [22:22] And the last four possessions by my [22:24] account for both sides coming up empty. [22:28] Still 17-9. [22:31] White Bear Lake looking to move inside. [22:33] Ball is poked out. It will stay with the [22:35] Bears. [22:42] >> This goes back to what I was [22:43] referencing. [22:56] How efficiently can you move the ball? [23:04] >> Piper [23:06] spots are a cutting muay back out to [23:08] Piper. [23:13] Eight on the shot clock. Cardinis [23:18] goes in through the middle [cheering] [23:21] [applause] [23:21] and with one second on the shot clock, [23:25] Abdullah Dion [23:28] shuts the door on EMTT Anderson. [23:34] Just one second on the shot clock. [23:37] Turner gets it off but doesn't touch [23:39] rim. Another shot clock violation. [23:48] I don't know what the longest scoring [23:50] drought is following a timeout, but [23:54] it is interesting to note that [23:58] both teams have yet to score after White [24:01] Bear Lake used their first timeout of [24:03] the game a couple minutes ago. [24:07] Had three straight turnovers forced and [24:09] they couldn't score in any of them. [24:12] They'll try to pick up some points off [24:13] their most recent turnover force. Dion [24:17] into the lane. He's cut off looking for [24:19] help. Finds it in Brendan. [24:22] Now he shoots the fadea away and scores. [24:29] [cheering] [24:30] Fadeaways aren't easy to make. That [24:32] doesn't mean they're impossible. Brendan [24:34] up [cheering] to 10. [applause] [24:39] Cardinis [24:41] >> over to McQuay. His three bounces off [24:43] the backboard. Mcgriff comes up with it. [24:46] The White Bear Lake scoring drought [24:48] continues. Dion charges through. Draws [24:51] the foul. [24:54] >> Everyone [24:56] on Roseville looking for the shooting [24:58] motion and the officials will have a [25:00] talk about it. [25:07] But the Bears [25:09] have not scored for the last several [25:12] minutes. [25:26] [cheering] [25:27] [applause] [25:31] First few seconds. [25:37] So, [25:40] >> what [25:42] just occurred? The officials [25:45] having a chat. We'll show it to you on [25:46] the replay. Here is the drive by Dion. [25:49] It was a shooting foul and the ball had [25:53] Oh, I see what happened. The ball had [25:54] touched the backboard, but Colin Piper [25:56] touched the rim. [25:59] So, a goalending [26:01] [cheering] [26:02] call was made [26:04] and this is a three-point play as a [26:06] result. So, Dion [26:10] gets a couple of three points [26:16] and it's because Piper touched the rim, [26:19] I believe, as Dion's shot was coming [26:22] down. Can't touch the rim. Obviously, [26:24] you can't touch the ball in a downward [26:26] trajectory. So [26:28] that's why it was a shooting foul with [26:30] just one. It was a goalend followed by [26:34] the free throw. Hence the three-point [26:35] play. 229. [26:41] I believe Roseville scoring the last 14 [26:43] points unanswered. [26:45] They'll get called for the foul here. [26:47] And White Ber Lake will have a chance to [26:49] pick up points at the line. Colin Piper, [26:53] >> he has yet to score. [26:57] did reach 30 in a game earlier this [26:59] season against Woodbury. [27:10] [applause] [27:12] >> It gets off the goose egg and White Bear [27:14] Lake ends the scoring drought. [27:19] [applause] And as we were saying, when [27:21] you have teams like White Bear Lake, [27:23] Eastridge girls basketball comes to mind [27:25] where you have just the one scorer who's [27:27] consistently averaging more than 10 or [27:30] in Collins case just over 20. That does [27:34] put more of an onus [cheering] [27:36] on the rest of the squad. [27:39] It's not unlike Jack Janicki several [27:42] years ago. He was in a White Bear Lake [27:44] uniform. Of course, he's wearing a [27:46] Wisconsin uniform these days. They had a [27:49] big win last night of Minnesota. [27:52] A true barn burner in the words of his [27:55] mom who [27:57] is a former Miss Basketball [28:00] Minnesota winner 1992. [28:03] Four and a half to go. White Bear Lake [28:04] Ball after the Roseville miss. And more [28:07] free throws coming for Piper as he was [28:08] hacked [28:10] while [28:12] making the attempt. [28:21] No field goals for Piper. [28:35] >> His first attempt goes in and out as you [28:37] get a second look at the foul that [28:41] resulted in this current trip. [28:50] Empty possession for Piper [28:54] >> and another foul has to give for [28:57] Roseville. The double whammy. They turn [28:59] the ball over underneath their own [29:00] basket and then get take for the foul. [29:04] >> Double whammy. No big bucks. [29:10] Here's [29:22] Piper. He's been a little more [29:25] pedestrian as of late. That came up [29:27] short. [cheering] [29:30] >> He's bleeding his case, but from up [29:31] here, I thought I saw a push [29:35] on Carter Bloomquist. [29:38] And that will be his second personal [29:40] foul. So he'll head to the bench with [29:44] just two points. That [29:47] could pose a problem for White Bear [29:49] Lake. [29:52] They haven't scored a field goal [29:54] in about 5 minutes or so. Their only [29:57] points coming from Piper at the free [29:59] throw line. [30:01] >> They do get their hands on the ball [30:03] though, force the tie up and they hold [30:05] the arrow with 407. [30:13] >> [cheering] [30:21] >> McQuay along the key backs away. [30:27] Hildman [30:30] around his man [30:32] got the runner to fall [30:35] at the last second. and it looked like [30:36] he wanted to dish it out but went up [30:39] with it. Maybe Hilderman's intent was to [30:41] go up with it. Either way, it's a [30:43] bucket. 