[1:56] everyone so what we had going on at North last weekend or two weekends ago

[2:03] we had Rock the north Show choire event I went uh we don't actually compete but we do perform and we host the

[2:10] competition so much fun they are all fantastic and at the very end our polar

[2:16] drift performs and they are just amazing um they're really interactive with the

[2:21] crowd and the students and it was so much fun it's like being at a real life concert but like it's your friends up

[2:27] there so it's even cooler and they're like pointing at you it's so fun um and then we have our Athena Award

[2:35] winner which is Gabby Martinez she has actually on my softball team and one of my really good friends so she has just

[2:43] been an amazing athlete she did um she did softball and

[2:48] basketball and volleyball Varsity for all of them so

[2:53] yes we yes she's an amazing athlete and we're so glad she got that award um uh

[3:00] we had our winter pet Fest and at our pet Fest latinx performed a dance mosa

[3:06] performed a dance and polar drift and Northern Light Show chir also performed so there was a lot of musical stuff

[3:13] going on it was super fun um very interactive and yeah just really fun to

[3:19] showcase our winter sports because a lot of times we don't get to do that usually it's just fall and spring so that was

[3:25] really nice we also had our black Excellence showcase which is the bsu's event where they

[3:33] showcase you know it could be dance musical performances and there's a fashion show so cool the the outfits are

[3:40] so beautiful and like intricate and I love them and then the food is cultural food everyone always loves it they just

[3:46] make the best stuff and what else oh we had

[3:51] gymnastics they hosted section four or 4 AA gymnastics meet so it was this

[3:59] Saturday and Sydney Johnson she's actually new to our team but she is going to state for

[4:05] floor and beam so that is super cool I don't think we've had someone go to state in a while so that's really

[4:11] awesome and I've seen her compete and she's very good she's very fun to watch okay

[4:18] upcoming well right now winter sports are underway but we have some senior nights coming up we have boys senior

[4:26] night is on the 20th and girls senior night it's on the 24th so both of those

[4:32] super fans has fun events and prizes and everything planned uh spring season is

[4:38] starting to start off like we have player meetings coming up um yeah and

[4:44] it'll all be starting so soon we're very excited uh last week was Valentine's

[4:50] week so we did flower sales for student council it was a fundraiser with us and

[4:56] latinx and 11th Avenue which is if you don't know they're kind of our like show

[5:01] choir kids and so a quartet they would go and they would sing you pay $5 and they would go and sing a love song to

[5:08] whoever you picked it was very fun I got to see a video yes I very fun very surprising for

[5:16] the people who got it so not sure how much they loved it but we loved it and last we have coffee

[5:26] house acts which is like a talent show coming up where super excited for that that's a student council NHS event so we

[5:33] are in the midst of planning that and then personally today I was actually

[5:38] just at the hockey game for Tartan well our North Tartan team they're in their first playoff game and they were playing

[5:45] Ms view so hoping they win so they can get to the next game and um I just

[5:52] recently accepted on my offer at Purdue

[5:58] so yeah any

[6:03] questions could you explain what the atheno word is yeah the Athena award is

[6:09] an award that goes to an athlete um who also demonstrates you know leadership quality and good grades um and just

[6:18] overall um excellence in the things they do especially Sports

[6:31] congrats again on Purdue and the is that um you said it's the engineering college

[6:36] that year um it's actually the business college but it's integrated business and Engineering so it's a business degree

[6:43] with a heavy engineering Focus that's awesome yeah can I gu a quick question do you

[6:49] know yet if you are going to room with somebody from here or are you gonna go on the system and meet somebody new for

[6:55] your roommate process well I'm actually in the midst of doing that right now

[7:00] like messaging with so many different people I bet um right now my two main

[7:05] prospects one is from New Jersey and the other I think is from Indiana so so far I found no Minnesota people but yeah

[7:13] that's pretty cool very different from some of our days in college where you just got matched up with somebody yes

[7:19] I'm very glad I get to pick and meet people yeah that's going to be exciting that's really cool yeah my first college

[7:24] roommate was from New Jersey so work out cool yeah

[7:32] relative to um roommates finding roommates in college I I have a short

[7:38] story when I went to Northwestern University in Evanston um I met um a

[7:44] student and our we're going to Northwestern meeting and I didn't tell her that I put her down for my roommate

