The Oakdale Parks and Recreation Commission received an update on the city's comprehensive park system plan, which is nearing completion after a year and a half of development work.

Community Development Specialist Hannah Dunn told commissioners Monday that the 20-year plan will serve as a guiding roadmap for park improvements across the city's growing system. The plan includes concept designs for all parks, detailed cost estimates, and a phasing matrix that prioritizes improvements over short-term (0-5 years), mid-term (5-10 years), and long-term (10-20 years) periods.

SRF Consulting Group led the planning process, which included comprehensive park assessments, community surveys, stakeholder meetings, and public engagement at events like the farmers market and Summerfest. The consultant team also conducted design charrettes with various city departments and attended multiple city council workshops to gather feedback.

Dunn said a draft plan will be distributed to the Parks and Recreation Commission, City Council, and other commissions for review and comment within the next couple of months. The final plan will require City Council adoption before implementation can begin through the city's capital improvement planning process.

Commissioners also received updates on summer programming, including the return of the farmers market on June 4, amphitheater series beginning June 12, and concert series starting June 18. Staff reported that more than 100 volunteers participated in the recent park cleanup event across 16 city parks.