2213 ending the White Bear Lake [30:46] field goal drought and that will be [30:48] crucial until Piper can return. Here's a [30:51] deep three for Roseville. It clinks off [30:53] the front iron. Dead ball rebound to the [30:55] Bears. [31:11] McQuay [31:14] backs off [31:16] finds Hilderman. [31:19] Another quick passing set. McQuay [31:21] creating some space but could not get [31:24] enough shooting space. [31:27] >> Roseville with the ball. [31:32] Dribble drive and the finish for Carter [31:34] Bloomquist [31:36] >> barreling through the lane. [31:43] >> Roseville looking for the reach. It will [31:45] stay with White Bear Lake. [32:06] Turner [cheering] [32:11] >> gathers now looks to move in. [32:15] Another jump ball. Wayne Mcgriff [32:18] ready to greet him. [32:23] And he may have taken a harder hit than [32:25] I initially thought. [32:28] >> He's all right. [32:31] >> Just needed a moment. That was one of [32:33] those unstoppable force meets immovable [32:36] object cases. Here's another look. [32:39] There's the reach and [32:43] just a dead stop and [32:47] momentum carried them both down. But [32:50] that angle showed you, at least from my [32:51] vantage point, it was all ball for [32:53] McGriff. Just a clean play that resulted [32:56] in the jump ball. Timeout with 236 left [32:59] in the first. [33:07] >> Bears called the timeout. Here's a look [33:09] at section 44A based on QRF. [33:13] As I mentioned in the open, there are [33:15] three teams that [33:17] have a realistic chance of winning the [33:20] section. St. Paul Central could be the [33:22] sleeper, but that's a fearsome [33:24] threesome. Tartan, Crem Hall, and [33:27] Eastridge. Tardan still undefeated. Crem [33:30] Hall taking a couple of losses. [33:34] Eastridge, I think they have [33:39] a more interesting case. I'm not sure [33:41] they have the depth of durm hall [33:43] or tartan. We saw tartan of course [33:45] earlier this season against mameidi and [33:48] they are getting a lot of press on SEC [33:53] and elsewhere. If you've been following [33:55] boys basketball this season, [34:01] the Titans putting up some fabulous [34:04] performances [34:06] and they have a bevy of signature wins. [34:09] They frontloaded their schedule. It will [34:11] be a tough out. Here comes Roseville [34:15] and a rare miscue at least as of late. [34:18] [cheering] [34:19] Boonquist looking for Abdelahi and [34:22] Yousef. I don't know if he lost track of [34:23] the ball or just reacted too slowly. [34:26] Either way, [cheering] [34:27] it's a free ball for the Bears. And then [34:30] they cough it up off an Aaron pass. [34:32] Cardinus in that case needed a few more [34:36] inches of vertical and Cardinus not [34:39] exactly dimminionative. He's at 6'2. [34:43] Uh not even the tall guys can catch all [34:46] those high passes. [34:54] [cheering] Mike Lake in a 212 it would [34:57] seem. [35:01] Roseville looking for the three. They [35:02] find it. Carter Brendan [35:06] splashing his third triple with under [35:08] two minutes to go. [35:13] Another crosscourt again. White Bear [35:14] Lake without Colin Piper. He's sitting [35:16] with two fouls. [35:21] Putting a damper on the offensive [35:24] production. [35:26] Looking for the back door. They don't [35:27] find it, but Hilderman is there to clean [35:29] up the miss. He's got eight. [35:35] He's the one man in rhythm for [35:40] the unit in orange. Roseville, Brendan [35:43] with 13. As we said, Brendan and Whiscus [35:46] both averaging double digits in scoring. [35:48] Cardinis called for a foul. White Bear [35:50] Lake at three to give. [35:54] So they have a few more options when you [35:56] can get [35:58] two, three players. I often say in high [36:01] school basketball, boys or girls, you [36:04] need that big three [36:09] to make a serious run [36:14] because that gives you [36:17] the depth and the fortitude. [36:31] That's Whiscus [36:34] looking for the fade away. It bounces [36:35] away. [36:40] Turner [cheering and applause] [36:43] starting another set. [36:46] Woods had it. Now Turner [36:49] not at the high post. Woods again [36:53] backs off. Wiper Lake taking their time. [36:56] 35 seconds is plenty in the shot clock [36:59] era. That's what the college game used [37:01] to use. [37:03] Now it's winding down and another sloppy [37:06] pass. It bounced off the thigh of Logan [37:09] Ellers. [37:15] Roseville can hold for one and that's [37:17] what they intend to do. [37:24] >> [cheering] [37:25] >> Whiskus [37:29] >> had the ball knocked out. Jump ball. [37:31] Wiper Lake with the arrow. 