[7:51] and so we were roommate and she thought it was just amazing that I that we were

[7:57] together so I wouldn't recommend that is right but we we got along great but yeah I don't know something I probably

[8:04] shouldn't have done that's

[8:13] funny thank you CCE um so next up we have um

[8:19] Finance well good evening Cher Yang directors of the board superintendent tuio Soro and cabinet uh each year

[8:25] budget revisions are presented to the school board to ensure Financial accuracy in alignment with updated Revenue projections expenditure

[8:32] adjustments and other evolving Financial conditions the budget for the current

[8:38] school year was initially adopted by you back in June of

[8:43] 2024 however as circumstances changed throughout the fiscal year revisions are

[8:48] necessary to reflect actual funding allocations expenditure patterns and District priorities for the current

[8:55] budget cycle uh we are proposing revisions to be done in three of our key

[9:01] funds in fund one our general fund the revised Revenue estimate has increased

[9:06] by just over $69,000 reflecting updated state and local funding adjustments and the

[9:12] expenditures have decreased by approximately $166,000 primarily due to a reduction in

[9:18] projected stien and salary costs fund four community service a projected Revenue increase of

[9:26] just over $369,000 primarily due to additional funding for adults adult basic education

[9:33] General Community Education Early Childhood family education School Readiness and non and non-public pupil

[9:40] Aid an increase in expenditures reflect an increase of $ 51,3 120 primarily

[9:47] driven by higher costs in general Community Education and early childhood family education

[9:53] programs and finally fund 20 which is our self Insurance both revenue and expenditures have been reduced to $22.6

[10:01] million a change from the original budgeted amounts this revision aligns spending with available

[10:08] funding we have worked closely with USI our insurance broker to annualize the

[10:13] fund2 budget this adjustment ensures that our estimates accurately reflect Insurance costs and Associated

[10:20] expenditures for the full fiscal year and with that I'll be happy to answer any

[10:27] questions I have a question question about um you said that there's increased uh revenue is that from State money or

[10:36] uh where does that come from correct to be from State money uh based due to our higher enrollment than we projected back

[10:43] in June when we adopted the budget awesome looks like things went in the right direction so

[10:54] yes thank you thank you

[11:00] thank you um next up we have uh superintendent tooro sure I just going to give a couple quick um updates

[11:06] verbally here no not yet no um so you'll do that on the approval

[11:14] section next yep action items so I just want to start off by uh just touching

[11:19] Bas for a moment about weather because once again ironically the same setup

[11:25] happened after our MLK 3-day weekend where the cold weather moved in right behind it and sure enough it happened

[11:31] all over again today so just so people kind of have a a understanding of how we Factor cold weather decisions snow it

[11:39] varies it's not a specific amount of snow that falls that matters but more about when it falls and the rate with

[11:45] which it falls and of course honestly it feels like sometimes our weather forecasts are getting trickier and

[11:50] trickier to pin down these days but with cold weather it's a little bit easier to make a decision the night before because

[11:56] they can get pretty confident in how cold it's going to get and as a reminder our general guidelines and this is

[12:02] consistent across metro area school districts as well but our typical threshold is if if the cold weather a

[12:09] sustained temperature air temperature of minus 20 below or more uh at that early

[12:14] morning start a school time period or and or an air temp uh windchill reading

[12:21] of minus 35 degrees and the reason that number exists is because for this part

[12:27] of the Upper Midwest um that's when a cold weather um alert becomes a warning

[12:33] advisory turns to a warning is when it's projected to be at or close to that minus 35 degree temperature now if you

[12:41] live further north that advisory is 40 degrees below because people are more inclined to be dressed for the weather

[12:47] like you know how States down south might close if it's below zero at all

[12:52] right and so in Minnesota in the metro area that's basically our threshold the

[12:57] reason that air temp matters is because when you get close to 25 below air temp the diesel fuel in our school buses has

[13:04] a harder time starting it can get gelled up um of course when we get to that day where we have all electric school buses

[13:10] that won't be a problem anymore but right now it still is um and of course we always worry about the kids who are

[13:17] out at bus stops if there's ever any delay so like a bus doesn't start and a

