Oakdale celebrates 30 years as Tree City USA
The Oakdale City Council highlighted the city's environmental achievements and upcoming community events at Monday's meeting, including recognition of three decades of tree conservation efforts and a slate of spring activities designed to engage residents in sustainability.
Oakdale has earned Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation for the 30th consecutive year, a milestone that recognizes the city's commitment to maintaining and expanding its urban forest. The designation is based on a four-step framework that guides communities in growing and protecting their tree cover.
The city's environmental momentum continues this week with several community events. Park Clean Up Week began today and runs through Sunday, offering residents the chance to volunteer and reserve parks for cleaning. More details and sign-up information are available on the city's website.
This Saturday, April 26, Oakdale will host two major events. The Pete Graske Arbor Day Tree Giveaway will distribute free trees to residents, with all 200 available trees reserved within just 4.5 hours of registration opening on April 1—a new record for demand. The same day, Castle Elementary School will host Oakdale's first-ever Eco Fair from 9 AM to 1 PM. The free, family-friendly event will feature vendors and exhibitors offering education on environmental topics and initiatives.
Looking ahead, residents interested in summer activities should note that registration for Oakdale Recreation's youth programs opens Thursday, April 24, at 8 AM. Registration is available online at oakdalefun.com.