2.7 seconds. [37:35] Enough time to [37:39] find a player and get a quick shot off. [37:42] Maybe a dribble or two [37:45] >> if they can get the pass in cleanly. [38:01] That's Piper. They brought him back in. [38:04] Not sure it would have counted. [38:06] Roseville had him smothered on that [38:08] final 2.7. And that takes us to [38:10] halftime. A lengthy scoring drop for [38:13] White Bear Lake, enabling Roseville to [38:16] build a sizable lead 2715 [38:19] at halftime here in Galvinc. Sometimes as dads, I I think we're [41:18] too hard on ourselves. We get down on [41:20] ourselves on not being able to, you [41:22] know, were the providers, but we also [41:24] have to learn to take care of ourselves. [41:27] Self love made me a better dad because I [41:30] realized my worth. [41:33] My daughter Isabella recently had a [41:37] graduation into high school and it was I [41:40] got emotional because I saw pride in her [41:43] eyes. I saw my daughter have have her [41:46] own selflove and I saw the hard work of [41:50] of me being that dad 24/7 transfer to my [41:53] my teenage daughter. [41:57] The word father means means a lot to me [42:00] when I give my love to my children as a [42:04] father. I can see it [42:10] there. I was 16, divorced, remarried [42:14] with the baby, another on the way, and I [42:16] could barely read or write. Getting my [42:19] high school diploma was a catalyst I [42:21] needed. Now I have a bachelor's [music] [42:23] and masters and I became a teacher. [44:41] A lengthy scoring drought midway through [44:43] the first [music] half opened the door [44:44] for the Roseville Raiders to take [44:46] command as we look at first half [44:48] highlights. [44:50] White Bear Lake got off to a solid start [44:52] early getting [cheering] [44:54] a couple of quick buckets. That's the [44:56] only one for William McQuay. Roseville [44:59] getting an early answer from Carter [45:00] Brendan. First of three three-pointers [45:04] for the senior [cheering] [45:06] Hilderman [45:08] with the layup. Roseville finding that [45:11] outside shot, leading 87. Michael [45:15] Whiskus, one of two field goals for him. [45:17] It was 98. [45:19] Roseville getting a big block. [45:24] [cheering] White Bear Lake answering [45:26] back, but this is when Roseville made [45:28] their move. It was 98. They would score [45:31] the next 14 points unanswered. [45:38] Eddie defense playing a part in that. [45:45] Eventually, Aaron Hilderman was able to [45:47] get a runner that ended the field goal [45:48] drought. [45:50] Carter Brendan [applause] [45:52] nailing his third triple. And [45:56] there's a glimpse of the first half. [45:57] Roseville fairing better from [45:59] three-point land compared to White Bear [46:01] Lake. The Bears just the one triple. But [46:03] a 140 run giving Roseville that [46:07] comfy cushion at least for now. 2715. [46:10] Not an insurmountable margin for the [46:12] Bears. But they will have to do a better [46:13] job finding their shot in the second [46:16] half, [46:18] which will come up in just a couple of [46:19] minutes. This is high school boys [46:21] basketball on SEC. [46:34] Mom, [46:36] did you really need to buy two can [46:37] openers for our emergency kit? [46:40] [laughter] [46:40] >> I can't help it. [48:45] >> [music] [48:47] >> Perfect timing. We come back just as the [48:50] second half starts here at the Galvan [48:52] Court White Bear Lake in the middle of [48:55] January. [48:57] Dawn of a new calendar year in [48:59] Roseville. Mcgriff cut left when [49:02] Whiskers wanted him to turn right. [49:11] It took a little while to build that 140 [49:13] run. You may recall White Bear Lake [49:15] using their first timeout. Roseville [49:16] forcing three turnovers and failing to [49:18] score off of any of them. [49:22] The dump down [49:25] [applause] [49:27] free throws coming for Aaron Hilderman [49:29] in the first half. Hilderman leading the [49:31] Bears with eight points. No one else [49:33] with more than three, but with only 15 [49:35] points in the board, that probably [49:37] wouldn't surprise you. Carter Brendan [49:39] leading Roseville with 13 points. [49:41] Whiskus has five. So, we've got [49:45] two teams led by two solo efforts thus [49:49] far. [49:51] Not a lot of free throws. Wiper Lake two [49:54] of four. Roseville just the one which [49:57] they made. That was a three-point play. [49:58] The only points for Abdule Dion. [50:04] >> [cheering] [50:05] >> Deer knocks down the free throws here [50:08] to make it 2717. So overall a quick [50:12] moving first half. [50:14] Not many fouls, not enough to warrant [50:17] trips to the free throw line. Anyway, [50:22] Brendan [50:24] gets hacked and we have a couple of [50:26] early fouls to start this second half. [50:30] Three secondary is first team first. [50:43] >> Good move [50:46] and a good block. White Bear Lake kept [50:48] it in play. William McQuay with the [50:51] awareness [50:53] >> to pick up the ricocheted ball and he [50:56] was