[13:22] route gets held up a little bit longer than expected and kids are out at bus stops especially if they aren't able to get back into their houses so so it's

[13:29] it's more concerned about people who are outside unattended with adults and so that's why we kind of look at that that

[13:35] threshold for sure um I've already gotten a few text messages about tomorrow no we're not expecting to reach

[13:42] that threshold tomorrow I've had a number of folks asking me that question and all the superintendents I should

[13:47] also mention we're always talking with each other as well because there can be variations even among between zip codes

[13:54] right even neighboring districts especially if it's a snow event cold is generally more predictable so I just wanted share that update as to today we

[14:00] had our first e-learning day um and I was early this morning I was on WCCO radio answering some questions about

[14:07] what's the difference between a a snow day and an e-learning day and it really comes down to how much time and

[14:13] available space you have in your calendar to have a non-educational day right now we have room for one of those

[14:19] in our calendar which is the one that we had last month so today wasn't just a no school kind of a day it was a e-learning

[14:26] day because we'd already used up our one available extra day in the calendar that we wouldn't have to make up and in

[14:31] Minnesota we're allowed to have up to five e-learning days per school year so

[14:37] uh we're constantly as I was telling um Bonita soccer on my morning chat on K on

[14:42] WCCO this morning you got to get out your math skills and do some calculations and sometimes we

[14:48] recalculate recalculate okay do we count it right let's make sure we're not missing a date so just that explains a little B the variability between school

[14:54] districts so I thought that might be helpful just for people to understand again um and then finally just want to

[14:59] let you know that we've been um we had a great board retreat as you know can I can Ia about weather yes go ahead yeah

[15:07] about uh the what about those uh uh five days or up to five days right so let's

[15:14] say um uh tomorrow we use up the one day right and then something major happens

[15:21] and we have to close the school for a whole week M that means that we're going to go through June right right and

[15:29] what's interesting about that it means we have to make up the time but here's the interesting part Minnesota requires

[15:34] school districts to have a minimum of 1065 school days per year instructional

[15:40] days we have 171 in our calendar so theoretically we should have room for

[15:45] six right 65 to 71 but the problem is it also requires a minimum of 1,20 hours

[15:53] and we have a 6 and 1 half hour school day you can't count lunch so we can basically take the number of instructional days times six

[16:00] instructional hours so where we in our district tend to run short it's not typically the days it's the minutes so

[16:07] in our situation let's say we had to close for a week and go over on these things we might look at adding 10

[16:14] minutes to every school day rather than adding a day on in June if we were a district that was short on days but had

[16:21] enough hours like you had a longer day but less of them they might have to look at adding a day and can't add minutes so

[16:28] it's all it but you're right there could be something that happens right that school gets shut down and and what have

[16:35] you and there's no workaround and then you just have to make up the time otherwise because if you dip below that

[16:40] threshold of 165 days in 1,20 hours then

[16:45] the state starts to um take back funding from your school district for those days that you in session great question and

[16:51] then in the teachers and and the administrator's contract that's also built in that in case yep every

[16:59] bargaining group there's slightly different terms of how many days are counted and whatnot but um so it's all

[17:06] spelled out in those um by bargaining group per each contract um but yeah it's

[17:12] all built in there as to what happens and then who has to report right like today was an e-learning day it it still

[17:18] was a work day for most of us I mean we were all in fact those at the dec I mean many people were here working in person

[17:25] you know what I mean but we also had some Zoom meetings going on too but yeah it does very by bargaining group but it's all spelled out and every year we

[17:31] go back in the fall through that school closure memo and revisit all of it to make sure we've got our calculations up

[17:37] to date but those are great questions uh did uh again just to

[17:44] clarify did teachers work today oh yeah okay yep because they had an e-learning day so they were online with students

[17:50] today okay and um my other question was um several districts did two hours late

[17:56] did you was that a consideration great question in our district that's

[18:02] virtually impossible to do and the reason is because we run four tiers of

[18:07] buses right so we've got our Middle School our drivers go drive the middle school students to school then they go

[18:12] pick up the high school students and drop them off and then they pick up the first round of Elementary and drop them off and then they pick up the second

[18:18] round of elementary schools and drop them off then they start the prek picking up you know the early start

