doing the dirt work for the new city hall fire hall that we're having built it was about a 35-year process so it's been a long time coming brought this to the go line in the 2016-17 city council when they put some money into studying the current buildings and what they kind of learned from all of that is we could retrofit one building but we still need to build a fire station and the cost of the retrofit and the tack on costs of just putting the city hall law enforcement center all together was sort of a negligible difference and we're trying to really set the table so that this building serves this community for decades we're paying some of it through cash we've been saving to pay up front and we are bonding the rest of it and the bonds will be paid back through property taxes they'll be also paid back through the sign revenue and the new construction is bringing in new property tax dollars and so what we're finding is we don't have to raise taxes on existing homes because this new revenue and these other revenue streams are going to be able to pay back that debt and debt service while maintaining our tax levies it'll be just welcoming to have a facility that really works with you than works against you because right now our council chambers is the conference room it's the lunch room it's our map room it's not really conducive to really running an efficient setting for meeting with people all our turnout gear sits right next to the truck right in direct flow of the diesel exhaust which has heavy metals which are carcinogens so moving the gear into a separate room that's managed by the hvac system it should enhance response times as well as we're not splitting crews between two different buildings as we do today we'll be able to get a full crew in an engine right out of the chute out of that building the administration offices will be right immediately on your left the law enforcement is in the back upstairs we'll have the council chambers and then to the right of that we've got the offices for the fire department we have scba room dedicated communications room a gear room a dedicated tool room they'll also be a large training room with upgraded av equipment and as well as a fitness room offices for our ftos and for our detectives that work cases down here and we'll have some squad bays the adoptees can jump right on in them during the winter time or any inclement weather and they can take off and serve the citizens it'll have the five drive-through bays allowing for us to pull in and keep our apparatus much more able to respond without moving trucks back and forth depending on the type of call we also have hose tower in there that will double as a training tower i mean who wouldn't want to join a fire department with a best-in-class facility like that we're pretty excited about you know the ability to recruit keeping our firefighters safe is my number one concern and this goes a long way to doing that thank you to the citizens and thank you to the city staff the council the mayor and to be a part of the community and be a part of this group brand new building that's being built and to be included it'll go a long ways for the next 30 40 years we'll be moving in in about a year from now just really exciting for the community and actually it's a building i think they can be very proud of it's going to be beautiful [Music]
