Oakdale highlights fall events, seeks input on park names
The Oakdale City Council held its Monday morning meeting on October 6 to announce several upcoming community events and initiatives, including the final farmers market of the season, a volunteer cleanup event, and a public naming vote for two new parks in the Willowbrooke neighborhood.
The council used the meeting to promote National Fire Prevention Week, which focuses this year on lithium-ion battery safety in homes. The city is encouraging residents to learn proper battery usage and recycling practices, with additional resources available through the city's website.
On the calendar front, Oakdale residents have two immediate opportunities to get involved. The final Oakdale Farmers Market of the season takes place Wednesday, October 8, from 2 to 6 PM at the City Hall parking lot. The council is encouraging residents to visit and stock up on fall produce and goods before the season ends.
The following Saturday, October 11, the city is hosting its annual Scott Carver Buckthorn Removal Event at Walton Park from 9 AM to Noon. The volunteer effort aims to remove invasive buckthorn plants from suburban forests. Lunch will be provided for volunteers, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Those interested in volunteering must sign up by Thursday at noon.
Looking ahead, the city is asking residents to help name two new parks being built in the Willowbrooke neighborhood. The council has narrowed down the options to finalists and is opening voting to the public. Residents can cast their votes for their preferred park names by Friday through a link provided by the city. This marks an effort to give community members a direct say in shaping their neighborhood's public spaces.