[18:24] schools their noon pickup time they start doing those run them home then they go back and get the the rest of the prek and by the time they do that

[18:30] they're already starting their afternoon dismissal time because we run many tiers back to back to back there's not really

[18:37] a catch-up time in the middle of the day where you like if you run two hours late

[18:42] um you're going to have problems on the back end so you'll see in the news this comes up quite a

[18:48] bit a lot of larger districts don't do the two hours late because their systems

[18:53] with multiple tiers don't work and so many of our like you'll never here

[18:59] Minneapolis in St Paul virtually ever talking about a 2-hour delay because they run many tiers like we do um and

[19:05] it's districts where they don't have those multiple tiers where it's like okay we can just shift the tier a couple hours later that would be great on a day

[19:12] like today where it was warming up a couple hours into the day but um because of our multi- tiers of busing we run

[19:18] very efficient buses um it's really hard for us to do a delay like that and do

[19:23] private schools um did they close as well or do they talk to you or oh absolutely absolutely our um in fact it

[19:30] in the middle of all of our conversations we always make sure um often times Julie Drew who is our transportation supervisor like even

[19:37] yesterday after like Julie are you covering the nonpublic and making sure they know where we're up with our plans and so um for example for today Hill

[19:44] Murray closed school for today well before we did several hours before we made the decision to close for today

[19:50] even though we provide busing for them they can also decide if they're going to stay open or Clos it's just that when we

[19:56] do close and our buses aren't running and they don't run for their groups either and so generally they close when

[20:02] we do and we try to make sure to let them know right away when we're even beginning the conversations um but they do have the opportunity if they choose

[20:08] to go their own route with that and you know parents can drop their kids off if they want to do that they can do that

[20:14] too okay and is finally on a personal note I was glad that they were closed you know because my gig as I walk three

[20:20] little uh grandsons up Sharon Avenue in Maplewood to the bus stop it's about a

[20:25] long block Y and one of them weighs about 35 pounds so um and you know they've got

[20:32] their Gators on in the hoods and all that you know but it's still uh they're they're just so tiny I

[20:39] know and our our big concern is often like really thinking about those that don't have an adult with them right like

[20:45] let's say they leave the house and then they don't have a key to get back in or something happens like trying to make

[20:51] sure we stay really Vigilant in those situations yeah thank you yeah

[20:57] additional question about those parents that drive their kids for instance to before an after school care they could

[21:04] have done that today do they [Music] have yeah in days like this if we're

[21:10] closed as a whole school district we're not going to be opening before and after school necessarily because there's not a

[21:17] place to go after the morning care starts because there's not we're not staffed for that during the day um but

[21:24] so it it generally that's why we try to make the announcement as early as we can like we did yesterday afternoon to get

[21:30] way ahead of that to try to give people as much notice but but like in this instance today we kept our a our evening

[21:36] Athletics going forward because we knew that the warm the we the wind chill was going to be warming up um by the end of

[21:43] the day but we are also very mindful that we don't penalize any students because our buses aren't they're not at

[21:48] school if a child misses a game or a practice tonight because schools were shut down and they didn't have a

[21:53] transportation ride the coaches know they're not to penalize them for not showing up because obviously um you know

[22:00] we didn't provide them a p rout

[22:07] so anything else I was just going to only thing I was going to add is that um we had a really great um board retreat

[22:15] where we really dug into um you know Financial stuff and we're kind of working our way through a

[22:20] lot of different of these areas and our teacher bargaining group is the one that um I know our team's been in many many

[22:26] meetings with right now kind of going through all of the you know class size lists and and all of

[22:31] the course registration guides and how many kids are signed up for things like we did in our conversation about how many teachers we need for each of the

[22:36] sections that we're teaching so we're just continuing to work through a lot of those issues and um as Tim could tell

[22:43] you we we talk um pretty much 247 right now as we're working through a lot of those conversations but we'll continue

[22:48] that work at our next um work session and continue on um with more more details as we work our way towards this

[22:55] keeping a really close eye on the legislature too because viously we want to continue to put in a good word

[23:00] especially about that compensatory funding issue that we've talked

[23:11] about thank you um we're going to move on to um the action items on our agenda

