Oakdale celebrates volunteer, warns of holiday package thefts
The Oakdale City Council held its Monday morning meeting on December 16, highlighting community achievements while warning residents about a seasonal crime problem. The council recognized a dedicated volunteer, promoted a free family event, and issued safety tips as package thefts rise during the holidays.
Angie Propp was named Oakdale's 2024 Volunteer of the Year during the meeting, earning recognition for her long-standing commitment to local causes. Propp has been a consistent supporter of the Oakdale Area Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations, making her a standout contributor to the region.
The council also announced the annual Winter Wonderland event, scheduled for Saturday, December 21st, at the Discovery Center. The free event—made possible through community partnerships—will offer families a range of activities including hay rides, a petting zoo, a bonfire, and meals. Santa will also be available for visits, making it a popular destination for holiday celebrations in Oakdale.
In a public safety announcement, the Oakdale Police Department reminded residents to take precautions against package theft, which increases during the holiday shopping season. The department advised residents to track their packages, install video doorbells, and require signatures for deliveries. These steps can help prevent theft and ensure holiday gifts arrive safely.