inbound. So, White Bear Lake could [50:58] play on. [51:02] >> Got a couple of looks, [51:05] but some frustrated members of the White [51:08] Bear Lake side. No points for the Bears. [51:12] Whiskus [51:14] tried to lean that one in. Couldn't do [51:16] so. That's not easy to pull off either. [51:20] We talk about the fadeaways. Trying to [51:21] lean through against a squared up [51:24] defender is a tricky task. [51:30] >> Quick little triangle on Cardinis. [51:32] [cheering] [51:34] Sinks the three. [51:38] [cheering] [51:42] He's on the board. Did not score in the [51:44] first half. [cheering] 2720. [51:48] So, the Bears getting the start they [51:51] need to open this half. [51:55] [cheering] [51:59] Near the right corner. [52:01] Brendan on him. [52:05] Great cut. Great finish. William McQuay [52:10] from Hilderman. Timeout. Roseville. [52:12] White Bear Lake [52:14] scoring [52:16] the first three buckets of this second [52:18] half. Seven unanswered and a 12-point [52:21] lead shrinks to five. 2722. [52:24] 1547 left. [52:30] William McQuay [52:32] spotted an open lane [52:36] >> and made his move. [52:42] again. White Bear Lake looking to end a [52:45] four-game losing streak. One that has [52:47] seen them [52:49] >> get rattled [52:52] by several top flight teams. Osio beat [52:56] them 9552 [52:58] here at the Holiday Hoopla Classic. [53:00] Blaine, as we noted before, we had that [53:02] game came out with a 7661 win. Creek [53:05] Durm Hall took care of them pretty [53:09] easily. [53:12] And Stillwater edging them by four. [53:17] Four in a row. Five of their last six. [53:21] They'd like to get on the winning end of [53:24] some of these close games. [53:27] And they'll take on another tough [53:29] opponent, [53:31] at least in terms of record. Rochester [53:33] Mayo will come up here a week from [53:36] Saturday for a Saturday night contest. [53:41] Then St. Paul Central will see them on [53:43] Valentine's Day. So, we know who White [53:47] Bear Lake State's going to be. [53:50] I'll show myself out. Back to action [53:52] here. White Bear Lake zoning up, it [53:55] would seem. [54:02] and Dahi [54:04] over to Brendan. Roseville not afraid to [54:07] mix things up when I spoke with Tom [54:10] Pritchley Jr. Five to shoot for Whiskus. [54:12] He sees the clock goes up. It's long. [54:14] Abdulahi collecting the weak side [54:17] rebound. The three off the heel. [54:21] But Tom Critley Jr. told me he will [54:24] usually rotate [54:26] that fifth player on the starting five. [54:28] He hasn't had [54:30] a consistent one per se. Looks to change [54:33] things up a bit. White Bear Lake. [54:35] Piper looking to move in. Couldn't do [54:37] so. Cardinis back to Piper after the [54:41] reset. Inside to Hilderman. The kick [54:44] out. Cardinis three short. [54:47] Dion with the board. [54:52] Brendan [54:54] to Dion. [54:58] White Bear Lake still in zone formation. [55:02] The kick out. The three for Dion. Long. [55:06] White Bear Lake maybe daring Roseville [55:08] to beat them from the outside. Brendan [55:11] makes a move inside and hits the pull [55:14] up. [55:18] >> 29-22. [55:29] Roseville still in that 212. [55:34] Piper [55:36] with the post up. [55:38] That's his first field goal. Again, just [55:41] had two points and had to sit for a few [55:43] minutes in the first half with two [55:45] fouls. [55:50] He would like to [55:52] >> rectify his lack of production in the [55:56] early going. [55:59] [applause] [56:20] White Bear Lake swarming. Brendan [56:25] Brendan [56:26] fell awkwardly. [cheering] [56:29] Everyone tumbling. [56:31] White Bear Lake will get the ball on the [56:34] possession arrow, but Brendan still [56:37] grimacing, still clutching his shoulder. [56:42] And the trainer will take a look with [56:44] 1325 left in the second. [56:51] >> You hope it's just a shoulder tweak. I [56:53] saw that happen to Madden Greenway on [56:56] Saturday when Providence Academy [56:59] beat Rochester Lord. [57:02] [applause] [57:06] And that replay shows the contact. [57:10] Nick Cardinus [57:13] making a sudden hit [57:15] with Brendan. It was inadvertent. They [57:18] were both making a play for the ball. [57:19] So, no foul, but when you [57:24] make that lunge and have [57:27] a sudden impact hit like that, it can [57:30] sting. [57:32] And it takes a minute to [57:36] subside. Same thing happened to Mana [57:38] Greenway, but came back after a brief [57:40] rest and dropped 42 on Rochester Lord in [57:44] what is [57:46] proving to be a sensational senior year. [57:49] Here's a straightaway three for the [57:50] Bears. It's long. [57:53] Roseville comes up with the board. [57:57] Fair Lake trying to pressure Roseville a [58:00] little bit. [58:03] >> [cheering] [58:05] >> Instead, they cough it up once more. [58:11] >> Dribble drive. Big foul. William McQuay [58:14] to shoot two [58:28] >> as he goes to the line. We'll take a [58:30] second look. [58:32] Didn't [58:34] see a ton there on the replay, but [58:38] >> it was enough to get the foul. [58:48] [cheering] [58:50] >> And McQuay with