[23:17] uh first up is our American Indian uh parent advisory committee um from

[23:22] teaching and learning good evening uh Cher Yang

[23:28] members of the board and fellow cabinet members and superintendent uh tuio zorio

[23:33] I have the honor tonight to introduce Rebecca Buck our American Indian education coordinator and Perry Stone a

[23:39] 622 parent and a member of our American Indian parent advisory Council which we often say Apec uh every year just a

[23:47] little background uh our parent Council meet and they meet with our staff to reflect on District supports and the

[23:54] progress regarding our American Indian students so Rebecca and Perry are here to present the annual compliance for

[23:59] Vote or concurrence along with some recommendations from apek I'll hand it

[24:07] over I name oh sorry um my name is Becky and um I'm the

[24:14] coordinator of our Indian education program um and our program is guided

[24:19] through our parent committee um they have the students that we service and so

[24:25] it's really important that we get their voice in our program and so a lot of the steps that we do and a lot of the things

[24:31] that we're doing within Indian education today come from our parent committee um with that being said um we have a member

[24:37] right here that I'm going to let him introduce himself and and um where he comes from and go

[24:44] ahead Bou my name is Perry Stone I'm from the bad River Band Of boj Way in

[24:50] Wisconsin um I lived here for quite a few years I brought my I got my daughter here she's an 11th grader at Tartan High

[24:56] School so I've been part of this committee for the past few years and tonight I just wanted to present you

[25:03] with the letter of concurrence the American Indian parent advisory committee has voted to file a

[25:08] letter of concurrence for ISD 622 this decision comes from reviewing the new

[25:15] existing initiatives put into place this year that have addressed many of our

[25:20] concerns regarding the academics attendance data for our children and are

[25:26] confident that we will see a rise in the overall achievement of our American Indian

[25:31] students these initiatives include the transitional support for eighth grade

[25:37] students to high school Alternative High School the

[25:42] flight program that encourages our students to participate in theater choir and gives them exposure to the Arts

[25:49] urban debate leadership building and non-traditional academic support the win

[25:55] program what I need math master program we acknowledge that K through five the

[26:01] area of middle school art and high school science has been some collaboration and consultation with our

[26:08] AI Education team to add new American Indian components aligned with the Minnesota state statute standards as

[26:16] they apply to Minnesota tribes there is still much work to be done aligning standards and adding AI

[26:22] curriculum in the social studies Ela science art and music We Are asking that

[26:28] we continue with last year's requests we the parent committee would like input and consultation of our

[26:36] Indian education program Indian education curriculum Specialists being included in the district's alignment of

[26:43] newly revised standards in all curriculum areas that have specifically standards for Minnesota tribes isab oju

[26:51] and Dakota in elementary middle school and high school the AI pH AC would appreciate any

[26:59] curriculum lessons that include American Indian teachings history be shared with

[27:04] the committee and on that I would like to say meu for hearing me

[27:15] today thank you for sharing that we really appreciate our parent committee and all of your contributions because

[27:21] it's a pretty active group and well and as you know we have a parent Committee Member here now on our board with us as

[27:26] well so having k here so M Perry thank you um we I think we have some questions

[27:39] back you can both come back up um thank you both for the presentation and thank

[27:45] you for coming to the meeting I it's always really nice to see parents come

[27:52] and thank you for your advisory on the committee as well can you tell me do we

[27:57] consult with the committee with new curriculum that last

[28:03] sentence say that again um so the last sentence of it it says we would appreciate any curriculums that

[28:11] include so what we're looking at is we're talking about

[28:17] the Minnesota state standards that are supposed to be implemented in all the different areas um and so because it's O

[28:25] Dakota um history culture the parent committee would like

[28:32] to see what is going to be taught because of their students if if I could add if I could

[28:38] add something to what you're saying Becky I think if I understand your question because um the curriculum um

[28:45] selection committees Indian education staff are involved in all of that but

[28:50] parents aren't usually at every stage of that it goes through the Advisory Group but there's a a check-in but as far as

[28:58] the Indian education staff are very involved in every curricular decision and mapping all of that up but I think if you're asking Michelle is are the

[29:05] parents involved in selecting the curriculum is that what you're asking I

