Oakdale Council Approves 20-Year Park Plan, Development Projects
The Oakdale City Council approved a comprehensive 20-year park system plan and authorized two major residential developments during their regular meeting Monday.
The council unanimously adopted the park system plan, which will guide improvements to the city's park system through 2045. Community Development Specialist Hannah Dunn said the plan resulted from a year and a half of work involving city staff, consultants, and extensive community engagement including surveys and public input sessions at events like Summerfest and the farmers market.
Council members also approved a comprehensive plan amendment and planned unit development for Forefront Residential, allowing up to 220 residential units including apartments and townhomes. The project required changing the land use designation from business campus to high-density residential. City staff confirmed adequate sewer capacity exists to support the additional units after conducting an engineering analysis.
In a separate 4-1 vote, the council approved the Oakdale Marketplace 7th Edition development by AV Development. The project includes a 160-unit apartment building and up to 12,000 square feet of commercial space in a horizontal mixed-use configuration. Council Member Morham cast the dissenting vote, saying he wanted to see more commercial development in the area.
The council also authorized agreements for traffic signal maintenance related to the Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit project and approved a school resource officer agreement with Independent School District 622 for Tartan High School through August 2027.

Notable Quotes (3)
I took it as a slap to the face how they took out all the businesses, put this little itty bitty business in the corner and saying, 'Oh, there's your little business.'
September 7th is a Sunday night. Allowing amplified sound in an area next to a residential district until 11 p.m. feels unreasonable to me.
I will be voting no on this resolution in hopes of something with more commercial in the future.