those free throws makes [58:52] it a one possession game. May not have [58:54] that feel to it [58:58] with the nature of this one. The fake [59:00] leads to a long two from the elbow [59:03] extended by Whiscus. [59:06] >> Those long twos, I know, can sometimes [59:08] frustrate coaches or fans, but they [59:10] still count [59:12] if they go in. [59:16] >> And if it helps Whiskus find some [59:18] rhythm, so much the better. Cardanis [59:22] Dion closed in to keep him from shooting [59:24] a three. White Bear Lake. I thought they [59:26] had to look. They'll go for the [59:28] fadeaway. Rebound Piper and oo that was [59:32] close. Nearly deflected it off of Ellers [59:34] and turned it over. [59:39] McQuay [59:41] to Cardinis. Eight on the shot clock. [59:43] Piper looking for a target. It's [59:45] Cardanus. His three rips through the [59:48] nylon. [59:53] We are even. [59:55] Milward. It's a two-point game. I stand [59:57] corrected. 31-29. [60:01] Roseville looking for the answer. [60:03] Abdulah can't give it to them. [60:06] [cheering] [60:07] Piper with the rebound. Roseville fans [60:09] wanted a foul. [60:11] A little bit of an elbow on Dion. Now [60:14] Piper getting a little more physical. [60:22] McQuay from 14. That would have tied it. [60:28] Foul on the Bears. 1117 left in the [60:31] second half. [60:33] >> Roseville losing their last two games. [60:36] White Bear Lake dropping their last [60:38] four. [60:40] One streak will end tonight. [60:43] That's because we have no ties. [60:47] >> But most of you knew that. [61:00] Piper returning to the bench after [61:02] picking up his third foul. [61:19] And the question for Aaron Turner, how [61:22] long [61:24] will it stay that way? [61:36] Three from the wing. [61:38] >> Short, but nobody covering Whiscus. That [61:40] allowed him to trail his own miss. [61:42] Brendan fakes. [61:45] Whiskus [61:48] couldn't get the shooting space upon [61:50] reception of the pass. Seven on the shot [61:53] clock. [61:54] Bloomquist [61:56] through a sea of orange. [62:00] gets hammered and he'll shoot two. [62:31] Bloomquist four points in the first [62:33] half. They'll take the split [62:40] >> and Roseville [62:44] >> takes a timeout. 10:45 left in the [62:46] second. 3229. [62:49] [music] [62:52] Both teams with three remaining. [63:01] If you just joined us, Roseville led [63:05] by as much as 13. They had a 140 run. [63:09] White Bear Lake [63:11] getting a rally to start the second [63:13] half. [63:17] And the road ahead for White Bear Lake [63:19] looks something like this. Irondale [63:21] coming up on Friday. We mentioned the [63:25] Rochester Mayo game. That will be I said [63:28] a week from Saturday. It is this [63:29] Saturday. I'm getting my dates crossed. [63:33] their first meeting [63:40] with Forest Lake, [63:45] followed by Eastridge [63:48] as White Bear Lake works its way through [63:50] the conference rounds [63:52] as well. So [63:55] the Bears, they have some more tough [63:57] challenges ahead [63:59] both within and outside the Suburban [64:02] East Conference. They already got a [64:04] taste of it with Queen Germ Hall and [64:05] Eastridge. Again, that's where Cedric [64:08] Tolmes is. [64:17] >> Cardinz in the corner. [64:20] finds Ellers [64:23] inside he goes and getting [cheering] [64:25] the friendly bounce is Aaron Hilderman [64:27] to make it a one-point game. White Bear [64:30] Lake [64:32] has not tied [64:35] or held the lead since they were up 98 [64:40] early in the first half. [64:43] Dion [64:44] blocked. [64:46] Ellers [64:48] making the move, but White Bear Lake [64:50] can't get the pass in cleanly [64:54] and the MSCU leads to a turnover when [64:57] the Bears had momentum at their grasp. [65:02] But there's the look by Ellers and it [65:04] was a clean block. [65:10] >> We've seen a few big swats in this one. [65:18] >> [applause] [65:22] >> Ross [65:24] to Brendan on the outside. Threading it [65:27] inside and unable to post up was [65:31] Bloomquist. Marcus Ross jumps in to keep [65:35] the possession alive and he will shoot a [65:37] pair. [65:54] That's Cross, I should say. Marcus Cross [65:57] and he gets on the board. [66:01] >> Roseville missing a few games. So, I [66:04] don't have a complete picture of Cross's [66:06] scoring numbers. [66:19] >> [applause] [66:20] >> But Cross paints a couple of free throws [66:22] in the Roseville picture. [66:25] William McQuay [66:27] zipping down the other end. Fouled on [66:29] the reverse attempt. So he'll get a trip [66:31] to the free throw line. [66:38] McQuay averaging 9.7 points per game [66:41] this season. [66:46] >> And another player who typically chips [66:48] in a few points, but apparently not [66:50] available tonight, Preston Krider. [66:55] I haven't seen him enter the floor. But [66:57] this is my first time seeing White Bear [66:59] Lake. So [67:04] trying to get acquainted with all the [67:05] story lines. It's a split for McQuay. [67:09] 3432 [67:16] in favor of Roseville. Win would put [67:18] them at 7 and five. Again, these two are [67:21] long shots