[29:10] guess I wanted to I guess I wanted to understand is that last sentence saying that this is

[29:18] something we're not currently doing and they're asking that we do it or is something that we currently do yes I got

[29:26] right yeah we're asking us to yes do that guess and that we don't currently

[29:33] perhaps do that provide updates to the parent committee every time new curriculum is adopted is that what that

[29:40] intention was right and it also has to do with just seeing what Native American

[29:46] components are going out to our sorry going out to our students so that parents can have a sense of what the

[29:53] teachers are being trained in in these areas right and Indian education has a big part in um what's what what is what

[30:01] goes out to the students because we get to review that section of the curriculum

[30:07] um but we don't bring that directly to our parents what our parents had wanted

[30:12] was for um access to see exactly what is going to be

[30:18] taught thank

[30:25] you uh I think this question is more for um the superintendent I know that on

[30:32] Friday uh those of us that work in education got a federal letter talking about Dei again and um I I can't let

[30:41] it's an elephant in their room and I can't uh not ask um

[30:47] so it where are we and is the American uh Indian education going to be affected

[30:55] by um all the changes what a great question and I'm really glad you mentioned that because it's so

[31:01] interesting we talk all the time about how equity and inclusion are part of what we do it's part of everything that

[31:06] we do and we've been very clear that you know we're not going to let up on that

[31:13] work we are watching closely because Indian education funding does parts of

[31:20] that do come from the federal government and we do want to keep an eye on what's going to happen with regard to that I

[31:26] think that um we're we're definitely looking to our state for extra guidance because the

[31:32] work that we're doing um quite frankly we are putting a lot more investment in

[31:38] Indian education than even Indian education funds come because we always look across the board at any of our

[31:45] stakeholders who um could use extra support we work on giving them extra support and we know that it's our job to

[31:51] keep an eye in that data and keep monitoring and our marginalized communities for all the historical

[31:57] reasons that exist are are definitely um there's a lot of need because the way

[32:04] the education system has been designed in our country and it does require a lot of focusing in on who's not being served

[32:10] well in our systems and how are we going to improve that so as for whether or not this Federal funding we've been told

[32:17] over and over like let's just watch and see how these things play out in the courts and not try to overreact too

[32:23] quickly by things that are coming out but that dear colleague letter that came out obviously raises a lot of questions

[32:30] like well what is this going to mean um the one thing that we've been very clear about with our families and our staff

[32:37] and our students is we're not going to stop caring about ensuring every one of

[32:42] our children our students adults and children alike are getting the extra supports they need are feeling welcomed

[32:49] and included that we see and value all the unique cultural contributions that

[32:54] everybody's bringing but that also we understand the history not just of our country but Minnesota History is

[33:01] incredibly rooted in Native American roots and traditions and and Wrongs

[33:08] quite frankly I mean think about all the treaty violations and all of that and it's it is part of our history and it's incredibly important that we continue to

[33:14] focus on those areas how this is going to play out in terms of federal funding

[33:19] and things like that I think it's going to remain to be seen but I will say this I'm very confident that whatever you

[33:27] know know um whatever things roll down round heill at us we are an amazing team that's going to stay focused on this um

[33:35] we've got such a strong collaboration with our parents our Indian education parents our staff our staff out in the

[33:42] buildings and um there's a very very strong sentiment among all of our staff

[33:48] and and our families that we're going to continue to do right by our kids and families and and stakeholders um but it

[33:55] is really really hard right now there's so many wh ifs and fears and we're

[34:01] trying so hard to keep our students feeling safe and welcomed and heard and

[34:20] right now so we're especially grateful when people are dedicating of their time and energy especially when you know

[34:27] we're so polarized as a community so we're grateful to you and other parents on this community and students we need

[34:33] your voices in all of this too so so

[35:58] and for the benefit of pupils thereof therefore the the Director of Finance recommends the following resolution be

[37:43] biggest contribution I've seen ever um um from the Minnesota Vikings how did we

[37:49] ask them for this contribution or how did that happen um well I'm happy to respond to

[38:01] your question um both activities directors both at Tartan and and North High School have been working uh to look

[38:07] for opportunities for more students so uh it's a growing Sport and it's an a club sport it's not a Minnesota State

