Transportation safety video.

[0:11] Whether you take the bus

to school, walk to school,

[0:14] ride your bike, or a riding

the bus for a field trip

[0:17] or athletics, your safety is important.

[0:21] Let's take a few minutes to go

over how you can do your part

[0:24] to keep yourself and others safe.

[0:27] Safety starts before

you even get on the bus.

[0:31] Be at your bus stop five minutes

[0:33] before your scheduled pickup time.

[0:35] Stand back from the curb, avoid horseplay,

[0:38] and always stay out of the danger zone.

[0:41] That's the 10 foot space around the bus

[0:43] where the driver may not see you.

[0:46] Also, it is important to

respect the property of others

[0:50] as the bus approaches line up.

[0:53] Wait for the bus to

come to a complete stop.

[0:56] Before approaching the

bus, wait your turn.

[1:00] Do not push or shove. Use the handrails.

[1:03] Scan your bus ID card.

[1:06] All students are required

to use their bus ID card

[1:09] to scan on and off the bus daily.

[1:13] Only students assigned

to the bus may ride.

[1:16] No extra guess go directly to your seat.

[1:20] Younger students should sit in the front.

[1:23] Older students should sit in

the rear, sit seat to seat back

[1:28] to back, and keep the aisle clear.

[1:31] Keep bags on your lap or

beside you if space allows.

[1:35] If your bus is equipped with

seat belts, buckle up as soon

[1:38] as you sit down and keep your seatbelt on

[1:41] for the entire ride.

[1:43] State law requires you to wear one.

[1:46] The bus driver needs to

focus on safe driving.

[1:49] Avoid distracting the bus driver

[1:51] and always follow the bus rules.

[1:54] Bus rules also apply to field

trips and activity trips.

[1:59] The bus rules are as follows.

[2:02] Be on time and stay

clear of the danger zone.

[2:06] Stay seated and facing

forward at all times.

[2:09] Wear your seat belt if available.

[2:12] Keep your body inside

the bus at all times.

[2:16] Students are not allowed

to take photos or videos.

[2:20] Be nice to each other.

Bullying is not acceptable.

[2:25] Eat didn't drink before

getting on the bus.

[2:29] Please help keep the bus

clean, throw away garbage.

[2:33] Do not throw objects

inside or out of the bus.

[2:37] Absolutely no weapons are allowed.

[2:41] Follow the bus driver's instructions,

[2:43] which may include assigning seats.

[2:47] Remember, safety starts with you.

[2:50] If you see or hear something of concern.

[2:52] Report to the bus driver,

parent or school staff.

[2:57] Cameras are always recording,

[2:59] and serious behavior may result in

[3:01] losing your bus privilege.

[3:03] Riding the school bus is

a privilege, not a right

[3:10] know where the emergency exits are.

[3:13] There are three types of emergency

exits located in the bus,

[3:17] the rear exit door, the

marked side exit windows,

[3:21] and the roof hatches.

[3:23] These are only for real emergencies.

[3:26] Your driver will show you how

[3:27] to use the safety equipment

such as the two-way radio,

[3:31] fire extinguisher, first aid

kit, and seatbelt cutter.

[3:36] When getting off the bus,

the front rows unload first.

[3:40] Wait your turn. Do not push or shove.

[3:44] Scan your bus ID card.

[3:47] All students are required

to use their bus ID card

[3:49] to scan on and off the bus daily.

[3:53] Use the handrails, step away from the bus

[3:56] and never return to the danger zone.

[4:02] If you need to cross,

cross in front of the bus

[4:05] by walking 10 feet ahead.

[4:07] Make eye contact with the driver

[4:10] and wait for the signal from the driver

[4:11] that it is safe to cross.

[4:13] Always check for traffic.

[4:18] Many students walk or bike,

ride their bike to school.

[4:22] When walking, always

walk on a sidewalk path

[4:25] or the side of the street.

[4:28] Always check for traffic

and use crosswalks.

[4:31] Obey any traffic signs and be alert.

[4:34] Always look left, right,

left before crossing a road.

[4:40] When riding your bike,

always wear your helmet.

[4:44] Your helmet should be snug on your head

[4:46] and buckled with the chin strap.

[4:48] You should always make

sure your bike is in

[4:50] good working order.

[4:51] Ride in the same direction as

cars and follow all road signs

[4:56] and traffic signals.

[4:57] You must be 15 years

old to ride an e-bike.

[5:01] Walkers and bike riders should

avoid distractions like being

[5:04] on your phone or listening to music

[5:07] and be especially careful

in school Parking lots

[5:10] and drop off zones.
