The Woodbury City Council recognized Chris Felling as the 2025 EXCEL Senior Friend Award recipient during Monday's meeting for his nearly eight years of volunteer service with Meals on Wheels.

Felling delivered meals every Monday to homebound seniors in the 622 school district area, maintaining consistent service with only occasional breaks for vacations. His route covered the eastern side of the district, serving elderly residents in both apartments and homes who cannot leave their residences.

"I think the most rewarding and favorite part of Meals on Wheels is interacting with the recipients," Felling said during his remarks. He described emotional farewells when he concluded his volunteer service, with some recipients offering hugs and tears. One woman even asked him to purchase her Christmas gifts, though he had to decline due to his delivery schedule.

Tim Douly nominated Felling for the award. Felling expressed surprise at receiving the recognition, noting the many dedicated volunteers in the community. He emphasized that his motivation was community service rather than recognition, calling it "a small commitment out of your day-to-day life."

Felling encouraged others to consider volunteering, particularly in areas matching their interests and passions. He described the Meals on Wheels program as providing both hot and frozen meals, plus non-perishable items during winter months to help recipients prepare for severe weather when volunteers cannot reach them.