[38:13] High School League official sanction sport it's a club sport um but the NFL and the Vikings and NFL teams around the

[38:20] country have been promoting flag football for girls and so we are starting flag football programs for our girls teams um one of the NE things

[38:27] about the program is it's really built in concert with kids that are participating in Traditional High School

[38:33] league sports so you can be on the track team and still play flag football so they're building the practice schedule

[38:40] the game schedule so that students can still prioritize playing on the softball team and then also play flag football so

[38:46] it's a great opportunity thank

[39:08] our approval of the 2425 budget revisions so um as

[39:15] presented um the Director of Finance recommends um the following resolution be approved uh be it resolved by the

[40:42] next up we have board Communications um yes just a couple things tonight uh thank you for a great

[40:50] board retreat that we had a couple weeks ago it was really fun to be in a different four walls um we actually had

[40:57] beautiful windows with the falling snow that day so thank you for all the effort that went in by the individuals who

[41:06] organized that for us also just want to share great appreciation for all the

[41:11] conversations that are happening around um the puzzle that is the budgeting

[41:16] that's being done right now so thank you for the conversations long hours

[41:22] repeated conversations um I think it's really important that our staff and community

[41:28] members really understand the work that goes behind it um that it it's not taken

[41:34] lightly um just want to give a shout out to the Eagle Point second grade team my

[41:42] son got to go to the capital a couple weeks ago and I don't think I've ever met a second grader more excited about

[41:50] going to the capital and so what a great experience in such an interesting time

[41:57] in our nation and state so that was really cool for him he really wants to go back in the summer to see the golden

[42:04] horses so um I had the opportunity to guest speak to a scout pack a couple

[42:10] weeks ago and that was really fun they had really tough questions like data

[42:17] type questions so they were like how many votes did you have and I was like and ironically I actually have a

[42:24] screenshot of it so like I pulled out my phone and the Scout leader looked at me he's like you seriously have that I'm

[42:30] like I do so that was really exciting um someone said um a student said they

[42:37] wanted bigger libraries they love the libraries and then I was at e point so somebody was like but look at that

[42:44] Library it's really big um so that was really uh exciting and I hope us as a

[42:50] board get more opportunities to do stuff like that with our students because I think that oneon-one

[42:57] was really exciting for them um and then we survived e-learning today so um it

[43:04] was funny I had to explain the concept Cameron was like but I'm not at school so I don't have to do this and I'm like

[43:11] I get that so we made a nice little schedule and he had a checklist and so he got through all of his stuff so again

[43:18] and our teacher emailed out different links for ideas so appreciate the work that staff did to help our students get

[43:25] through e-learning nice

[43:30] um so the board retreat was um uh successful and I we all attended

[43:39] and it's open to the public by the way people can attend board Retreats if they care to I'm I'm just grateful to um uh

[43:47] board members uh we uh get along really well which is uh uh msba the Minnesota

[43:54] School Board Association says that's the most important thing we have as as a school board is our relationship with

[44:01] each other and um so you know we we follow along different uh paths you know

[44:09] relative to our backgrounds and our beliefs and so on but we but we are all devoted to um to our district and our

[44:17] students and that comes out as we discuss these these important uh issues

[44:22] that uh are are uh facing our district um um so uh and let's see I was going to

[44:32] say one other thing oh uh so uh our board mascot my husband

[44:38] Tim um Turned 79 on uh February uh 16th

[44:45] so um he uh and he shares that day with uh one of our grandkids so they both had

[44:52] they both turned uh one turned 10 and one turned 79 so yeah but it was a it

[44:57] was a good it was a good day so is Tim appreciating that you're telling the world that he's I don't know I don't

[45:03] know I don't know if he is or not yeah yeah so uh that's it thank

[45:14] you um I don't have I I'm I I also um appreciated uh What uh our Retreat and

[45:22] it was nice to have uh the cabinet members there too and uh the plan

[45:29] activities were fun so it was overall it was a very productive meeting and also

[45:35] fun yeah cuz school board members can have fun sometimes too um I uh yeah I

[45:45] haven't this whole Federal thing has been on my mind and I you know I've been

[45:51] reading up keeping up with title six of uh the Civil Right acts of 1964 which is

