Oakdale asks voters to extend sales tax for infrastructure
The Oakdale City Council is asking residents to vote on extending a half-percent local sales tax for five more years to fund two major construction projects: a new Public Works facility already under construction and an expansion of the Police Department facility.
The city has placed two ballot questions before voters in the general election asking them to approve extending the current half-percent sales tax through 2053. The extension is needed to cover funding gaps created by inflation for the Police facility expansion and the new Public Works building, which is already under construction.
The new Public Works facility is a 75,000 square foot building designed to give the city the space it needs to continue delivering essential services to residents. Construction has already begun on the project, with updates available to the public through a city-provided link.
In other business, the council reminded residents about yard waste disposal options as fall cleanup season continues.
