Oakdale Council Approves 7% Property Tax Increase
The Oakdale City Council adopted a proposed 2026 property tax levy Monday that represents a 7% increase over the current year, bringing the total levy to $20.46 million.
The preliminary levy, which must be certified to Washington County by Sept. 30, will result in an estimated $46.88 annual increase for the median residential property valued at $346,200, according to Finance Director Christina. The monthly increase amounts to $3.91 for the city's portion of property taxes.
Mayor Kevin Zabel acknowledged the difficulty of raising taxes but emphasized the necessity. "We never take tax increases lightly," Zabel said. "But as we all know, the cost of all goods and services continues to climb." He described the budget as focusing on essential services while maintaining quality of life standards residents expect.
The council also approved a $1.4 million roof repair contract with Eber Companies to address damage from a hail storm several years ago. The project covers multiple city buildings and was the low bid received in June.
In other business, the council approved a new liquor license for Mana Brewing LLC at 7600 Second Street North, welcoming the brewery that officials said has generated significant community interest. The Economic Development Authority separately extended an exclusive rights agreement with Tanner Lake LLC for redevelopment of EDA-owned property through Oct. 23, allowing the developer additional time to secure financing.