in their respective sections. [67:24] [cheering and applause] [67:25] And William McQuay comes up long [67:28] with his defensive presence, snatching [67:31] it out of Cross's hands. [67:37] >> We'll stay with the Bears. As we said, [67:38] they have not tied or led since they [67:41] were up 98 [67:45] early in the game. [67:56] Piper returning. Remember, he has three [67:58] fouls. [68:00] So, this will be a key test of his [68:03] resolve and ingenuity. [68:06] Bounce pass Hilderman. Not quickly [68:09] enough for the three, [68:12] but good enough for William McQuay. Pull [68:15] up on the second chance. McQuay with [68:18] nine and he is fairing better in the [68:21] second half. [cheering] knocking down a [68:23] few free throws. Steal by Woods and the [68:26] layup by McQuay. White Bear Lake [68:30] retakes the lead for the first time [68:32] since they were up 98 [68:36] [cheering] [68:37] with 11 points. Nine of them in the [68:39] second half. And this is what we were [68:40] talking about. Can White Bear Lake find [68:43] other players outside their big man? [68:46] [cheering and applause] [68:57] Roseville ball. [69:00] >> Raiders led by 13. [69:06] Whiskus [69:07] extra pass back door to Bloomquist [69:17] Woods. Out he goes. [69:20] >> [cheering] [69:23] >> Roseville staying in that 212. [69:30] >> What will Whitebear Lake do? [69:34] [cheering] [69:36] Thriving in this second half, [69:39] but had the ricochet dribble off his [69:41] foot. Roseville with one-on-one [69:43] coverage. It's Whiskus. No. and he did [69:47] not get back in bounds in time. [69:55] We've seen a few too many [69:58] fast break looks come up empty. Those [70:00] are the bunnies, the plays you really [70:02] want to cash in on. [70:11] >> Hilderman [70:13] [cheering] [70:15] lost control of it. [70:17] Lost the ball. [70:28] Another [70:37] [cheering] [70:43] foul. [70:46] >> It's the second on Turner. [70:59] and Cardinus. [71:02] >> We'll check in. Cardinus with a couple [71:04] of threes. [71:26] Mcgriff [71:28] >> spin move. [71:30] [cheering and applause] [71:31] >> No, Bloomquist there for the finish. And [71:34] Roseville back in front. [71:39] [cheering] [71:45] >> [cheering and applause] [71:53] >> There's Cardinus. He'll pull up the 15. [71:56] Switch. [72:00] So, McQuay and Cardinus giving White [72:02] Bear Lake [72:04] an offensive boost. Cardanis all of his [72:08] points coming in the second half. [72:11] Roseville wide open underneath as White [72:15] Bear Lake overloaded. Carter Bloomquist [72:18] [cheering and applause] backto- back [72:19] scores [72:21] for the 65 senior. [72:25] [cheering] [72:28] Now White Bear Lake looking to do the [72:29] same, but Roseville reacts in time. [72:33] >> Turner [72:37] missing the jumper. [72:42] Roseville gets control of it. 4038. [72:46] >> McGriff. [72:53] >> Lobs it to Brendan. [72:59] >> Dion. [73:06] >> Brendan from the elbow. [73:10] got tangled up with McQuade briefly. [73:13] Rebound going to the Bears. Five minutes [73:15] to go. [73:18] Not a lot of points to be had, but still [73:22] a suspenseful finish potentially. [73:25] Piper missing a couple of looks from [73:27] short range. Turner can't get it to go. [73:30] Lake had four chances. Nothing doing. [73:33] Mcgriff open on the other end. [73:36] Sent away by McQuay. [73:39] >> [cheering and applause] [73:52] [screaming] [74:03] >> 438 remaining [74:07] and Roseville will take a timeout. They [74:09] had three remaining [74:11] as Abdullahi was having a little bit of [74:13] trouble on the inbound. So, a dramatic [74:17] finish [74:23] on tap potentially. [74:28] Here's a look at the road ahead for [74:30] Roseville. [74:34] [music] [74:35] They'll return to action on Tuesday with [74:39] a couple of row games in conference [74:40] play. Woodbury [music] and Mounds View [74:43] February they'll play Minneapolis [74:45] Southwest [74:47] and then Spring Lake Park that is one of [74:49] their section rivals on Valentine's Day. [74:52] And you see Durham Hall [74:55] coming up on their schedule. They will [74:58] take on Eastridge again February 20th if [75:01] you're curious. [75:04] So, a lot of conference competition [75:06] [music] [75:08] >> for these two, and that's not unusual. [75:11] Most teams will get through the [75:16] non-conference portion of the season [75:17] early. [75:41] >> [applause] [75:46] >> So, a couple of timeouts remaining for [75:48] Roseville. Brendan picking up the [75:50] inbound to the back court, which you can [75:52] do. [75:54] Whiskus [76:01] go. [76:02] >> Now Brendan has it. Abdahi [76:08] Whiskus inside to Bloomquist. [76:11] Fouled on the attempt. [76:15] Last foul to give for White Bear Lake. [76:17] Keep that in mind with 413 to go. [76:22] >> Carter Bloomquist. [76:27] working some wonders of his own. [76:32] >> Averaging about seven and a half per [76:34] game based on the numbers we have. [76:38] [cheering] [76:40] [laughter] [76:53] Bloomquis [76:55] blanking at the line, but Abdelahi [76:57] fouled [76:59] as White Bear Lake tried to pry the [77:02] rebound away. [77:04] This