The South Washington County School Board received comprehensive updates on their $200 million bond construction project during their Aug. 21 business meeting, with work progressing at seven school sites ahead of the new academic year.

Construction Project Manager Alex Sloum and Assistant Superintendent Tyrone Brookens presented detailed progress reports for each location, including Eastridge High School, Woodbury High School, Park High School, and four middle schools. The projects include cafeteria expansions, new secure entryways, additional classroom space for career and technology education, and infrastructure improvements.

Brookens emphasized that all projects remain on budget despite necessary adjustments for required storm shelters, public safety radio enhancements, and additional roadwork at Park High School. He noted strong contractor staffing levels and no impact from potential tariffs or labor shortages that had been anticipated.

The board also approved several policy changes in the 200 series, consolidating three existing policies into a single procedure document. Superintendent Julie Nielsen reported on new staff orientation activities, noting the district welcomed over 80 new teachers this year.

Construction is scheduled for completion by Aug. 30, with the district planning a welcome back event for all staff at Park High School on Aug. 26. Parents were advised to expect temporary traffic pattern changes and follow staff directions during student drop-off and pickup periods.
