Oakdale highlights summer events, seeks advisory board volunteers

The Oakdale City Council announced upcoming community events and opened applications for two advisory commissions during its Monday meeting. The city is actively recruiting residents to fill vacancies on boards that shape local economic and environmental policy.

The council highlighted several ways residents can engage with their community in the coming weeks. The Oakdale Farmers Market will operate Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot, featuring local vendors and goods. That same evening, families are invited to a free concert at Walton Park Bandshell on July 31st at 7 p.m., where the children's band The Bazillions will perform.

In addition to entertainment, the council announced that Washington County is launching a "Stop Food Waste Challenge" in August. The initiative encourages residents to reduce food waste through various practices. The county is also promoting a "Food Scraps Pickup Program" as a specific tool to help residents participate in waste reduction efforts.

The council is also seeking community members to serve on two advisory bodies: the Economic Development Commission and the Environmental Management Commission. Both commissions meet eight times per year and play a role in shaping the city's development policies. Interested residents can apply for these volunteer positions to contribute directly to local decision-making.