is one and one. [77:06] >> But with 411 to go, [77:09] >> key chances here for Roseville [77:12] >> to build up their advantage. [77:27] >> [applause] [77:31] >> Abdullahi had just a couple of points, [77:33] one field goal in the first half. Again, [77:35] we're back on Friday [77:38] over at Manameidi. [applause] They'll [77:40] take on Two Rivers in girls basketball. [77:42] and Abdulahi gives Roseville a couple of [77:45] big points. [77:47] Game far from over, of course, but [77:51] a low scoring affair. Every point goes a [77:54] long way. [77:56] Now a foul away from the ball on [77:57] Roseville. They had three to give. [78:01] It's on Abdahi. [78:16] Cardinus [78:17] catch and shoot three comes up short. [78:20] Scampering down Cordis Whiskus. [78:36] Whiskus again [78:39] just seven points but [78:43] his name his number hasn't [78:46] needed to be called all that often. [78:48] William McQuay catching up to the [78:50] passing lane going coast to coast and [78:53] the ball rims out. [79:00] [applause] [79:01] >> Jonathan Woods then fouls the ball [79:03] handler. Another missed chance for the [79:07] Bears. They had the lead for a moment in [79:09] the second half and now [79:15] >> a series of these close calls that leave [79:19] them struggling to finish [79:22] could render their chances mood here [79:26] depending on how Roseville does at the [79:28] line and depending on what else happens [79:30] with 312 to go. [applause] [79:33] Brendan 13 points in the first half, [79:36] much more quaint second half, but again, [79:39] Bloomquist has stepped things up, [79:43] even if the points haven't come as often [79:47] compared to the first half. [79:51] [applause and cheering] [79:57] [cheering and applause] [80:05] Piper [80:07] >> rises up for the tough shot. [80:11] >> White Bear Lake getting the timeout in. [80:15] They have three now too with 255 to go. [80:20] Of course, they don't carry over to the [80:22] next game. [80:23] And with this back and forth nature, [80:26] >> not a bad time to reset. Let's take [80:28] another look [80:30] >> at the play by Piper. [80:33] And that's just determination for you. [80:37] Fearlessness, [80:41] [music] [80:42] refusing to flinch [80:45] with a guy on you, Piper. Just a couple [80:47] of field goals. So, some interesting [80:51] deviations from the norm in particular [80:54] for Piper who again averages 20 a game, [80:57] but [80:59] it's been a while since he has reached [81:01] the 20 point mark [81:03] in a game. A lot of his big numbers came [81:07] early. [81:11] This would be his lowest scoring output [81:13] of the season. He has reached double [81:15] digits in every game. [81:23] He managed just to love it against Queen [81:25] Durham Hall, but of course CDH won 7938. [81:28] So [81:31] you can't pin too much fault on him or [81:34] the others when CDH is simply at a [81:37] higher level right now. 4440. [81:43] Ritty win will come to one of these two. [81:47] Whiskus [81:48] >> comes up long, didn't touch rim, so [81:50] Roosevelt just has five to shoot. [81:52] Whiskus sees the clock short on the [81:55] three [81:56] and this is where White Bear Lake [82:00] has to finish. [82:04] Time [82:06] running out [82:08] and a two possession margin. [82:11] So you want to get a bucket here if you [82:13] can. Piper again. [82:16] Bloomquist still on top of him. And [82:20] you see just how difficult it is to [82:22] consistently make shots [82:25] while contested. [82:27] Dead ball rebound [82:29] to Roseville. It was knocked away, I [82:32] should say. [82:37] How will Roseville approach this? [82:40] They are in the bonus [82:42] >> and they'll have a chance to make use of [82:44] it. [83:13] Unfortunately, Whisk has missed the [83:15] front end of a one and one. So, the door [83:17] remains open for White Bear Lake. [83:21] >> And they make it count. [83:23] >> They led briefly 3634 in the second [83:27] half. That's it. [83:30] Piper thought about it. McQuay launches. [83:34] That's long. [83:38] Roseville [83:40] [cheering] [83:41] hang a hangs on to it. [83:44] White Bear Lake trying to get more [83:46] aggressive on defense. Colin Piper [83:49] saying [83:51] I got the ball. [83:57] >> The referee says otherwise. That is the [84:00] fourth on Piper with 113 remaining. And [84:04] it's double bonus the rest of the way. [84:19] You see the emotions bubbling [84:23] on Piper. [84:25] Tough to tell from the vantage point if [84:28] there was contact. They didn't see much [84:29] of it. It certainly wasn't [84:32] obvious, blatant, [cheering] or apparent [84:36] at first glance. [84:40] And Whiskus [84:44] at the line, hit the front end, [84:48] looking to make the back end, [84:51] and bump the margin to six, which he [84:53] does. [84:58] Nine for Whiskus. [85:01] >> Now it's up to White Bear Lake. Cardinus [85:03] fouled on the three. [cheering] [85:07] Brendan got a little too much arm. And [85:10] how many times have you heard the [85:12] frustration of fouling a jump shooter, [85:15] so Cardinus will shoot three with the [85:18] clock stopped