you are likely already aware that the city is working with multiple State agencies to construct a permanent Water Treatment Plant to address past in the city's drinking water to treat the entire water supply we need to connect existing City Wells which are spread across the community to the new water treatment plant this requires approximately 17 miles of new water main pipe to be installed through existing roadway corridors over the next 3 years in November 2024 the city broke ground on the trie plant which will be constructed east of Radio Drive and south of Hargus Parkway it is the largest public infrastructure project in the city's history and is expected to be operational in 2028 throughout 2025 in addition to the water treatment plant construction activities several miles of water pipeline will be installed in locations across the community the volume of construction work throughout the community will be unprecedented and is anticipated to occur on Radio Drive Valley Creek Road Bailey Road Cottage Grove Drive Settlers Ridge Parkway inter locken Parkway and Pioneer Drive this construction will be disruptive and impactful at times while these improvements are vital to our community they will result in some roadway Ando lane closures travel delays and temporary closures of trails some of you may have already noticed an increase in large truck traffic in some areas of the community significant construction traffic will continue throughout the community over the next three years of constru construction significant roadway infrastructure will be reconstructed following the installation of the water pipelines this work includes replacing several roundabouts along the Pioneer Drive Corridor including the intersection at Lake Road while it is certainly unfortunate that some newer roadways will be impacted the alignment for the water pipes was not determined prior to the Lake Road improvements at the intersection in 2022 after an evaluation of many roadway corridors that were vetted by City staff and consultants for months it was determined that the Pioneer Drive roadway Corridor was the best pipeline alignment to deliver the project and minimize overall Community impacts one advantage of this alignment is that it provides an opportunity to implement the planned reconstruction of Pioneer Drive between Lake Road and Bailey Road which is in poor condition we encourage you to learn more about these projects at an open house on Wednesday March 19th from 5: until 7:00 p.m. at City Hall come ask questions and learn more about construction impacts and anticipated timelines if you are unable to attend the open house and would like to learn more contact the water treatment plant project information line the total cost of the water treatment plant and Associated pipelines is estimated to be around $330 million approximately $300 million of these costs will be covered by the state settlement agreement with 3m staff continues to seek outside funding to support the city funded portion of the project and anticipates at least approximately $3.4 million in federal funding as we construct the permanent water treatment plant a temporary treatment facility is treating water from six impacted Wells an additional temporary treatment is now operational at three other well sites in addition two new Water Production Wells were added to the city's water system in 2023 and 2024 you can stay informed about roadway and Trail impacts throughout construction by signing up for email updates at Woodbury mn.gov InTouch more information about this project can be found at Woodbury mn.gov water treatment residents who have questions about their private water supply well and whether it is impacted by pasas should contact the Minnesota Department of Health thank you for your continued engagement as we work together to strengthen our City's infrastructure and secure a resilient sustainable water supply for generations to come we appreciate your patience understanding and support
