Oakdale announces summer programs, transit education initiative

The Oakdale City Council highlighted several upcoming community programs and infrastructure projects during its Monday meeting, including a free summer activity program for children and a transit education workshop for older residents.

The Oakdale Recreation Department is launching its 'In the Streets' (ITS) Truck program this summer, offering free activities for preschool and elementary-aged children. The program operates Monday through Thursday with two stops at different parks each day. No registration is required — families can simply show up at their nearest park during scheduled times.

In a separate initiative, Oakdale Wellness 50 Plus is hosting a 'Transition to New Transit' program on June 12 at the Discovery Center. The workshop will help residents, particularly seniors, learn how to use the city's new transit options, including the Gold Line. Interested participants can register through oakdalefun.com.

The council also received an update on Water Tower 3 maintenance work. The structure, located on the west side of Highway 694, is undergoing sandblasting and will receive five layers of protective paint. The work is designed to protect the tower from Minnesota's harsh weather and extend its lifespan by at least 20 years.

Looking ahead, the city reminded residents that Oakdale Summerfest is scheduled for June 23 through 28. The council encouraged community members to visit oakdalesummerfest.com for a complete schedule of events.
