Board members expressed confidence in Martins, with Nancy Livingston saying she believed Peltzman "would fully support us choosing Julia to replace him" and praising Martins as "a really involved dedicated capable person." The board also unanimously approved three other routine matters: acknowledging $26,801 in monetary and in-kind contributions to the district, and scheduling a special meeting and work study session for January 14, 2025.

The January 14 special meeting will focus on electing board officers and addressing organizational matters. The work study session immediately following will include presentations on Indian education, a superintendent check-in, and a board check-in.

During the meeting, the board also heard from multiple paraeducators who expressed concerns about a recent policy change affecting sick time. The district shifted from front-loading sick time to accruing it per pay period, a change that speakers said has created hardship for staff caring for sick children or managing their own health needs. Paraeducators also noted that the district pays sick time to staffing agency employees, raising questions about equity in how different workers are treated.

The board received updates on district achievement and equity initiatives. The Director of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment presented progress toward state-mandated goals covering student attendance, academic performance in reading and math, graduation rates, and college and career readiness. The Director of Equity and Communications highlighted the Achievement and Integration program, which works to reduce racial and economic disparities in student achievement through initiatives like AVID, Freedom Schools, and efforts to recruit and retain teachers of color. The district is also collaborating with Mahtomedi School District on these equity efforts.