[45:58] what's being used uh for this whole thing and and so I just I I've been just reading up on

[46:05] implications for both k12 and higher education where my day job is and and

[46:11] and uh that's what that's what uh that's where my mind

[46:21] is uh I also want to thank everyone for a good board retreat and just in general being so welcoming um I I want have to

[46:27] say that one of the games we played was would you rather and the question was would you rather um never play or always

[46:33] lose and my uh my adult women's hockey team was on quite the losing streak so I might need to change my

[46:39] answer uh it's growth mindset all as well um I also wanted to thank all the directors in the cabinet I've been

[46:46] having meetings trying to get to know the district a little bit more um and everyone's been really gracious with their time and uh just there's so much

[46:52] wonderful work being done and it's just so so great to see and and I'll be a part of it um I also have to give an

[46:58] extra shout out to uh Community Ed um my son is finally going to start some

[47:03] organized Sports tomorrow he starts some floor hockey and uh goes from that into

[47:08] into soccer into baseball so it's really going to check it out and so it's great to have those opportunities and kind of

[47:13] like the short four-week bursts um will be great um and then uh happen to see k

[47:19] at Hades town on Sunday and I got my tickets through Community Ed um which

[47:24] was also an amazing offering I did not expect but it was wonderful thank you

[47:30] all yes we uh happen to sit in the same area and I did not get mine through Community ad and we compared ticket

[47:37] prices and I was very upset so so yeah um I was invited to the

[47:46] community ed um advisory Council um meeting and so just went to go talk to them just about what we do on school

[47:52] board um some of the council members were just asking questions about their own

[47:57] um if they want to run you know for the one-year term that's coming up here so um so that was it was fun to get to know

[48:03] them and talk to them um I also want to thank everybody for the board retrieve it was really it was a lot of fun it was

[48:09] informative um our our cabinet came on a Saturday a snowy Saturday so uh thank

[48:15] you for that um and then I also wanted to you know I I want to thank all our staff and uh teachers uh all the time

[48:23] but a special call out for our Middle School staff so my son's in eth grade um

[48:28] and uh John Glenn has a math Carnival um and when he was in sixth grade he was

[48:33] very excited about it like I had to go and sit in the cafeteria and he spent the entire time there and then his

[48:40] excitements waned over the years so this past uh it it was a few weeks ago and I

[48:45] asked him if he wanted me to take him he said that he was well and told to be there as a advanced math student he was

[48:52] running one of the games and so so he showed up to to do the game and then left and uh so that's why my my props to

[49:01] the Middle School teachers because um they have to deal with the up and up and down of the excitement of these uh of

[49:09] the students so um so that was a good time can I add one thing before Caleb

[49:14] Gets a chance um I just relative to Middle School our our

[49:21] board mascot my husband Tim um got a got a card from one of our Middle School

[49:26] brand kids and it was filled with words we didn't understand Middle School words

[49:33] they make them up I didn't know what this meant you

[49:39] know the only word that I kind of recognized was the word Riz which apparently stands for Charisma right but

[49:47] but it's amazing this is this a trend now is this a trend you the word skib

[49:52] skibbidy was the dear skibbidy Grandpa yeah

[49:57] yeah was was sus in there I yes that was in there that fit I'm just blown away by

[50:05] this so anyway grandchildren you know bring you bring you up to date um and then I will um be missing the March 4th

[50:12] board uh work study session I'm I'm going on a girl trip with my fifth grade

[50:19] girlfriends so I just this is just a to point out that the uh friendship you

[50:24] make um sometimes last your whole life so Kayla would you like we're doing for

[50:33] communication thank you um well I I had uh I have one car today so um I am just

[50:40] getting here um but uh I uh also um had

[50:45] a really good time at the board retreat um I am really appreciative to our staff uh for doing a lot of hard

[50:52] work getting that ready and facilitating that um and uh I I I have been hearing

[51:00] skibbidy a lot at home lately I have no idea what it means but I know that if if

[51:06] I ever do start to use uh some of those newer words um it's the easiest way to

[51:12] embarrass my kids because when I start using it oh um but yeah that's that's

[51:17] all for tonight I just want to say my high school kid told me that the minute it

[51:23] gets to middle school then it's no longer cool so just just