at 105. [85:26] And there was a little [85:29] nick of the arm based on that angle. [85:33] [cheering] [85:34] [applause] [85:40] >> Cardinis eight points in the second [85:42] half. Missed the front end. That [85:45] isn't ideal. He averages 8.8 a game. [85:48] [cheering] [85:50] [applause] [86:06] missed all three of those. [86:09] [cheering] [86:13] That may have been the last best chance [86:15] for White Bear Lake [86:18] >> to resurrect [86:21] A path to victory. [86:28] >> Carter Brendan goes to the line. Double [86:30] bonus here for Roseville. But if he [86:32] makes one more, that should take care of [86:33] it. [86:35] With 103 to go, [86:38] barring something [86:41] highly unusual. [applause] [86:44] And that's what White Bear Lake will [86:46] look back on if they can't get this win. [86:49] All the missed chances, some of the [86:51] [cheering] [86:52] short range looks [86:55] nothing doing. [86:57] Cardinis missing three free throws after [87:00] getting fouled on a three-point try. [87:07] And Roseville certainly not a glorious [87:10] half offensively, but they're doing just [87:12] enough. Turner missing the three. Turn [87:15] around. White Bear Lake just having a [87:18] tough time finding the bucket tonight [87:22] and it looks like the losing streak will [87:24] continue. [87:25] They drop their last four and it's going [87:28] to go to five as Roseville gets the [87:30] rebound and can work the clock. [87:34] Wiper Lake trying to pressure them into [87:37] the 10-second call. Roseville will take [87:39] a timeout. 33.5, but with an eight-point [87:42] margin, [87:45] I just don't think there's enough time. [87:47] Again, the clock doesn't stop for a made [87:50] basket at this level. [87:55] As we noted, we're back here Friday. Not [87:58] here specifically, but you will see us [88:01] again on Friday. Two Rivers and Mameidi [88:05] girls basketball [88:07] and then a couple of hockey games. [88:09] Eastridge and White Bear Lake girls [88:11] hockey next Tuesday. I'll be with you [88:14] a week from tomorrow. That's Thursday, [88:17] January 22nd. Proctor Hermantown [88:21] making a trip to the Metro to face [88:22] Gentry a former state champion a few [88:26] years ago. Well, that is what's on tap [88:29] on SEC Sports, secctv.org. Of course, [88:33] you can get more information there. [88:44] Gentry co-op has a few Tartan and North [88:47] St. Paul athletes. [88:50] Of [music] course, boys hockey and girls [88:52] hockey especially, there are more co-ops [88:54] involved. And speaking of co-ops, Carter [88:56] Brendan with 19 points, but he got [88:58] enough from Bloomquist and Whiscus. [89:01] Again, it was not a pretty second half. [89:04] And White Bear Lake took the lead for a [89:08] time 3634, but that was it. [applause] [89:13] And just like the first half around that [89:16] midway point [89:18] >> is when the offensive spigot dried up. [89:28] Roseville with a 144 edge since White [89:32] Bear Lake took that lead in the second [89:33] half. And Whiscus will shoot a couple [89:35] more [89:38] >> for good measure, but it's academic with [89:41] 30 seconds to go. [89:50] Make your fouls as Scott Vanpelt would [89:53] say. Roseville doing enough of that in [89:55] the second half. [89:57] 14 of 18. That'll be more than enough. [90:02] And there's a microcosm of the final leg [90:06] of this game for White Bear Lake. Just [90:08] brick after brick. [90:12] >> There's an old saying, when you shoot [90:13] well, you look good. When you don't [90:15] shoot well, you can run into trouble. [90:16] And that phrase is true no matter where [90:21] your ranking is, no matter what your [90:22] record is. [90:29] >> Bloom Quest to shoot two more, but like [90:31] we said, it's academic. [90:34] [applause] [90:40] Roseville just made more plays in this [90:42] second half and a lot of their points [90:45] coming at the line. Bloomquist will [90:47] split, but that's all right. Roseville [90:48] will finish 15 of 20. Good for 75%. A [90:52] three for White Bear Lake goes down, but [90:54] not enough time for William McQuay and [90:57] company to come back. 7.2 left, [91:00] eight-point margin. [91:06] >> You can do the math from there. [91:15] a couple of factors. White Bear Lake, [91:18] while I can't keep track of field goals [91:20] in my head, [91:27] they've ran into rough terrain [91:31] from the midway point of the second [91:33] half. Nothing was going down. Short [91:35] range, long range, everywhere in [91:37] between. Another factor overall, Colin [91:41] Piper held just two field goals, six [91:43] points. The first time this season he'll [91:46] be held under 10 in a game. [91:51] And they talk about the influence of the [91:55] big scores. If they do well, [91:58] that favors White Bear Lake. But if you [92:01] can contain him like Roseville did [92:02] tonight, [92:04] >> that ups their chances as it did. So [92:06] Roseville will run out the clock [92:08] [cheering] [92:10] and they decide to let that last one go. [92:14] 5143 the final. Roseville [92:19] >> goes to seven and five.
